So, now that Splashtail and Curlfeather have both been officially confirmed as villains for this still ongoing arc as of the new (yet to officially release but already spoiled) book Thunder, I really hope that there are more motivations/reasons for them conspiring to kill Reedwhisker and using Frostpaw as a puppet medicine cat besides them both wanting power.
Because, while I've got nothing against that in terms of villain plans (since my favorite villain is still Tigerstar I and this goal of power is a common one with many villains throughout different books, shows and so on), I also would like there to be more (and, again using Tigerstar as an example, there was indeed more to him too, since he got abandoned by his father Pinestar as a kit which lead to his hatred of kittypets and he had a bad mentor in Thistleclaw as as an apprentice which helped form his violent and cruel tendencies).
For Curlfeather, I hope it gets confirmed that Reedwhisker was her (and Podlight's) father, and thus that he was the mate of Duskfur. It would give her backstory and family history an interesting layer since she would thus be a part of Appledusk's bloodline that was cursed/haunted by Mapleshade. And on that note, I'd love for Curlfeather to meet Mapleshade since she's now basically confirmed to be in the Dark Forest (or rather, it was insinuated that she's not in StarClan but still seems very likely that she's indeed a DF cat now). With Frecklewish confirmed to be in the Dark Forest as well, I wonder if her and Curlfeather would team up against Mapleshade. And I'm saying that as someone who originally didn't want any ghost involvement to happen during ASC.
As for Splashtail, I did consider the idea that he might be mad at what happened to Softpelt in TBC, since she was his mentor, but I'm just not sure if it would indeed be a strong enough motive to conspire with Curlfeather over taking RiverClan's leadership and getting rid of Reedwhisker. Although maybe a mix of him just being naturally powerhungry and being bitter over his mentor's death might indeed be the case, I'm just not that impressed by this alone, to be honest. Hoping there's at least a bit more to him in terms of backstory.

Curlfeather's motivation would be to seize power so that RiverClan follows the ancient warrior code. She does it for her mother, Duskfur. Curlfeather would also like to return his honor to RiverClan after the events of A Vision of Shadows and The Broken Code. Splashtail's motivation would be to permanently sever RiverClan's ties to StarClan by for example forbidding Havenpelt from teaching his kits belief and faith in their ancestors. Splashtail considers StarClan responsible for Softpelt's death. Once leader, Splashtail intends to attack the other Clans to impose the same thing on them and thus make StarClan fall into oblivion. Splashtail on a crusade to spread atheism.

Curlfeather's is fine, though I wish we could get it elaborated on a bit so it's not just a generic grab for power. Reedwhisker being her father would be a double whammy on that too, for all the reasons you mentioned.
Splashtail's is a bit disappointing to me since I was under the interpretation he was motivated by his dedication to his Clan and wanted to take extreme measures to get rid of Tigerstar and ShadowClan, which I think makes him at least a little bit morally gray, but now it just seems to be a case of grand ambition. He's quite easily just been given sole power of RiverClan now, though he seems to have the sheer force of personality and popularity to make it work.
