I would have said bristlefrost before thunder, but that book did almost nothing wrong with sunbeams character.

I like Bristlefrost more in so far as she feels like she's more consistent. Sunbeam swings between straight man and drama queen a little too much.

Both are flat pieces of cardboard with nothing to them and with honestly the same exact story arc. Probably Sunbeam though since she's more independent than Bristlefrost is.

THIS WAS SUCH A HARD CHOICE. I picked Bristlefrost since I agree that she has more consistent writing, TBC is more sentimental to me, plus she has the most epic death scene. But she also was a strong character in her own right and seeing her leadership skills where she brought together cats from the Dark Forest, StarClan and the living to battle Ashfur was a highlight of ALITM... I think her arc has a lot to do with the idea of "having a future"... She has an idealized dream of a future with Stemleaf that she believes is assured, and then she has that shattered. Then with Rootspring, she's torn between pursuing love and protecting her clan, but believes that if she just makes it to the other side of the conflict they'll have a future together... That she chooses to put that aside to save everyone by killing Ashfur, thus sacrificing her own future and happiness to secure everyone else's (including Shadowsight, who has never known a life without Ashfur, she's giving him that chance to heal from his abuse... :,) God I wish they interacted more in the books, they have so many interesting parallels especially with how the previous arc had ended with Shadowkit nearly drowning too? Whoa. Gotta love a water motif) I dunno, I have a lot of Thoughts about her and the choices she made. It takes a lot of strength to make that sort of sacrifice. I also loved her POV chapters where she deals with being under Ashfur's reign though I feel like they could have been expanded on a little. I just like her a whole lot! Sunbeam is great though, I really like the direction they're taking her character and I like how "real" her conflict is, essentially dealing with her mom being politically radicalized. Sunbeam's feelings on the matter are so realisitically messy and complicated. While she is a less consistently written character than Bris is, she is more interesting in terms of characterization... Her relationship with Nightheart is cute but I kind of feel like they'd work better as friends, Sunbeam seems to be a little insecure and quick to catastrophize about being abandoned by him (even after her excellent development in Thunder). And like, girl, I get it, I've been there, but... Anyway, I like how messy she is emotionally and I think her chapters are almost always really good, I'm just waiting for her to get truly involved in the main RiverClan conflict a little more... Of course, with Berryheart over there now I think I'll get my wish So, Bristlefrost I think works better in terms of narrative function whereas Sunbeam has more interesting characterization moment-to-moment. But I love them both <3

I remember hardly anything of TBC and I haven't read this current arc but I voted for Sunbeam on the basis that I like her design and name more, I also like ShadowClan more than ThunderClan, and I know that Sunbeam is in ThunderClan now, but she still has a lot of ties to ShadowClan

I did not really like Bristlefrost. It's creepy how she even acted towards Stemleaf and Spotfur. At least with Sunbeam she had reason to believe that Blazefire did like her, and they had an actual relationship, and she didn't really do anything too unreasonable to Blazefire and Lightleap afterwards. Some might call her and Nightheart's relationship boring, but you know what, we don't always need there to be relationship drama. Having a seemingly healthy and stable relationship for once is great.

There is plenty of relationship drama with Sunbeam and Nightheart, there's about two books focusing solely on that. Maybe less than what Bristlefrost has in terms of drama but you can't say it wasn't dramatic how both of them angsted about if he was just using her as a rebound girl or not.

I love Sunbeam! I pick her.
The forbidden romance with Bristlefrost and Rootspring was annoying. Plus the duties aspect over romance. Just ugh. Even though it would’ve had one switch Clans, it moved too slow and Bristlefrost died before that happened.
