Thanks to Icefeather's silence, no other prey is disturbed. In fact, this gives a bonus to her Pounce check, bringing the target number down to 2! "Nice catch! Personally, fish is the best prey ever," Stonebelly purrs. RiverClan bias, of course. Listen is based in spirit. However, if you want to use a see or smell check, Flarefur sees a mouse! It has a Pounce target of 3. (I think I was half-asleep when I replied, so that may be why I got intelligence and spirit confused. ^-^")

Fennelnose turned up his nose at the fish (at partly at the RiverClan warriors). "Well, I can't imagine how you can stomach something that reeks like crowfoot," he growled. Such animosity.

Icefeather was glad when the mouse didn't notice. She felt confident as she pounced with a Pounce check of 3, accurately landing on the mouse. She bit with a Bite check of 2 (is that enough for a mouse?)

Either way, Flarefur sees a mouse, Pounce target of 3.
Icefeather easily kills the mouse with a swift bite. One more mouse for the fresh-kill pile!
"Yeah! I guess mice survive by being too furry to eat," Stonebelly joked with a purr.
Something was nearby... a See check of 3 would cause it to be noticed, but a 4 would reveal it completely.

Icefeather stood up with satisfaction, a mouse dangling from her jaws. She swept her gaze to check out how everyone else was doing; she wasn't looking intently and so didn't spend any chips. (Her See check is 3, Int: 3). Suddenly, her fur stood on end. Something was nearby; she couldn't see it completely though. She wanted to alert the others, but what if she was wrong? She decided to wait to see if anyone else spotted it.

Stonebelly was certainly the least observant cat of the bunch. Not even noticing Icefeather's distress, she looked down into the water to see if any fish were nearby.

Would Int-2 + See-0 = 2 be enough for Leafheart to notice anything?

Sadly, Leafheart is as oblivious as Stonebelly. Hopefully someone makes the check target soon...

With a see check of 3, Fennelnose recognised Icefeather's tense expression. He raised his hackles and glanced around the area. What was troubling this warrior...?

Fennelnose and Icefeather notice something moving in the tall grass. A Ponder Check of 4 would reveal its identity, but only for the cats that noticed it.

Flarefur eyed the mouse, ready to pounce. (intel. 2 + pounce 0 = 2, I spend one intel. chip, making it 3.)

The pounce is made! To move the event along, it is killed easily.
In the grass, Fennelnose picks up a few signs- a flash of red fur, sharp brown eyes, swift paws... it's definitely a fox! It's rather young- apprentice age, if one had to guess- and seems to be eyeing the fresh-kill greedily.

"Fox!" Fennelnose growled, a short attempt to get the other cats' attentions off their prey. Though the fox was young, and he'd like to impress these other cats by taking it on, he knew better than to rush forwards and get himself beat up. Fennelnose lashed his tail once, arched his back, fluffed up his fur, and hissed at this intruding canine.
( arch check: str 2, arch 0, check of 2 ;; hiss check: spr 3, hiss 0, check of 3. How intimidating in the little fluffernutter? )

Fennelnose's hiss isn't too threatening, but because you made the GM laugh, the fox seems wary. It shifts its weight from paw to paw. Stonebelly takes this opportunity to strike.
(TUTORIAL: ATTACKING
In a fight, you can take 3 actions:
Bite- only used in life or death situations. Based on strength, it deals one extra chip of damage if it succeeds.
Swat- A basic swipe. Based on intelligence, it is the most basic attack.
Pounce/Wrestle- Based on intelligence and strength, respectively. Once you land a pounce, wrestling begins. Each round, the wrestlers make a Wrestle Check, and the higher total lets that cat do damage.
To hit, get equal to or higher than the opponent's Jump check.)
Stonebelly snaps at the fox. ( str 3). (Fox Jump: 4) The fox yelps in surprise and jumps back.

[ one question before I let the others take their turns: I know I spent one intelligence chip earlier... Do I do Swat checks from this point on using the score on Fennel's character sheet, or the amount of chips I have left? He has 2 int chips atm, so would the int score during checks be int 3 or int 2? ('w') also, I'm glad I gave you a chuckle~ ]

(TUTORIAL: SPENDING CHIPS 2
Note that spending chips does not decrease base score; you just can't spend as many. Think of chips as your energy, and your base stats as your... well... stats.
Also, be careful: chips also function as HEALTH. If chips are LOST in combat, not only are your options more limited, but if you spent too many chips before, your cat could be KOed)

Sorry the noob has a quick question to ask Leafheart didn't notice the fox before, does that effect her attack at all? Is her Swat attack(Spirit-3 + Swat 1 = 4) okay?

Post by tinybreeze on Oct 6, 2016 17:55:43 GMT -5
(Leafy's fine, she can still attack. Swat's based on intelligence btw)
A Jump of 4 still didn't save the fox. It yelped in pain as claws raked its face.
(TUTORIAL: DAMAGE
In combat, the amount of damage you do is based on strength. Both parties make a strength check, but only the attacker can send chips. Damage calculation is as follows:
Attacker strength is less or equal to defender- 1 chip
Attacker strength is greater- 2 chips
Attacker strength is double defender- 3 chips
Bite or certain Knacks increase chip damage. Also, chips lost through damage are LOST. Unlike spending chips, lost chips aren't refreshed. Also, since chips double as both check enhancers and health, spend wisely!
Fox strength: 4)

Okay! And sorry, in my notes I had Swat under the spirit category. I fixed it now though so it won't happen again. Here is Leafheart's Swat: Int-2 + Swat-1 = 3
Also about the certain knacks, Leafheart has Mighty Swat as one of her knacks. Will that do anything extra when she attacks? And I'm really sorry for asking so many questions, but how many chips does my cat have left?

Fennelnose leapt into the fray, striking out with his left paw.

The fox's scratch isn't too serious- only 1 chip of damage- but the strike makes it wary. Fennelnose slashes the fox's red-furred side. (Fox strength: 4)
Unfortunately, Leafheart misses due to the fox's Jump check of 4. Even under attack, the canine is still rather swift.
(Leafheart has spent no chips, so she is at full chip value. As for the Mighty Swat...
TUTORIAL: KNACKS
Knacks are different from Skills. While skills are passive effects, Knacks are abilities- you must activate them to use them, by paying the cost.
For example, if Leafheart wants to use Mighty Swat, she will spend 2 strength chips to activate it- BEFORE she takes the action of making the check. Therefore, if she hits after activating Mighty Swat, she will do one extra chip of damage. However, this knack is only useful if the swat actually hits. Otherwise, chips are wasted.
Also note that chip costs decrease as you upgrade Knacks, although many Knacks can only be upgraded once or twice.)
