I'm reading wayyyy too many books at the moment. (Thanks, brain. ugh) One of them is LOTR, The Fellowship of the Ring. I really like it so far. Ey, cool! I'm nearly done with the second book, Two towers! I've really been enjoying the characters and all of the fun worldbuilding! On another note, currently a few chapters into my reread of all of the Sherlock Holmes stories!

ayo how are you liking it? The pacing is dogshit and I don't understand half of wtf is going on but i'm trudging on I guess. I'm determined to finish it.
Yeah I ended up dropping it really early because I got busy and it didn't hook me enough I might try and finish it eventually, when I can get a physical copy. The other one was an electronic copy from my library and tbh I can't bring myself to read those unless they're REALLY good

The other one was an electronic copy from my library and tbh I can't bring myself to read those unless they're REALLY good I felt like, with as cyberpunk obsessed as I am it was a necessary read because it's a genre-defining piece but I just don't think the writing is... good. There are a lot of details that feel disjointed to the scenes themselves that make it hard to focus on what's going on and hard to paint a clear mental image of the characters and setting. The dialogue between characters also feels almost juvenile while referencing other characters, things, and worldbuilding the reader hasn't had experience with yet that make it difficult to put into context and feel the actual gravity of the situation. I'm actually listening to it in audiobook form and just trying to tackle a few chapters a day. I've been having insomnia on my new medication and keeping my eyes closed and listening to it is about as close as I've gotten to sleep in the last four days. That could also be my problem.

Yeah that was the reason I picked it up too. I really liked the opening scene but it does feel pretty cluttered and hard to follow. I don't usually need to reread paragraphs but I remember doing that a few times to figure out who was doing what actions and that's never a good thing. I could only imagine how hard it would be to keep track of in audio+sleep deprivation

One of my oddest qualities (? if you can call it that) is the depth of my LOTR lore knowledge that I have picked up purely by osmosis, as I have never read the books. I've had several friends who are big Tolkien nerds, and analysis of his works circulate Catholic tumblr a lot for obvious reasons.
We've been watching the movies through with some friends who have never seen it and one of whom has just recently reads the books for the first time, and it's kinda freaky how often I'll explain the deeper book context for specific scenes when I've never actually read them myself.

Kinda jumping around atm but reading through Mister Magic by Kiersten White, Someone Who Will Love You In All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, and Masters of Death by Olivie Blake. I also abandoned Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao like halfway through a while ago and have been meaning to get back to it.

Doing a re-read of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and I might do a complete re-read of all of MXTX's novels soon, especially after finishing the donghua for TGCF.

Now on The House of Hades in The Heroes of Olympus series. Kind of an overrated book in the series in my opinion, not that it's bad, but I was a bit underwhelmed by lots of it.
It's not that it's a badly written book but I expected...more to come from how bad Tartarus itself was. A lot of the villains and some of the action scenes seemed mediocre given exactly how bad we are told Tartarus was throughout all those eight books previously. The quest on the mortal side wasn't as good as The Mark of Athena or even The Son of Neptune, either. But it's not a bad book. I just thought it could've been much better, and a lot more climactic.

Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy (physical copy) Grant by Ron Chernow (digital copy) What Happened by Hillary R. Clinton (audiobook)
I have like three more books that I bought on the back burner too. It’s easy to buy books and so hard to actually commit to finishing them. haha
