Is there a reason why the wiki assumes that the "tabby queen with distinctive black markings" that Rusty sees in Into the Wild chapter 3 isn't Brindleface or Speckletail? She's instead listed on the Minor Characters page. The ginger cat that she interacts with in this scene, however, is likely assumed to be Goldenflower because she doesn't appear on the wiki's Minor Characters page for this book.
Later on in the book, Brindleface is described as having darker flecks. "Four tiny kits huddled warmly in Brindleface’s deeply lined nest. Their fur was pale gray with darker flecks, just like their mother" That isn't necessarily "distinctive black markings," but it also isn't not "distinctive black markings."
Speckletail is golden on the official family tree, but the oft can't always be trusted, so I'm going to disregard it. Allegiances call her a pale tabby. There's no reason she can't be the tabby with black markings. Silver tabbies are pale gray with black markings, so Speckletail can be a pale tabby while also having distinctive black markings.
This is the most random and insignificant topic, but it's something I noticed as I reread the book more closely. I suppose no definite conclusion can be drawn on which one of them (Brindle or Speckle) this tabby is, so it's better to list her as an unnamed character on the wiki.

Maybe it was actually an entirely different cat and just an appearance error

not gonna quote bc we already discussed but the tabby cat in question didnt ever note that the kits were hers and nobody ever said that, it's just shown that she's close with them, but this is when lionheart tells firepaw that the queens take care of all the kits in the clans. so the concept is fresh in the author's mind - they can take care of kits without being their mother

I was just thinking about this. I have some theories! Most of these involve retcons, and the advantage of how not all cats in the Clan in this book appear in the allegiances. (Rosetail)
- Robinwing. We don't see any mention of her dying, and she had to have been alive for at most three seasons before Into the Wild, because of Dustpaw and Ravenpaw. - Maybe Longtail had a sister? I'm only saying it because the charart on the wiki looks very similar to Longtail. Also, it seems kind of unrealistic that Longtail, Graystripe, AND Sandpaw were in single kit litters. The other two I'd put the latter two up to their siblings dying in that greencough outbreak but Longtail would have been older or apprentice aged by then. - Brindleface, perhaps she served as a permaqueen between having Sandstorm and Ferncloud and co - Speckletail - Goldenflower???? She is pale, perhaps she was named after distinctive golden markings? - I don't know who else??? - This is driving me mad and has been for three weeks??? - I will lose sleep over this??? - Daisy

I have an old headcanon that she's Longtail's sister who is just a Queen who takes care of kits without any of her own (like Daisy and Ferncloud). I think I had the idea that Tigerclaw killed her along with Runningwind specifically to get to Longtail but that was so long ago I don't really remember. I think I called her Blackspeck.

I'm pretty sure the Clans are confirmed to be bigger than we think, as one of the Erins essentially said that the allegiances are the cast they focus on.

I'm pretty sure the Clans are confirmed to be bigger than we think, as one of the Erins essentially said that the allegiances are the cast they focus on. To an extent, but I always thought that was referring to the non-POV clans. Especially since in TPB the allegiances only had a handful of cats each for RC, WC, and SC. It'd be really odd if there were background cats in ThunderClan that are never mentioned (especially when you consider all the random scenes where we see background characters assigned to patrols and such). To me, it makes the most sense that this mystery queen was either (a) a background character made up on the spot that was immediately forgotten, or (b ) Brindleface before the authors had settled on her current canon description. My money is on the latter given her name is literally "Brindle".

It's not Brindleface, she didn't have kits at the time She birthed her kits in that book, so she might have been pregnant and thus hanging out with the queens by that time.
