Sunstar mentored Bluestar, Bluestar mentored Firestar, Firestar mentored Bramblestar, and Bramblestar mentored Berrynose.
I agree with you that Berrynose isn't mature enough.

The problem I have with the pattern is that none of the leaders were the first apprentice of their mentors. Also, Bluestar, Firestar, and Bramblestar were all part of prophecies.
Anyways, regarding Berrynose, he hasn't had an apprentice yet... so Bramblestar probably doesn't see him as mature enough either...

Ivypool kind of falls under the pattern.
Firestar mentored Cloudtail Cloudtail mentored Cinderheart Cinderheart mentored Ivypool
Not exactly, but still.

Personally, I think the pattern is due to both coincidence and biasm on the leader's part.
I hope Ivypool succeeds Bramblestar. She deserves it.

I like the idea of Ivystar, and maybe Berrynose or Blossomfall as her deputy.

I don't even count that scene in BrS as proof of increasing maturity. He's Rosepetal's brother.
Plus, he's still referred to in conversation as a model of bossiness/arrogance. Even Sparkpaw said so in TAQ.

I agree, he's too hot-headed and quick to act without thinking. I always think back to the time Sol revisited ThunderClan and how easily Berrynose was swept up by his words and so called actions in saving his kits despite seeing what kind of cat Sol was before when he first appeared to the clans. He just doesn't seem all that bright. I don't see any leadership qualities in him at all unfortunately.

Besides other than that, Berrystar just sounds stupid as hell, sounds like a name for a kittypet.

I think it's possibly hinted, since Berrynose just happens to shape up a tiny bit right when Squirrelflight is bound to retire soon. If he was just meant to stay a random background character, why change? It's pretty common for the Erins to not bother developing characters that aren't meant for anything in the future. In fact, they rarely show up at all if they aren't meant for anything in the future. So I do think, even if it's not super significant, that it's worth to notice Berrynose actually being on screen while several other background characters have stayed the same or faded away.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a Berrystar fan, I don't think he'd be leader 100%, but I do think it's possible. Just as Ivypool and several other warriors are possible.
I honestly think it's going to be Twigpaw. Based on how fast the books are moving- 3 months in the first book and another 6 months in the second book, heck, Twigkit could be a senior warrior by the time this series ends XD and if she's the prophecy cat, then that would increase her chances a lot since all the leaders in the past have been prophecy cats. As much as the background characters would be interesting, I seriously doubt the Erins would break their habit. But who knows, anything could happen.

It's not technically a pattern that they set, I think it might just be a coincidence. Like, obviously, the future leader is favored. But I don't think that Berrynose is going to become Berrystar. It's 'cause he doesn't have a good leader characteristic. He might end up like Onestar. Also, just remember that Bramblestar is on his first life. There's plenty of time for him to take on another apprentice. But let's get down to the real question. What's going to happen to Squirrelflight?

Hey, welcome to the forums, but in the future please don’t necropost (posting on a thread that is over a month old). Thanks!
