(Sorry if it's short or has a ton of typos I'm on a tablet.
Also I love Hamilton too just noticed your status)
Was it morning already? It had already become hard to tell, perhaps because it was getting towards winter and the nights were longer and the days were grey. But evidently, it was, considering he was being wished good morning.
As Hal stood and approached the front of the cell, he couldn't help but think it was rather comforting to see someone close to his age here - the dark-haired girl serving his breakfast couldn't be more than a few years younger than him, perhaps not even that. He hadn't seen many close to his age in a while. Young soldiers were harder and harder to come by.
He picked up the food that had been slid below the door of the cell, his blue eyes meeting the brown eyes of the young Scottish girl as he did so.
"Thank you, miss" Hal responded, deciding for the moment to respond to politeness with politeness. After all, she hadn't done anything to him. By the looks of things, she was just an honest young woman, trying to do her job. She didn't seem to harbour any hatred from him. So he was going to do the same for her.
Hal hadn't been captured as long as a lot of the others, and so he had yet to become bitter and thin like many of the others had. Maybe that would come with time. Not that he wanted jt to, of course.
The wound that had led to his capture was healed now and hidden below the tunic, just a scar. He'd been captured a while ago but had been in medical care as they tried to heal him. The Scottish hated the English, yes, but they weren't about to let a young and fit soldier die a preventable death because of a failure to treat wounds. But it wasn't the only scar he had, and there was one on his cheekbone. It was small but it was silvery and it caught the light.

(No worries. I will have many typos as well, and the length of my replies will vary too, depending on the situation our characters are in. Hamilton is the best! I've only been appreciating it for a month now, but it's amazing.)
The faint trace of the scar on his cheek didn't go unnoticed. As Cora studied the young man in front of her, it was one of the first things that stood out to her. That, and his blue eyes. Compared the others here, he certainly was the most attractive face, and more appealing to converse with.
"You're quiet young to be a prisoner of war," she commented, trying to make light conversation. The girl knew she couldn't chat long, but she always liked to try and get on the good side of the men here. That way she wouldn't have any extra trouble in the future. "That is, if you don't mind me saying. It's just that it's not often to see fresh faces brought in. Then again, I guess that's a good thing."

(No problem x and yah it's the best I listen to it non-stop {yes that was intended hehe} x Do you gave a favourite song?)
"Uh, yeah" Hal replied either a slight smile, caught off guard by the sudden observation "Yeah, I'm twenty-two. I haven't been in the army long, I mean..."
It was a little awkward, but in a good way. He didn't mind the slight awkwardness because this girl seemed nice and so Hal knew the awkwardness wouldn't last long. It never did if someone was actually nice.
Hal liked people generally, but maybe into was just the situation that had him tongue-tied at first. After all, it wasn't every day this sort of thing happened. He could tell now, however, that he was already gaining confidence.
"I'm sorry, I'm Hal" Henry replied as he remembered to introduce himself.

(It's so hard to choose! I love "Aaron Burr, Sir", "Satisfied", and "Burn" the most though. How about you?)
"You must have incredible luck," Cora commented, returning the small smile. She had several years of experience with the talking with the older soldiers, so the prospect of speaking with them didn't phase her. Of course, if any of the guards were to find her chatting with them so easily, she could very well be punished, but it was a risk that she took anyway. It was better to make friends than enemies, something which Scotland had plenty of at the moment.
"I'm sorry you didn't get much of a chance to enjoy your time in the army before being brought here. This isn't exactly the most glorious of places." The young girl glanced around the room as if to prove the lack of view the cells had. There was also a slight chill that never seemed to disappear, even in the summer months. Combine the chill and the dim lighting, it wasn't a place a person would stay for long willingly. Her gaze came back to meet his as he introduced himself. "I'm Cora," she returned. "and I'm afraid I have to return to my duties. When you're done eating, just push the plates back under the door, and I will collect them when I return with dinner."

"Uh, yeah, my luck isn't great" Hal chuckled, looking at the woman "But I mean it could be worse."
He wasn't wrong - men younger than he were dead right now because of this war, which Hal firmly believed was pointless. But he fought in it anyway because he was a soldier and orders were orders and allegiance was allegiance.
"It was a pleasure to meet you, Cora." Hal responded "I look forward to seeing you again. Though if I'm honest it's partly because I can use your visits to judge the time."
He stepped back from the bars a little, suspecting that Cora was probably going to be leaving any moment, and he didn't want to get in the way.

