I've seen this sort of be debated ever since the reveal of Curlfeather's involvement in the RiverClan conspiracy and the extent of her actions when it comes to using Frostpaw.
Personally, I think Curlfeather does love Frostpaw (and her other two kits). But that still didn't stop her from using her daughter for her own gain, manipulating and lying to her as well as using the trust Frostpaw had in her mother and their shared bond in order to try and achieve her own goals of gaining power over RiverClan.
The reason why I'm bringing this topic up now is because I was looking through the Thunder spoiler thread again and saw the specific comment after the Curlfeather reveal along the lines of her "screaming in agony while being ripped apart by the dogs in order to torment her daughter further" (paraphrasing here). That's just such a wild thing to write about a character in retrospect who was literally mauled to death in that scene and had every right to express her agony during those last few final moments, in my opinion. Even though that character turned out to be a villain (or antagonist, actually not sure about how she's classified).
But yeah, in my mind, Curlfeather can be a bad person while also still loving her kits, specifically Frostpaw. If she really didn't care about her daughter, she would've sought shelter in the trees herself when they got ambushed by the dogs and let Frostpaw fend for herself. Which either would've meant no more Frostpaw PoV or her finding out about her mother's true colors much sooner had she escaped the dogs. Again, this, of course, doesn't change the fact that she ultimately violated her daughter's trust for power.
I really hope these two have one final conversation/confrontation in this arc.

I think she did. Saving her from dogs aside, we also have moments of her snapping at Splashtail after he basically insults Frostpaw in front of her and I don't think it was just because he kept doubting her plan. It'd also make Curlfeather that much more interesting of a character than if she didn't care for her kits at all, if she genuinely thought she was doing right by them without realizing she was actually doing far more harm than good, all because her grief for her mate festered into something much darker.
Also, I never really understood that comment about the dogs. They're dogs. Frostpaw was clearly going to hear her screams regardless!

Yes. Frostpaw deserves so much better than her, but I do think that Curlfeather loved her daughter, despite everything that's happened.

I think Curlfeather absolutely loved her. I wouldn't die to save someone I didn't care for in some way... I'm excited to learn more about Curlfeather in the next 2 books, she has a lot of potential.

Adding to what others have already said- I also think the scene where Riverstar says Curlfeather had accepted the consequences of her actions before her death adds to it. It's hard to try to see her sacrifice as a selfish attempt to redeem herself last minute if she had accepted going to the dark forest. You don't just sacrifice yourself knowing you'll die a painful death and then end up in cat hell forever afterwards for someone you don't care about.

Yes, in her own kind of messed-up way. I think Curlfeather truly cared for Frostpaw's well-being, but decided that manipulating and lying to her was okay for some reason. I think she can love Frostpaw but still see her as nothing more than a tool for her to gain power at the same time. I really hope we get a final confrontation between them because it'll be really interesting to see how Warriors handles those two ideas.

I think she loved Frostpaw. This was evident by her visit from "StarClan". Curlfeather knew it was her last time to ever see her daughter again, you could see the desperation in her dialogue. And her protecting her at the very last second of her life, warning her.
I don't think she was a good mother, she was a terrible mother, actually. But I still think she loved Frostpaw, just in a very twisted way.

She may have loved her, but it’s not the best look when Curlfeather’s ambitions of furthering her own position outshined said love, especially when it puts RiverClan in a rough place.

It’s like Tigerstar, she does love her kits but still uses them as pawns.
