Hey there! I am an old fan returned and was looking to reread the warrior cats series. My problem is, I am not quite sure how to go about it. I had previously read all of Firestar's story and I believe I started the prequels and gotten to Thunder Rising or The First Battle. As I go to reread this beloved series, I am torn between chronological order, as shown in this article warriorcats.com/content/article/warriors-in-chronological-order or in spoiler avoidance order as seen in this article warriorcats.com/content/article/warrior-cats-the-recommended-reading-order. Since I have already read the majority of the books, I am not too concerned with spoilers, except maybe in more recent releases. Any thoughts from those of you have have read the books more recently than I?

I was a kid when I read the first and second series and some of the third. I came back into warriors via A Vision of Shadows and that brought my love flying back. I'd recommend that.

if you haven't already started re reading, I would actually strongly reccomend reading in chronological order. That's what I'm doing right now and let me tell you it is a TRIP. I am also an old fan that returned to reading the books

I am also an old fan that returned to reading the books I haven't started yet. Kinda thinking I might start at the new year and see how far I can get in the year. I was highly considering chronological order. I am curious, are you reading all the side stories and manga as well in chronological order, or just the main series? You say "it's a TRIP", which already makes me want to try. Are you finding it gives different light on things? Or is it just interesting to see later events referenced so early?

Yep I am reading everything- novellas, super editions, main series and mangas. I haven't yet gotten up to any mangas yet but once I got to Mapleshade's Revenge and especially Goosefeather's Curse The Prophecies Begin really took on a whole new light for me. Reading through Yellowfang, Tallstar, Crookedstar and I'm currently reading Bluestar's special editions has been an amazing insight to them and great background information. Things from TPB really do come in to a new light, especially as I draw closer to actually beginning TPB I also read a comment that someone thought ThunderClan was very weak under Pinestar's leadership. Not going to dispute it too much but seeing how each Clan's strengths and weaknesses is dictated by their leader is fascinating. Especially because my main experience before reading in chronological order was ThunderClan under Firestar. Clan leaders make a huge impact on not only their clan but also how the other Clans perceive them. I really enjoyed DotC as well. I really loved seeing the formation of clans but I will say by the time I finally got out of those character's POV's I was happy. Thanderstar's Echo is an easy skip as well it is such a waste of time. If you are worried about losing interest though and you want to revisit for nostalgia, I think starting at Cloudstar's Journey would be good, and skip DotC and the related novellas. and perhaps after you've gone through from Cloudstar's Journey and you still want to read more battle cats then go to DotC.

Bouncing off what Pixie said as well, rereading in chronological order is a big task (of which I am currently undertaking and you can see my decent into madness in my thread about it.) like i said in my previous post, I would highly recommend starting with Cloudstar's Journey and going through the chronological books until TPB, then stick to main arcs for the most part, but read Firestar's Quest after TPB and Skyclan's Destiny before The New Prophecy, then again just stick to main arcs.
my recommending Firestar's Quest and SkyClan's Destiny is a bit of a projection/estimation, as I have already read the main arcs so I know what comes up in the clans

That is most interesting. Since I never finished DotC I would like to read it. I am currently planning on at least trying to hit all the main series and the super editions. Manga is up in the air as I would need to probably get them from the library, and I am not sure how I can access the novella (I think they are online only).

I think that's a good way to go about it. I wouldn't worry too much about manga until after you've gotten through the special editions and main arcs. Unless you really want to read a particular manga with the novellas: They can be easily found online in pdf form but, even better, there are a couple of people on youtube who have read them as audiobooks and they have done a fantastic job. This is how I consumed most of the novellas so far