(Haha, I love King George. XD I sing all of his songs whenever me and my sister listen to Hamilton. We have our assigned parts that we sing along to, or try to sing along to, lol. I'm trying my bet to learn all of Lafayette's lyrics.)
Cora gave a sad smile. She could only imagine the toll it took on the mind how spending weeks in the same cell with no connection to the outside world. Some men resided into themselves, never speaking to anyone as they awaited their deaths. Others lashed out in anger, their violence only increasing. It would be a shame to see that happen to the man before her who seemed too nice to be locked away so young. And she would be lying if his words didn't bring a light shade of pink to her cheeks that the dim lighting hide. As a servant, she was use to being over looked and looked down on, even if she was of a fair complexion. Yet, at the same time, she knew not to let his polite words go to her head.
"Then I will be sure to inform you of the exact time when I visit," she promised. If that was the only comfort she could give him, then she would be sure to make a habit of checking the time as she left the kitchen. She bowed her head slightly to him before stepping away from his cell and continuing with her work. Had she stayed a moment longer, she might have been shouted at by the prisoner who haven't received their food. Best to keep them content.

"Don't worry about any problems for me," Alec insisted. He laughed without humor and leaned his head back against the old boards of the fort. "Yeah, jobs... Sure, I'll get right on that. Do you know where they're taking applications to be a millionaire?" he asked, glancing down at her. "I'd rock that job, I think." He groaned, thinking about a whole new set of problems: what kind of job did he want? "Man, I really don't have any alternatives. I don't even have any like, big life-fulfilling dreams or goals or anything. No talents, no grand ideas, no daydreams..." He trailed off. "Sorry. Not the time. My bad. Look, about your mom." He turned so he could face her and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees. He grimaced, as if in pain. "I hate to say this, sweetheart, just...I don't think she's ever going to be happy. For whatever reason, you aren't the daughter she pictured when she was pregnant with you or whatever, and when that dream broke, so did some part of her, and...I don't know if it's ever going to get fixed to where she can see you're better than whatever she had pictured lo these many moons ago." He stopped to actually take a breath. "I don't want to be the jerk who tells anybody to give up on their family, but I also don't want to turn a blind eye and hope everything will be okay while she, like, ruins you psychologically."

You're a great artist, and a pretty good actor, Tori pointed out when he said he had no talents. He had plenty of talents he could use to get a job, and she had confidence that he would find one in no time.
At the mention of her mother, Tori hesitantly meet his gaze. There was a part of her that wanted to defend her mother, to say that it's just her busy schedule that kept her from having the free time to get to know her. However, she hated how her mother's job always gave before her. So her argument crumbled before she even stated it. For a moment, she just sat there mulling over his words. Was possibly she was already ruined psychologically, and she just wasn't aware? Perhaps she was. It wouldn't be a surprise to her.
But what about my dad? she signed. He's putting in more effort to understand me. He's always been there more than Mom. I can't just punish him while his making up for the time he's lost. He's even starting to understand more complex signs. I know I'm never going to be the daughter they wanted or hoped for, but he's at least trying. How can I forget my mother and not my father?

Alec chewed on his lip for a second. "I don't know. But that's a valid point. I think I like your dad pretty well actually." He sighed and rubbed his eyes. "I don't know." What he didn't want to do was drop her off back at her house, where her mom would be waiting, angrier than ever since they had literally walked out on her. But there didn't seem to be a reasonable alternative. He voiced these concerns to her, almost apologetically. "Unless, like, do you want me to try to stay with you? To intermediate? ...I guess it doesn't sound as good as it did in my head," he said, wrinkling his nose.

My parents can deal. They're big kids now, Alec signed back. And so are we. Legal adults. We can do whatever we want. We can stay at your place, or mine, or a hotel room, or a stinking park bench. Maybe we can go talk to Mama and Papa Jones, see if they can talk some sense into your mom, then you can go home? It's not the best plan, but it's all I've got, sweetheart. He shrugged, then impulsively and ridiculously added, You know I'd find a way to give you the moon if you asked for it, right?

As Hal watched her go, he seated himself again with his food, looking down at it. Not bad. It was plain, and meagre, but it was enough. He'd get thin but nothing worse than that.
And as he ate, and waited for something to change out in that corridor, he couldn't stop thinking about Cora. She was a little bit of happiness in a place where the sadness and fear and bitterness seemed palpable. She was so nice, and she just might be the thing that stopped Hal from completely losing his mind in this place. He didn't want to become like the others, either silent or violent and angry. He wouldn't be able to bear it if this experience changed him. He was young - he was far too resilient for that.

