Been feeling a little philosophical about her as of recently - for context I'm thinking of writing a BIG AU and was planning out minor scenes in my head and Mothwing stuck out to me.
Since many of us believe she's about kick the bucket soon (myself included) I think now would be a good time to discuss what would happen after her death. Like what would happen if Frostpaw comes back to RiverClan after meditating and realizes she's just. Gone? She likely won't have the chance to interact with her again. What about the implications that she won't be able to go to StarClan? Could that be the reason the writing team is still keeping her and Cloudtail alive since they're not sure what to do with them? Perhaps I'm looking into that aspect too much.
Along with being concerned with RiverClan having no medicine cat (in Frostpaw's abscence) I wonder about how cats close to her in StarClan must feel. After Willowshine died in TBC, there's no one to pass messages from StarClan to her, meaning that Mothwing's former apprentice won't have the chance to talk to her either. Neither will Leafpool or Mothwing's mentor, Mudfur (The latter did use Willowshine as a method to send messages in Po3 though.) The whole concept just makes me a bit sad in all honesty.
Wanted to keep my thoughts motorsport and sweet on this idea; I just think Mothwing is pretty neat.

I think that both Mothwing and Cloudtail will for sure go to StarClan when they die.
Purdy is up there as well, after all. And I'm pretty sure he didn't really believe in them either.
Also, all three of them (Mothwing, Cloudtail and Purdy) saw StarClan cats during the Great Battle. They know these spirits are real. Mothwing also stated that she does believe/know that StarClan is real. But she chooses to question their power and the power they have over the Clans. Being an atheist was/is just not really an option for her or Cloudtail any longer though since they've seen firsthand that StarClan does exist.
As for Mothwing dying in ASC, I'm one of those people who still thinks this will happen. Especially now with Splashtail in power. Unless she goes to another Clan for refuge, like Frostpaw will according to the Wind blurb, or he exiles her (since he pretty much already replaced her with his seemingly puppet medicine cat Podlight).
I do love Mothwing, she's a neat character and just as interesting to me as the rest of her siblings and parents.

I believe she is dead already, personally.
I do believe she will go to StarClan. Her and Cloudtail both. I will miss her, but it's too suspicious that she's not seen at the gathering in Thunder.
I haven't read that far yet, just going off the spoiler thread. At least from what I remember.

Ive read the gathering scene three times, and each time I swear I see a part where Mothwing looks at Podlight. I’ll reread it soon and look for the page where she shows up.

I hope she’s either already dead or will die in Wind or Star. I believe she’ll go to StarClan.

This might turn into a long response but I just have to say that TBC and ASC have made Mothwing a MUCH better character for me, now she’s almost one of my favourites contrasted to when in TNP she was one of my most hated characters. The reasons I disliked her in TNP were that she just seemed very whiny and ignorant for me, the belief that StarClan wasn’t real made her interesting but it also drove me up the wall. And I didn’t care for her compared to Hawkfrost. She also seemed kind of useless, Reedpaw almost drowned and RiverClan was poisoned because of her incompetence. In TBC she did a turn-around, and while I disliked her at the time, when I reread it a few weeks ago she really stood out to me. Going to tag as spoilers in case some of you haven’t read TBC.
“Mothwing sniffed. ‘I had to be angry with some cat,’ she mewed. ‘I’m sorry I was so hard on you. I was grieving for my place in RiverClan and needed some cat to blame. And I suppose, in some way, you represented my worst fear - that living cats would go against their own instincts to follow the dangerous instructions of some long-dead cat. But Ashfur could have used any cat. It wasn’t your fault he chose you, and I shouldn’t have acted like it was. If he had chosen me, I might have been fooled too. But I don’t think I would have been brave enough to follow him into the Dark Forest.’ She glanced at the wounds in Shadowsight’s pelt, where his fur was still matted with dried blood. ‘Even when you were injured, you went back there to help defeat him once and for all. How could any cat be angry with you?’”
This makes her a much more morally grey character than she ever was in TNP. Grieving for her place in RiverClan and taking it out on Shadowsight, but then helping him get to the Moonpool when Tigerstar forbade him, and finally helping and apologising to him made me really like her.
In ASC, she’s an amazing mentor for Frostpaw, and tries to help and guide her as much as she can. It’s understandable that she’s angry with Frostpaw in Shadow as she thought Frostpaw had a connection with StarClan. Then there was an amazing moment when she bit back at Fidgetflake for being judgemental:
“Mothwing’s gaze hardened. She lifted her chin. ‘RiverClan doesn’t have to explain anything to you,’ she snapped at Fidgetflake. ‘You’re here to get Owlnose his nine lives. That’s all. You’re lucky I even let you into my medicine den. We forgot we had catmint, okay? And look-‘ she lifted a dry catmint leaf with her paw and it crumbled into fragments. ‘This herb is so old I doubt it’ll cure anyone.’ Fidgetflake’s eyes narrowed. But Mothwing glared back at him, unflinching. He dipped his head.”
Overall, though Mothwing might be ruined for some people, for me she’s actually improved, and I’m genuinely intrigued to see how she is in Wind.
