I see so much hate about certain characters around these forums, so I decided to create this thread as a place to share positive thoughts about characters, even if they're controversial, without people expressing hate for those cats.
Bonus points if you can do it about a character you hate.

I used to really love Squirrelflight. Her snappy, rebellious and cocky, fiery personality as an apprentice was relatable and the dynamic between her and Brambleclaw was enjoyable to read about in TNP & PoT. And her few on-screen genuinely fantastic moments of her being a good foster parent to the 3 are great. I even felt for her after secret was revealed. Never excused her actions or thought she was in the right. But I understand where she was coming from, and she was young and impulsive at the time so wasn’t incredibly judgmental on her. I thought she was a pretty good deputy in BrS and was honestly rooting for her and Brambleclaw to get back together. And thought with them both being older, more mature and having mutually shared experiences would make them stronger as a couple moving forward. Especially given the sweet, adorable scenes we got with them in BrS manga and TAQ bonus scene. Unfortunately what made her such a awesome character as apprentice/teenager makes her insufferable as an adult. She’s the equivalent of someone in their 50s, leaning towards early 60s. Yet still behaves like late teens/early 20s child that has been spoiled by their parents since birth and think their the hottest thing on the planet. and has never been made to take responsibility for her faults, and makes the same immature mistakes because she’s been allowed too.
For what it’s worth. I’ll always have a fond nostalgia for early days Squirrelflight. But the mixture of her never really growing up, and the fandom excusing every single action, and adhere to the notion that’s never been at fault. Has gradually pushed her down on my favorites list to dislike.

Some positivity for characters that are not my favorite or I don't particularly give much thought to:
- I really enjoy Bramblestar as Bramblepaw and even some as Brambleclaw. I think his writing can be interesting at times. My interest in him as a character has reignited a bit in A Starless Clan, where I feel genuinely bad for him and think it's interesting to see the effect TBC had on him.
- Spottedleaf deserved WAY BETTER than whatever the hell Spottedleaf's Heart was. I think she was a genuinely compassionate and hard working medicine cat. She was dedicated to her job and her clan and not even Tigerclaw would stand against her.
- Rownclaw's spectacular failure as a leader is something I find interesting for his character, or just in general for the Warriors series.
- Clear Sky is written great as a villain. I love that we get to have him as a POV.

bristlefrost Madrigal to be fair. My post is 2000%+ more positive then all my other posts about Squirrelflight over the past year. So in comparison it’s positive. And your OP does say specifically even characters people hate. Which even when someone’s sugarcoating a character they dislike with positivity, wouldn’t exactly expect sunshine and rainbows?. Well, what I meant when I created this thread was a thread that was completely negativity-free. I intended this to be a space completely devoid of hate towards characters. "Positive in comparison" isn't good enough.

Onestar is a widely-hated character, but i always found him interesting and likeable. It's incredible seeing what leadership did to him, how he cracks under the pressure and becomes someone new. I'm really rooting for his Super Edition. His relationship with Smoke, Darktail, Heathertail, Mudclaw, how he slowly changes to satisfy his Clan... There are so many topics that could be explored with such a great character.
Also bonus points to Onestar for calling out ThunderClan for their BS in Eclipse, it was really satisfying to read, especially with how self-righteous they were.

I thought Brambleclaw was a pretty cool character back in TPB, TNP, and Po3. I liked him and thought his relationship with Squirrelflight (my favourite character at the time) was good as well.

lionblaze was my favorite of the "Three" and had the coolest power of them. <3 as somebody with intrusive thoughts yessssss. while hollyleaf is my personal favorite i really enjoyed lionblazes arc and struggles, and i was really happy to see a character who wasnt treated like the devil by fthe narrative for having violent intrusive thoughts, while still also being encouraged to work through them. his power was also definitely the most useful for the dark forest battle

I do not condone many of Breezepelt’s actions, and I wish CT was written from his POV too, but in the end, I like that he was given a redemption. Even before CT, I thought the Erins would try to redeem him (he hesitated extremely briefly before attacking Jayfeather, and at another moment in the Dark Forest was described as kit- like; which I think was foreshadowing that while he was on the path of cats like Brokenstar and Tigerclawstar, he wasn’t there yet).
I like him as a character and can relate to growing up with emotional neglect and realizing a large part of his life was a lie. He reminds me a little of Hollyleaf, both went down dark paths and did bad things, but both got redemption arcs.
Again, I don’t like or condone many of his actions. I haven’t caught up to TBC yet, but Breezepelt is one of my favorite characters, and probably always will be one of my favorites.
I also love Lionblaze! I love how much he has grown and matured from his apprentice days, he was my favorite of the 3 when I first read POT and I liked his POV the most. He’s also one of my favorite characters.

Honestly Dovewing's arc is pretty realistically written and in particular what happened after she lost her powers is interesting: compared to Lionblaze and Jayfeather, Dovewing didn't exactly have much of a chance to acknowledge who she was outside of her power, and you can see how she struggles in Bramblestar's Storm. In my opinion she's one of the most relatable out of the three and I'm glad that she's found her comfort place in-canon.
