In The Place of No Stars, Mapleshade wonders what it would be like if she could possess a living cat like Ashfur has done. Do you think possession as a concept should be left behind in The Broken Code, or do you think it would be cool if Mapleshade managed to figure out how Ashfur did it?

No Mapleshade thanks. It can be other cat that discovers that thing but not her. She has been used more than Firestar at this point

I still consider possession to be an interesting concept for sure.
That being said though, since we've now had an entire arc dedicated to a leader getting possessed by a former love rival of his (the drama), I'm not exactly keen on a cat getting possessed (or revealed to have been taken over by a spirit for some time in later books) again any time soon.
We had the whole Cinderpelt/Cinderheart possession/rebirth situation in PoT/OotS already as well although that one was some time ago now and is still quite intriguing in terms of future possibilities, in my opinion.
But yeah, please no "Mapleshade possesses *picks "random" cat instead of a protagonist or major character* Gullswoop" (or something like that) shenanigans any time soon.
Mapleshade has been overused at this point.

I think possession can be brought back but it shouldn't be a DF cat. TBC was very clear that DF cats don't have this power, it is one reserved for Starclan cats, who are clearly far more powerful in mystical terms. But it shouldn't be brought back anytime soon. Maybe if we get some huge escalation like a time travel or multiverse arc or something (not necessarily endorsing that either, just an example) then it could be brought back.

Due to the importance made in the Broken Code and the mysterious happenings so far in a Starless Clan I think Dark Forest possession will play a huge role in this arc. I’m pretty sure this is Mapleshade’s farewell arc so she will have a big, destructive part to play before she is destroyed for good. I for one am looking forward to this because I love the paranormal so anything dealing with the warrior cat afterlife is right up my ally.

I honestly think that’s a good au idea. Mapleshade is much more interesting than Ashfur in my opinion. But yea, a possessive Mapleshade AU would be a very cool idea, like maybe possessing one of the ‘used to be’ dark forest trainees. Like Breeze’pelt or Ivypool to get her revenge.
In all, it’s a very cool concept!

No. I don’t have any interest in possession returning ever in the future. And if it did I’d probably throw hands. It’s intriguing conceptually, but has been executed with such inconsistency, and the rules regarding possessing has been changed by the writers like 3 or 4 times now?. That I genuinely never want to see it return.

While I'm a bit tired of Mapleshade appearing, I think it could be an interesting story if it was a side story. Like a novella, super edition, or just something that isn't connected to the immediate main series. And also if the character that's possessed isn't a leader, but a warrior trying to blend in with the every day life.

I wish the possession plot line never existed at all and hope it is well forgotten and abandoned for use in future books.

It'd be interesting, but we just had an arc with that and it's been established that Dark Forest cats don't have the power to possess bodies (unless perhaps there's some StarClan influence that forces them to, but that's just a theory) either. I'm also impartial to Mapleshade as it is since it feels like she's been shoehorned into most evil stories now.
