Just wondering what media (books, movies, tv shows, songs) you guys like going to when you are down or having a not so great day.
I like watching Cars for the nostalgia and comfy feelings it brings. There's also a book called All of a kind family that I also like reading. It has a pretty simple and wholesome story that always makes me feel better.

If I’m just feeling a little emotionally pent up, I tend to go for shows/books/video games with sad themes to them, or will write something a little sad. Generally I’d would do re-reads or rewatches here. The catharsis of it is just a relief. But if I’m like in a genuinely bad mood I just want a show that’ll distract me. Ideally something new instead of something I’ve seen before.

Off the top of my head: -Flash games especially platformers and score attack stuff. Nice repetitive, soothing motions... Flashpoint Archive is everything to me. -Adolescence of Utena is, in addition to being my favorite movie ever, also a huge comfort movie because the ending escape is just so damn hopeful <3 It's also just nice to get lost in the surreal and beautiful visuals... There are a lot of scenes I really like but I'll link the classic dance scene. -The Youtube channel "Todd in the Shadows" is one of my go-to comfort watches, especially his "Trainwreckords" series, about albums that tank bands' reputations so hard it ends or changes the trajectory of their careers. "One Hit Wonderland" is also really fun since you get to learn about the life story of forgotten bands who only had one hit! -Seconding the mention of The Last Unicorn also. It's also my favorite book! Uh, some other comfort movies would definitely be Labyrinth, and, like, any silly Dracula movie. -Whenever I'm upset I always like listening to Kate Bush on shuffle, her discography really takes me somewhere else <3 -I can't think of anything else so the list ends here for now :3

I'm a theatre buff so most often I'll listen to/watch musicals. Specific one(s) vary based on my mood but (some of) my favorites/ones that are really special to me are Come From Away, Hadestown, Hamilton, Matilda, and lately How To Dance In Ohio. Also the movie of tick, tick...BOOM! on Netflix.
Also listening to/watching pretty much anything from The Young People's Chorus of NYC, especially watching the video of their song Liminality at night in the dark. The vibes and visuals are just so calming and mesmerizing.

I don't know if I have comfort media. Usually when I'm having a bad day I'm more likely to seek comfort in people close to me (either venting or spending time with them), and if I'm just trying to distract myself then honestly anything laying around will do.
I'm a very nostalgic person and regularly re-consume media that I love, I just don't do it as like a comfort thing.

whenever I'm super stressed I reread the entire Inheritance Cycle. if the problem hasn't gone away by the time I'm done with that, then it's a sign I'm in a bad living situation and need to get out lmao
also tokyo ghoul. I'm p sure I could recount the first season line for line by now

Iceberg conspiracy videos. I have no idea why Iceberg videos on yt are a rabbit hole. You watch one then suddenly you spend half your day watching more of them.

The two IPs that have really been huge comforts for me post-COVID have been Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and the Yakuza/Like a Dragon video games.
Some of the characters have actually become comfort characters accidentally. Like I see Kiryu and Majima like violently supportive uncles

Oh! And a podcast called ‘Nobody Listens To Paula Poundstone” it’s very liberal and VERY explicit. It’s ’your comedy field guide to life’ as they say on the show. I highly recommend it, it has genuinely made me laugh out loud many times. It’s usually abt 2-3 hours long and is released every Tuesday. Lmk if you give it a listen!
