Just got done watching it for movie night with my parents and wanted to make thread for it before seeing one already made. Absolutely loved it! I guessed the ending because I hoped for it to happen midway and it did <3
This movie was perfect for Women's Day (since it came out yesterday). For anyone who likes dark fairy tales, dragons and beautiful visuals, I highly recommend this one. Millie Bobby Brown as Princess Elodie slayed (literally) and Robin Wright as Queen Isabelle was cold as ice.
One final thing I adored was the voice of the dragon. Even in German it sounded fantastic and I'm about to rewatch it in English just for that even though I always usually do so anyway when that is the original language of a production after watching the German dub with my parents.

The female protagonist was not wearing a chemise under her corsetted bodice. 0/10 points.

The female protagonist was not wearing a chemise under her corsetted bodice. 0/10 points. she does have a chemise. it's actually the majority of her odd strapless-minidress final outfit situation (it did have wide straps originally they were just torn off at some point. not entirely sure how the fabric stayed over her chest after that bc it didn't seem like the corset quite went over the bust, but i minded suspending my disbelief over that less than over the copious overuse of makeup tbh)- but yeh the corset is a separate piece its just mostly the same color as the chemise especially after the whole thing is covered in grime. but you do also directly see them putting the corset on over the chemise during the scene where she's prepped for her wedding.

anyway i watched the movie w my family a few days ago! It was solid overall, thought it handled the plot pretty well and it was predictable but in a way I found mostly satisfying. The dragon was also done super well both in design and the voicework, and I appreciated that it committed to being a more brutal fairy tale with actual dangerous stakes rather than just kinda doing an edgy aesthetic and leaving it at that. I do think the characterization was kinda weak though, I appreciated Elodie but never felt like she had a clear personality, I wish the characters had been given more expository scenes and dialogue, it felt like they rushed into the action a bit too quickly. I want to read the book more now tho, I think it might have the stronger characterization I was hoping for.
