Mika shook his head at her suggestion. "Nooooo, Missy would have my head if I spent this on something other than getting you settled in. We can definitely get you some snacks and niceties once we have few good outfits for you to wear." He replied, smiling slightly. "Please, don't worry about any of this. We're happy to help you, and we're ready to make sure that you stay safe and well." He dipped his head a bit, starting to head to the door to his room. "Just let me know if you need anything during the night. Rest well."

There was so much in that silent speech that Alec wanted to respond to, but then she was leaning down to kiss him, and he wasn't about to interrupt that. He never would have admitted it if it had hurt, but her touch was so light he only barely felt it. The tingly sensation was a nice distraction from the throbbing, though.
The last bit made him laugh. He shook his head slightly, still chuckling, and stared at her adoringly. "You always know what to say, don't you?" He reached toward her without any real purpose, maybe to take her hand, but he still wanted to talk, so he ended up laying his hand on her knee instead. "He can mess with me as much as he wants, so long as he doesn't mess with you. I'd rather have it that way. Tori. You bear no guilt here. Okay? None. For any of it. You understand?"

They seemed to do a lot of that, didn't they? Do their best to keep the other smiling. She was so good at that. Alec did smile at her, but not widely enough o pull at the barely healing cut on his lip. "I like it when you call me your boyfriend," he told her. "And knight. But 'boyfriend' is a bit more realistic. ...What, you don't like the rugged look?" he laughed. "Ugh, my mother...yeah, she's not going to be pleased."

(Okay!)
Hope continued to walk alongside Peter, checking often to make sure that he wasn't getting tired. She was slightly surprised that he hadn't grown frustrated with her constantly asking him if he was okay to keep going, or reminding him that they could head back whenever, or even warning him that he would still have to make the trek back home. But Peter had never gotten frustrated with her. Not in the entire time that she had known him.
They had walked several blocks and were beginning to leave the housing developments and enter the stores and businesses that were near the heart of the town. It had been a while since Hope had been walking through the streets lined with stores, but she didn't think much of it. In fact, she had gotten quite good at suppressing a lot of her memories. She turned to Peter again. "Are you doing okay? We can turn around if you'd like." She offered for probably the millionth time.

Rugged is one thing, beaten to a pulp is another, Tori pointed out with a small giggle. A cut lip and a black eye is as rugged as I want you to look. Anything more and I worry. She couldn't stand to see him hurt, even the times when they were younger and he brought it upon himself. A sprang ankle or a broken arm might have been okay to joke about, but she never liked to see him in pain. I wonder if she got the principal's call by now? Do you want me to set up a barricade for you? Try and talk her out of her rage before she gets to you?
Peter didn't frustrate easily, at least when it came to people asking of his health. That he had learned during the time Hope had been staying with them. He knew she was just concerned for him, so it wasn't anything to get mad about. He was just glad he had people who cared enough to ask if he was okay. Although he continuously answered that he was fine, he was beginning to tire as the store fronts came into view. He hadn't thought he would have made it this far, to be honest. "Nah, I'm good," he said once more. "But if you want to stop anywhere, don't let me stop you." It was what he liked to think as a subtle hint that he wouldn't mind a brief break, while also letting her know he was still fine.

Hope nodded in understanding. "Why don't we stop and grab something to drink." She offered as they neared a small gas station. She turned when they reached the parking lot and they made their way slowly inside. Hope had been to this gas station many times, although hardly ever with good intentions. She tried not to think of that as she held the door open for Peter, but that task proved harder than she thought. The woman behind the counter was already looking right at her, eyes narrowed suspiciously. She only watched Hope for a moment before her eyes darted back to one of the mirrors in the corner of the store, one of the big round ones that are used to eliminate blind spots around corners. Hope's eyes followed the cashiers to the mirror and her heart skipped a beat. The mirror showed the reflection of three people, two guys and a girl.

