I personally want her to realize that she's the best candidate after all. I don't want her to end up as an "I saved the world, and all I got was this stupid trophy" background character à la Violetshine or Shadowsight.

I think she was always meant to be a warrior, but Starclan (or rather Riverstar) decided to make the best out Riverclan's current situation. Mothwing is getting old and desperately needs a successor; they already have the leadership power vacuum to deal with, Riverclan doesn't need to figure out who should be medicine cat at the same time.
Seeing as now Frostpaw has a legitimate connection to Starclan, she'll probably decide to stay a medicine cat.

im gonna be completely honest. i know some people want froststar and some people want her to remain a medic. but i really just want her to do whatever she completely wants to do. not be leader because she feels completely pressured. nor be a medic because something happens to mothwing in the future.

Seeing as now Frostpaw has a legitimate connection to Starclan, she'll probably decide to stay a medicine cat. In the Thunder excerpt, it seems like Riverstar was thinking something along those lines, like you said: However, Frostpaw was visibly much happier as a warrior apprentice and is also now understandably traumatized due to the revelation of how her own mother used her, so she might not want to return to being a medicine cat apprentice under any circumstances ever again because of that. And like, I know Firestar was an extra special case of well...special, but he also had visions and a StarClan connection as a warrior. So Frostpaw could still be destined for leadership like he was.
Then there's also the fact that two new cats of the Park, Waffle and Wasp, will join the Clans (first only ThunderClan since Nightheart is mentioned to train them in the Wind blurb). But yeah, I could see one of them joining RiverClan and becoming a medicine cat apprentice instead, after the whole "Podlight as the new RC medicine cat" bs is dealt with. Or maybe Bee somehow comes along later and becomes the new medicine cat. Since he was specfically mentioned to have "visions of strange cats watching him" or something like that. Granted, it could also mean he might be destined for leadership instead. But who knows, we'll just have to wait and see, I suppose.

Perhaps Bee could be one, but leader is out of the question. With how Riverclan is now, there's no way they would accept some random loner as leader, especially not on Frostpaw's word. They can't even trust Starclan's word, considering that Podlight is lying about his own dreams. It would his word against Frostpaw's, and Starclan is usually unhelpful and tend to be vague whenever asked.
At this point, anyone can walk up and say "Well, I had a dream from Starclan..."
Idk, it just seems incredibly unrealistic for Frostpaw to be proclaimed leader when she hasn't completed training, has not trained an apprentice, and is generally unexperienced. That's just my opinion though.

That's just my opinion though. I understand that. But to me, anything is possible, even at this point, we've got only two more books to go in this arc and speculating about RiverClan's leader is all there is to do until they finally do reveal it (probably in the final book).

I do think it was circumstance that she was chosen, since Curlfeather was the one who dragged Frostpaw into the whole mess, which causes Frostpaw to be at the center and have to deal with the consequences of it. But we'll see, I feel like it could be either way.
