In A Light in the Mist (not bothering with spoiler-ing this since it's been over a year) Gray Wing and Skystar (formerly known as Clear Sky) appear during the aftermath of the battle with Ashfur. Where were Windstar, Riverstar, Shadowstar, and Thunderstar? Ashfur was a massive threat to all five Clans, aside from StarClan and the Dark Forest. Why didn't they help?

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I believe those two specifically were there because it was kinda their fault Ashfur was let into StarClan at all. I'm pretty sure Gray Wing gave us an explanation.

I do remember Skystar saying "We thought he'd atoned," in regards to why Ashfur was allowed to join StarClan. Which still makes no sense. But alright.

I like to imagine riverstar was too busy sleeping and not being useful (very important task) anyways

Honestly, while I've never read TBC skimming over the scene just seems really odd and just shoved in there, why would Gray Wing and Skystar have anything to do with Ashfur in particular? If we take trials into account were they the ones to do his trial? Or? Because I remember something Yellowfang says he loved too much something something, granted it was her more-so explaining to Jayfeather but I've always thought she had something to do with how he got in StarClan in the first place
Honestlyx2 it just seems like they threw em' in there because yes, and not for any actual good reason, "Oh it's been a while since we've used these 2 very very specific characters that are not at all relevant to the plot in any way, good thinking ghost writer number 28" though I do find it funny that only 2 OGs show up and no one else, Thunderstar taking the time to send dreams and omens to one guy but can't be bothered to show up when the very existence of the clans are endangered...Then again it's happened so many times that I wouldn't blame the guy for going on a forever vacation

From how the scene sounded, it just seemed like both brothers were present, if not judges for Ashfurโs trial. Of course, Skystar would be willing to give Ashfur a second chance, considering how many chances he himself had. (And Clear Sky even got away with murder. *Gestures to Misty*)

Gray Wing has throughout DOTC been obsessed with trying to defend his brother, and always giving him second chances. Maybe he thought that if Ashfur wasn't allowed to be given a second chance, Skystar also shouldn't be allowed in StarClan, and he tries so desperately to justify Skystar and his actions. Obviously this also goes for Skystar, the guy did so many bad things, he would feel a lot of guilt not to let a fellow 'atoned' wrongdoer in StarClan. This is just speculation, but it might explain why Gray Wing and Skystar were involved and the rest of the DOTC cats not.

They met up with the others after the battle, in StarClan.

OP misremembers the book, Skystar and Gray Wing WEREN'T present for the battle. They're in Starclan and show up when the characters do a brief detour to visit it after the battle had concluded. The only reason they show up is because Gray Wing at least was a judge for Ashfur, and possibly Skystar too. Basically just trying to take heat off of themselves for making a very bad choice.
