Her death was disappointing to be quite honest. She deserved an on-screen death and it really shouldn't have been in between arcs.

Leafpool deserved an onscreen death. She was such an important character for so long. And then they just...nuke her in an SE

Squirrelflights Hope was a mess, but this aspect wasn’t that bad. Leafpool being alive during the ashfur mess would be pretty dumb and her prologue in TPoNS or aLitM (I don’t remember which one and I don’t have a copy on me) was pretty exciting.
And don’t forget the Jayfeather bonus scene in lost stars!

She deserved better than to be killed in a rockslide with Moonlight and Squirrelflight, and then Squirrelflight can somehow decide if she lives or dies or not. Squirrelflight's reasoning to be alive would fit all of Leafpool's reasonings, too (except for Bramblestar, but Leafpool has Jayfeather and Lionblaze, and Alderheart was her apprentice, too, and she's the medicine cat for the entire Clan). It makes no sense why Leafpool would choose to die and Squirrelflight chooses to go back. She really deserved better than being killed by Tigerheart/Cloverfoot/Scorchfur.

At the very least, Leafpool definitely should've gotten a main series on-screen death, not just in an SE. Killing her off in TBC, for example, would've already worked out better. Just imagine if Ashfur had killed her. The potential for drama was right there...
And she was also an important character who still could've enhanced the plot if left alive longer, in my opinion. Even if only until TBC. But even in ASC.

I agree with everyone else that she deserved an on-screen death. Like the poster above me said, it would have been really powerful if Ashfur killed her during TBC. I think if Ashfur had killed Leafpool in Bramblestar's body, she would have probably met with Bramblestar's ghost and we could have gotten some development between the two of them (because Leafpool didn't really like him in TNP lol). Plus the idea of Ashfur still trying to take everyone Squirrelflight loves away from her, but with no one for her to blame this time, would be really sneaky.
