Based off what I’ve seen regarding the Wind leak, it seems that Squirrelstar is still reluctant to get involved in Riverclan.
She previously did want to be more hands on as deputy. We now see her more thoughtful and cautious which could just be due to the added responsibility as leader. However, do you think it could be that she never received her nine lives and that she doesn’t want to risk getting killed in a battle?
Do you think she actually got her lives or is this just me overthinking it? what are your thoughts on this?

I really hope she didn't get her 9 lives but regardless this is still just a weird character change that's pretty sudden.

A lot of us are skeptical of her getting 9 lives. Until we see a ceremony, some of us don't believe that she is. I personally hope that she either dies by the end of the arc or retires since the leak shows her being a massive hypocrite.

I'd prefer it if she didn't have her lives, but only because she's lived long enough. Actually, all of the cats from the first two arcs should be either dead or retired by now.
That said, I really don't think her decision is that weird. Annoying, sure, especially given the circumstances, but not that weird. Being a deputy isn't the same as being leader, and with ShadowClan now having pulled out of RiverClan (the reason she wanted to get involved in the first place), of course she now has to look at the situation differently. Invading early, when Splashtail has support, especially in his own Clan (for the time being; clearly that'll change, especially after Harelight's death), would only lead to disaster.

so why did you want to attack shadowclan as deputy? Because ShadowClan isn't a threat anymore and RiverClan (albeit under false pretenses) has a leader again. Squirrelstar clearly believes Frostpaw, but the situation is now way more complicated than just "overthrow occupying foreign power". It's now become "overthrow current ruler who has the majority of his own land's support, one whose position as an occupied state had only ended very recently."
Obviously this will change now that we know exactly how bad "Splashstar" gets, but looking at this from a political angle, it makes sense why she was so hesitant to get involved, especially when the only other Clan backing her was ShadowClan, who hasn't exactly had the best reputation as of late (or ever). And considering everything that happens towards the end of Wind and since there's only one more book to go anyway...

I am very skeptical of her right now. All her talk about going to war with ShadowClan and now she's not even willing to denounce Splashtail, a greater priority threat than ShadowClan? My guess is that she never actually got her nine lives and she's hoping the other leaders will sort things out so she won't risk dying in a huge battle. I have even more reason to believe this theory after reading the rough Wind compilation PDF, though nothing admittedly too obvious showed up there.

The reason her character did a 180, being so cautious and all- is because if she goes to the frontlines and dies, she shatters the illusion that she got nine lives at all.
But I've got zero faith in the Erins right now to think of this :/

There were some hints in Thunder that, at least to me, imply she didn't get them and she and Bramble are lying. Nightstar's also been mentioned a few times, and he was in the same situation. Also could fit into the arc since "A Starless Clan" could also refer to her not actually being "Squirrelstar".
I mentioned it in the Wind excerpt thread, but I honestly don't see how this is out of character for her. The situation in RiverClan from when she was deputy and now when she's leader has changed. Her issue was Tigerstar impeding on RiverClan's sovereignty, and now he's pulled out of RiverClan with Splashtail/Splashstar having the majority support in RiverClan as leader. It makes sense she'd want to be cautious, especially if she wants to keep the illusion that she's received nine lives and now she's in a position of power to do something. If she got involved now, right in middle of RiverClan recovering, she'd be doing the exact same thing Tigerstar did.