Alternatively... (includes Field Guides) Arc 1 Into the Wild Fire And Ice Forest of Secrets Rising Storm Exile From ShadowClan A Dangerous Path Bluestar's Prophecy The Darkest Hour The Rise of Scourge A Shadow in RiverClan A Thief in ThunderClan Arc 2 Midnight Moonrise Ravenpaw's Path Dawn Tigerstar and Sasha Starlight Winds of Change Twilight Sunset Secrets of the Clans Firestar's Quest Arc 3 The Sight Graystripe's Adventure Dark River SkyClan's Destiny Outcast Cats of the Clans Eclipse Long Shadows Code of the Clans Sunrise Arc 4 The Fourth Apprentice Fading Echoes Battles of the Clans Night Whispers Crookedstar's Promise Sign of the Moon SkyClan and the Stranger The Forgotten Warrior The Untold Stories Yellowfang's Secret The Last Hope Tales from the Clans Arc 5 The Sun Trail Thunder Rising Tallstar's Revenge The Ultimate Guide I The First Battle The Blazing Star A Forest Divided Path of Stars Moth Flight's Vision Bramblestar's Storm Arc 6 The Apprentice's Quest Shadows of the Clans Hawkwing's Journey Thunder and Shadow Shattered Sky Legends of the Clans Darkest Night Tigerheart's Shadow River of Fire Crowfeather's Trial Path of a Warrior The Raging Storm Arc 7 Lost Stars Squirrelflight's Hope The Silent Thaw Veil of Shadows A Warrior's Spirit Darkness Within Graystripe's Vow The Place of No Stars A Warrior's Choice Leopardstar's Honour Onestar's Confession A Light in the Mist Arc 8 River Sky Shadow Riverstar's Home Thunder The Ultimate Guide II Wind ASC 6 Ivypool's Heart Reasoning: Arc 1 Reasons - Exile From ShadowClan must be after Rising Storm. In A Dangerous Path, it is revealed Nightstar never got nine lives, this provides backstory.
- Bluestar's Prophecy contains spoilers for A Dangerous Path, so it must come after.
- The Rise of Scourge must be read after The Darkest Hour to make the tigerstar killing twist a surprise.
- A Shadow in RiverClan and A Thief in ThunderClan must be after The Darkest Hour as it deals with the direct implications on the main characters. They also softly tease New Prophecy.
Arc 2 Reasons - Ravenpaw's Path should be read after Moonrise, as the Crowkit scene will have more impact.
- Tigerstar and Sasha must be read after Dawn since Sasha plays a major role in the books, and the comics answer why.
- Winds of Change should be after Starlight since it contains major spoilers. It also enhances the Hawkfrost plot in the later books.
- Secrets of the Clans contains spoilers for New Prophecy, but not The Sight.
- Firestar's Quest should be the last book read before The Sight as it teases what is to come.
Arc 3 Reasons - Graystripe's Adventure should be read after The Sight, since he retirns in that book, and the comics show how.
- SkyClan's Destiny should take place after Firestar's Quest but before SkyClan and the Stranger. Any time in Power of Three would suffice, but it is here to keep the pacing.
- Cats of the Clans refers to all cats as their ranks in Outcast, so it must be read after that.
- Code of the Clans is hosted by Leafpool, it will tease her role in Sunrise, which should be read after this.
Arc 4 Reasons - Battles of the Clans is hosted by various cats during fading Echoes. Also demonstrates The Dark Forest's power.
- Crookedstar's Promise gives insight on Mapleshade, who is introduced in Night Whispers, making it after that in reading order.
- SkyClan and the Stranger provided Sol's backstory which enriches his appearence in The Forgotten Warrior, making it come before it on the list.
- The Untold Stories should be read after The Forgotten Warrior because it details Hollyleaf's doings before her retirn in that book.
- Yellowfang's Secret should be read before The Last Hope due to the plot of Brokenstar being StarClan's punishment, and showing the scope of his tyrannny.
- Tales From The Clans serves as an epilogue to the first four arcs, with Leafpool's Wish showing the Three's origins, and Dovewing's Silence showing the aftermath of battle.
Arc 5 Reasons - Tallstar's Revenge mentions some Dawn of The Clans cats from The Sun Trail. It should be read after The Sun Trail, but before Thunder Rising, so that the intrigue of why these cats are significant still stands.
- The Ultimate Guide I contains information up to Thunder Rising, so it should be read after.
- Moth Flight's Vision serves as an epilogue to Dawn of the Clans, so it should be read after the series is complete.
- Bramblestar's Storm gives insight on the modern Clans, and should be read before A Vision of Shadows sue to the teasers. It should be after Dawn of the Clans to reiterate the break from the modern timeline the arc provided.[/li
Arc 6 Reasons - Shadows of the Clans contains Ravenpaw's Farewell, which starts off the SkyClan arc that continues in Hawkwing's Journey.
- Hawkwing's Journey explains why SkyClan weren't at the Gorge, and shows how dangerous Darktail is.
- Legends of the Clans doesn't need to be in a set area. When this happens, I keep it at its release order after Shattered Sky.
- Tigerheart's Shadow should be read after Darkest Night to provide investment in where Tigerheart and Dovewing are. It should be read before River of Fire to preserve the mystery of Rowanclaw's death and resignment.
- Crowfeather's Trial should be read after he becomes deputy. I put it after River of Fire to preserve release order.
- Path of a Warrior includes Tawnypelt's Clan, which bridges the gap between River of Fire and The Raging Storm. It also shows Shadowkit's ability to have a role in The Raging Storm.
Arc 7 Reasons - Sqirrelflight's Hope should be read after Lost Stars to preserve the investment of the StarClan plot, b ut before The Silent Thaw, since the authors purposefully didn't mention SkyClan's new camp in Lost Stars.
- A Warrior's Spirit must be read after Squirrelflight's Hope as it explores The Sisters. It should also be read after The Silent Thaw, as it explores Root's relationship with Tree that is paralleled in Tree helping Rootpaw with spirits.
- In Darkness Within, Graystripe leaves to go on a wander. Graystripe's Vow shows what happens on the wander, so it should be read after Darkness Within.
- A Warrior's Choice should be read after Veil of Shadows due to the Spotfur novella. It should be read after Darkness Within, since Daisy's Kin starts during Darkness Within.
- Leopardstar's Honour should be read before A Light in the Mist, because Silverstream's personality in StarClan matches the one in the super edition. It also showcases how Leopardstar is considered morally gray yet still in StarClan, which is a theme covered in A Light in the Mist.
- Onestar's Confession should also be read before A Light in the Mist for the same reasons as Leopardstar's Honour. It also shows Darktail being raised like a Clan cat, which is paid off when he appears in the Dark Forest in A Light in the Mist.
Arc 8 Reasons - Riverstar's Home must be read before Thunder to enhance the plot of that book, according to Spinestar.
- Although it looks like The Ultimate Guide II only covers up until A Light In The Mist, I am putting it after Thunder just to be safe.
- Ivypool's Heart is said to be concurrent with ASC 6. I am putting it after in case it is a Tigerheart's Shadow situation.