"Did you ever think that maybe that's why boys do reckless things? So the pretty girls worry?" Thats right. Beaten and bruised and halfway ready to pass out, but I still got it. He rubbed his thumb in idle circles over her knee and groaned again. He was going to get quite good at that before the day was over. "No. I'll just--deal with it. Mostly I just want...for you to come here." He closed his eyes for a moment against the pain, wishing the Advil or whatever would take effect faster. "Maybe I'll just take a nap..."

Peter nodded at her suggestion. They could use something to drink or two for their return trip home. He muttered a thanks as she held the door open for him and glanced around the inside the gas station. There was only a few people inside, which didn't surprise him. There was hardly anyone outside getting gas, so why would there be a crowd inside? "Do you want to grab some snacks too, or wait until we get back home?" he asked, not seeing the cashier's suspicious look.
Tori playfully rolled her eyes at his comment, placing on hand over his on her knee so she could hold it. You poor things. Suffering to gain our attention, she signed a bit sarcastically. Strangely, though, she guessed it worked. She felt like babying Alec more now that he was injured than she would any other time. Would she admit that? Not really. Do you want to go up to your room then? You might be able to rest better.

"You laugh now, but it works," he chuckled. "Ugh, yes and no. It's so far away." But the idea did appeal to him. He sat up carefully, and pried the ice pack away from his face. "How do I look?" he asked jokingly. He squeezed her fingers and got to his feet, taking a second to adjust.

Alec laughed again. "Gotta love your brutal honesty, Victoria." He let her help him up the stairs and to his room, where he was only too happy to see his bed. "Ahhhh. My bed," he sighed, lowering himself onto it. "Gah." He grimaced and cushioned the ice against his face. "Don't ever get in a fight, beautiful. Gosh, does it hurt... But don't tell anybody I said that." All his anger seemed to have dissipated now, replaced first by deflation, then pain, and now fatigue. His eyes dropped heavily as he lay down. "So tired..."

Alec forced his eyes open long enough to look at her. He frowned slightly, making some odd expression that was a mix up the puppy dog eyes and a mask of pain. "Would it be too cheesy if I said I need you?"

Alec let out a long, quiet breath. He brushed his fingers over her cheek and through her hair before taking her hand and holding it over his heart. "I love you," he whispered, finally closing his eyes. He couldn't help a small smile; he still got really giddy and happy every time he told her he loved her, or she said she loved him.
The medicine should be working by the time he woke up.
If Abigail didn't get there first.

Hope hesitated a moment before replying. "Uhm, maybe just a drink for me. Do you want something to eat before we head back?" She turned to look at Peter as she tried to calm her turning stomach. She didn't realize it, but she had lowered her voice slightly in the silence of the store.

Hope followed Peter cautiously down the isle.
The trio had become aware that there were now others in the station, but they didnt mind. They were used to having an audience, even though that wasnt on their agenda this time. There were standing by the coolers of drinks, trying to decide what to get for the night that they were planning on having.
Hope didnt look their way as they joined them in the drink isle.
After a moment, there was silence from the trio as the shorter of the two males (although still fairly tall compared to Hope) noticed who had joined them. "Hope!" The female was the one to break the silence, and it wasnt until then that Hope noticed she had been holding her breath. "Where you been?" The female, Jessie, added. Hope closed her eyes and let out her breath slowly.

When Hope reopened her eyes she had put a smile on her face. She only hoped that it didn't look as fake as it was. "Hey Jessie!" Hope then turned back to Peter. "These are some of the people I- well I guess used to- hang out with." Hope chose her words carefully, unsure how the group would feel about her having been gone for so long, especially considering the terms that she had last seen them on. "This is Jessie, Alex, and Dominique." Hope introduced them to Peter, but did not offer up Peter's identity. She hoped that Peter's manners wouldn't surface into him introducing himself to the group.

