"But you do realize that there was never a choice, right?" Anya asked. "She was going to make you, no matter what."

Parker's gaze turned skyward as the ceiling seemed to split apart, showcasing the millions of stars that shone overhead. "Sol," He breathed. At a complete lost for words.
Winter didn't want to get out of his room. Didn't want to go interact with these people. Yet his stomach rumbled with hunger since he had skipped most of the meals yesterday, and that was the only thing that made him get up. Rising, he walked to the door and opened it, bracing himself for whatever conversation came next. Luckily, the girl wasn't waiting on him in the hall and he was able to walk down to the kitchen in peace.

"Exactly," Anya said. "If you weren't here, I would still be in the House, under Genevieve's thumb. I would have forced into the same line of work as all the others, and if I didn't meet up to her standards, I would have been killed too. Or my family would have a constant death threat hanging over their heads. And that's if Jan even bothered to travel through Ashborne with Corrik's egg in the first place. If you weren't there, who knows how his choices would have been affected. So there could have been a chance I would still be stuck in Ashborne, the same girl too scared to go out alone without a brother by her side, too timid and weak to stand up for herself. Possibly forced into a relationship that I knew I wasn't happy in, but to concerned about hurting anyone's feelings to get out of it."
Very gently, Anya freed one of her hands so she could lift it to hold his cheek. "There was no right or wrong choice that night Seth," she murmured. "They were all the same. No matter the path you picked, there would be ripples and effects that stretch far beyond that city's reach, into the lives of countless people you may or may not have known. And I, for one am glad for the choice you made. Because now you are here, and you can take the steps to avenge all the lives you were forced to take. You can make right the wrongs in the best way that you know how. You shouldn't try and forget that night, but you shouldn't be afraid of it either. Take it and learn. Take the memory of that man and use him as a goal for yourself. He's the one you couldn't save, so now you can make sure that doesn't happen again. I think Malcolm would approve of that choice."

"Gods, it's so amazing," Parker breathed. "How is this even possible?"

The tears were all the proof Anya needed to know that she finally broke through, that her words finally reached into the darkest corners of Seth's mind he had been keeping her, and many others, from seeing for a long time. She spoke no more. This was hard enough for him to overcome, and healing always worked best with baby steps. So she pulled him forward, arms encompassing him, and let him cry the tears he had denied himself to shed.

"What I wouldn't give to have this back home," Parker murmured, reaching out and carefully, barely, touching one of the many model stars. "I would sell my soul to be able to see this whenever I wanted."

Anya tilted her head back to place a kiss on his forehead, his nose, then his lips, smiling all the while. "And I'll throat punch anyone that tried to think otherwise," She said, not being able to stop herself from giggling. She said it more as an attempt to get him to laugh, or just smile, even though she did mean those words. She might not be one to jump to violence, but her limit of listening to people tell her this relationship was a bad one had well been reached.