(Good night!) Tori smiled slightly as he added the last sentence. She had been waiting for the sweet, and slightly corny line he always gave. It helped cheer her up. I know you would, and I would never ask you to go through that much trouble, she signed. Maybe we can see if your parents can talk some sense into my mom. She just may not like listening to you.
( Drizzletail You can choose more than one if you want. ^^ )
(Would you like me to rp another prisoner so they can talk, or would you rather just time skip?) Cora finished dividing out the food, receiving a few thanks and grunts in return. It didn't bother her though. Her job was to simply bring them food and collect the plates when they were done. Then she would go back to tending to the chores of the castle they were at. It wasn't a fancy castle, but one that was built specifically for defending against raids. It wasn't the nicest of scenery either. However, she couldn't complain too much. It was a generally a safe place to be, for those who weren't prisoners that is. Her gaze flickered over to the cell Hal was occupying for a brief second as she walked back to the door to leave. She felt bad there there was nothing more she could do for the young soldier. Maybe she could sneak in some fruit at dinner. Anything to make the meager meals better.

(I honestly don't mind. I don't want to make you make a new character either if you don't want to x)
Hal watched Cora leave as he began on his meal. It was so little food it didn't take long for him to have finished it, though he wasn't paying that much attention to the food to be honest.
He was thinking, which probably wasn't a great thing for him to be doing it his situation. He'd only frighten himself unnecessarily, after all. There was no point in freaking himself out, anyway. But he was thinking nonetheless, because he wanted to know what was going to happen to him. Anyone would want to know

"Yeah. Sometimes I wish you would, though," Alec mumbled under his breath. He did stuff for her all the time, but it was true that she hardly ever explicitly asked him for anything. Not that he wanted a super demanding girlfriend or angthing, but it might be gratifying to know he had accomplished something she actually consciously wanted, had lived up to expectations or whatever. Or maybe it was just a desire to know she was comfortable enough with him and their relationship to know without knowing that he really would do anything to make her happy, whether it was buying her flowers or handing her the silly moon.
But he was overthinking.
"Maybe. I don't get why she doesn't like me though. Unless..." He trailed off as his eyes lit up in mischief. "Unless she's totally jealous of you for having a monopoly on my affections. Ooh, maybe she really does realize all my inherent awesomeness and resents you for hogging it all," he teased, scooting backwards toward the ladder and climbing out. "I do believe we've solved the puzzle, Watson!" he joked.

(I'll make him anyway. If we need him, we'll have him, and if we don't, then we won't use him. XD)
"So you said your name was Hal?" A voice called from the cell directly opposite of Hal's. The occupant inside was a man well into his fifties, his greasy, matted black hair beginning to gray desperately needed a cut and wash. The man's face was thin, a result of the poor diet the prisoners had, and light hazel eyes peered through the dimness to try and study what little he could of the young man.
"Can't say I know too many people by that name. Where are from? Or really, where is it you wished you never left?" A soft laugh echoed off the stone walls, a sign to let the young man know he meant nothing but idle chat by his questions.
Tori laughed at his line of reasoning. Leave it to him to find the most out there explanation and treat it as the actual truth. You realize how weird that sounds, right, Sherlock? she asked as she followed him towards the ladder. If that was the case, she would have more to worry about than convincing her mother to learn sign language.
As they climbed down the ladder, she mulled over his previous statement. Now that she thought about it, she never really did ask him to anything big for her, other than helping with homework. And giving her cuddles. She asked him for a lot of cuddles over the past few months. Yet, to be honest, she really couldn't think of anything that she absolutely wanted him to do for her. Well, there was one thing...
Alec, Tori signed once they were out of the tree house, are you willing to sneak out to go to the concert with me and risk both our parents' wrath?
(Which four are you interested in?)

Hal's blue eyes turned immediately to the owner of this new voice, surprised that someone had spoken. He had never heard the silence broken before, apart from at mealtimes, and it felt almost strange. In the dim light he offered the other man a small smile.
"Yeah, my name is Henry Grantham. Hal is just a nickname. I'm from the North-East. Tyne and Wear area. And yeah, I am kind of wishing I hadn't left. What about you?"
He was happy to be able to speak to someone else. Cora had given him that before, but it was nice to be able to talk to more people. He wouldn't be seeing Cora all the often.

(No worries XD all I'll say is that King's Lynn is MUCH further south than Tyne and Wear XD Opposite end of the country haha. If that gives you any geographical bearing at all I hope it helps)
"Nice to meet you, Charles. And don't worry, you weren't rambling. And I mean, yeah, I'm a little young, but when you join up you have to accept that they can do anything they want with you, basically. I knew when I joined I might end up in the war quite quickly. So I guess I knew what I was doing, at the end of the day. Can't complain about it" Hal responded with a shrug.
It was true. He'd known this might happen when he joined up. But, I mean, you always assumed it wouldn't happen to you, and in Hal's case, it had, unfortunately for him.

Which means young soldiers like me, lacking in experience" Hal replied "Maybe this war will be over sooner than I thought"