Alec had fallen asleep not long after. He was still asleep when his mother got home. She marched up the stairs, stopped in the doorway, crossed her arms, and frowned harshly. And she wasn't sure how she felt about the fact that the two of them were snuggled up all together. But, poor baby, he probably was tired--the principal made it sound like he had definitely been losing that fight.
The fight he started for no good reason.
"Alexander Gabriel Jones. Get. Up."
Alec woke with a start and groaned, partly because he had been woken up, and partly because now everything was stiff, even though the medicine had taken the edge off. Nooo, I don't wanna, he thought. But Mama Jones was not to be denied. Especially when she was in "Mama Jones" mode.
He sat up slowly, trying not to wake up Tori and trying not to ruin the delicate state of only-hurting-a-little-but. "...Hi, Mom."
"I think we need to talk, you and I. And your father, when he gets home."
Alec held a finger to his lips to shush her. He grabbed the now-thawed ice pack from the pillow and moved into the hallway.
Abigail winced at the sight of his face. "Oh, my poor baby," slipped out before she could withhold it. She put her fingertips on the one spot that wasn't purple. "Ugh, it makes my gut twist."

Peter nodded in understanding. He gave a polite smile to the group, not sure how he should act around them. If Hope used to hang out with them, then that had to mean they were the kind to get into a lot of trouble. The boy wanted to be polite and introduce himself, yet that didn't feel like the best thing to do. "It's nice to meet you all," he said instead. "Shut up." The taller of the two males, Alex, crossed his arms. However, he didn't even look at Peter as he spoke. Instead, he was watching Hope with a look filled with hate and anger. Hope's bright green eyes met Alex's and her stomach lurched. "Not now Alex..." Her voice came out soft, a hint of fear was left exposed. "Then when.?" Alex took half a step forward before Dominique put a hand on his arm and gave him a look. Alex took his half step back and remained silent. Dominique then turned back to Hope. "Then you know where to meet us tomorrow." His tone was short. "Alone." He added with a pointed look at Peter. Hope nodded slowly and glanced at the other female. Jessie's eyes portrayed a sympathy for Hope, but she made no move to come to her defense. "Let's get out of here." Hope turned and spoke to Peter. Her tone had shifted slightly into one of slight frustration, although not directed at anyone but the situation. (I love this mystery because I havent even decided 100% on her backstory ![](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/EYovFCWKvybdNMI4vmTh.gif) )

Taken aback by the harsh tone of the tallest boy, Peter was stunned for a moment. What had his underwear in a twist? he thought. Whatever was the reason, he certainly didn't like the way he spoke to Hope. "Yeah, let's go," he muttered, forgetting their original plan to by drinks. Turning, he waited for Hope to walk away first so he would be between her and the others. (I like it. It'll I've Peter something to worry about. ![](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/EYovFCWKvybdNMI4vmTh.gif) )

"So. How much trouble am I in exactly?" Alec asked.
"That depends!" Abigail hissed, pulling him farther down the hallway and down the stairs. She eased up a little though when he moaned. "Imagine my surprise and horror when I get a call from the principal while I'm trying to enjoy a nice walk at the gym with my friend, and he tells me that my son, my good child, my only son, my pride and joy--"
"Laying it on a little thick, there, Mom."
She continued anyway. "--started a fight--not just got in a fight, started a fight--with some other boy. And looked in bad shape, by the way. Ooh, he was right on that point." She sat down on the sofa in the "den." Aka, the really uncomfortable and super formal living room area in the front of the house, with fancy furniture and an upright piano and fake flower bouquets.
Alec perched next to her, automatically more uncomfortable just by being in this room. She was looking at him like she was expecting him to say something, but he wasn't sure what she wanted to hear. "...Okay?"
"Okay?! Alec! You picked a fight! What got into you?" she demanded, lines appearing hi her forehead.
(Sorry there's not a lot of room for response. I'll make another post in a second, this one was just getting long.)
