Redwillow, he confuses me and I want to write something about him and why he was driven to join the Dark Forest but i am drawing blank thoughts every time. So, I've come to steal yours.

Yes, he confuses me too! Maybe he got sent to the Dark Forest because he chose to fight for the DF in the Great Battle?

The weird thing with Redwillow is lack of consistency. In TFW, he is shocked at the idea of turning against his own clan when Ivypool suggests it (particularly about abandoning kits/elders/sick cats), but then in TLH is all gung-ho at the idea.
I guess you could say he just “got worse” between books, but I think it’s more likely that the Erins forgot and picked a random name out of a hat when deciding which DF trainees would turn on their clans.

This is why I want content focused on the other Dark Forest trainees. I wanna know why they all joined and especially what drove him to support the Dark Forest.
I headcannon that he wasn't clanborn and joined when he was almost apprentice age, assumed to be the son of a kittypet, possibly even kin to Jacques or Susan. He was judged for his soft background, especially after all the trouble those kittypets gave ShadowClan. His mentor and the rest of his clan tolerated his existence but he never felt truly part of the clan. Flametail was his closest friend and when he died in Night Whispers, he was left without any support system. He dove into training because he enjoyed the newfound loyalties he made with the other trainees. When TLH happened, he chose to fight for the side that he felt actually cared about him.
