I'd like to talk about something that has been on my head for the past few days: Stormfur's behavior towards Feathertail in ASiR. First of all, and just to clarify, I've never liked Stormfur; I found him annoying and kind of a hipocryte back in TNP, and imo his relationship with Brook started out badly and then became a huge meh. But something that I never denied was the fact that he was a good brother, or at least that's what I thought back then, until ASiR arrived... While I was reading ASiR, I expected to see Stormfur acting like the loving, empathetic and protective brother he was back in Midnight and Moonrise, but what I got instead just annoyed the hell out of me. Where did that Stormfur go? I could only see a selfish and insensitive cat that didn't support his sister in any panel of this novel. He was only in the mood for protect Feathertail when it came to physical damage, but when she really needed his emotional support, he was never there. All of this reminded me of those moments in TNP when Stormfur was telling Feathertail off for loving Crowpaw, even though he was also in love with a she-cat from another clan (and later ended up with Brook). I mention this because he doesn't seem to care when his sister is clearly traumatized, but he's willing to talk when she's in love with someone. Maybe he wasn't that empathetic after all. I'm not saying that Feathertail was always right, but that doesn't mean her anger wasn't valid and didn't deserved her brother's support. Stormfur was the one who saw his mentor getting killed, he should have been much more understanding.

Wasn't it somewhere in the first half of TNP that Stormfur himself says he felt like he never fit in with RiverClan, or something to that affect? I could just be misremembering things, but ASiR could have worked better if it were from his perspective assuming I'm not wrong. Or it was a shared story between Feathertail and Stormfur.
Anyways, he could have been more understanding and it would have been great for him to be more there emotionally, but I don't think just because he's her brother he owes her anything. He's got his own life to live.

He's got his own life to live. Well, according to Feathertail in TNP, Stormfur wasn't good at making friends. But then again, in ASiR he was always hanging out with a lot of RiverClan cats. He often got easily frustrated with her for not being able to forgive as quickly as him, and for not being sociable enough according to his criteria.

Being sociable doesn't mean you can make friends, though.

Yeah, this was the main reason I didn't really like ASiR. I felt this manga should have been from Stormfur's POV and fit better with his character, from what we saw in TNP.

He was not a good brother in that regard during either ASiR or early TNP. But I still like Stormfur regardless although I do prefer his sister Feathertail over him. He was also revealed to not have felt truly at home in RiverClan later on though however (in Tawnypelt's Clan and Graystripe's Vow as well) so I do think his story and character could have been written better in that way and that he would have benefited from being portrayed differently (more understanding/supporting) since he felt similar to his sister. His characterization in Feathertail's book was not very consistent with his portrayal both before and after this Graphic Novel even got released. Which is a real shame because I loved the scene of him being bitter about the Clans to his father in Graystripe's Super Edition as it showed similarities with Feathertail being angry at RiverClan and Leopardstar before she actually forgave them.

Stormfur is another victim of the inconsistent narrative that comes with writing stories about the same characters ten years apart.

I feel like Stormfur has always been a little emotionally deficient and awkward, particularly coming to more delicate situations. And I don’t think he was trying to be callous or unsympathetic towards Feathertail’s plight. I think he just didn’t know exactly what to do to help her work through it. And it’s a possibility that many of his own insecurities and fears were reflected in her, and being more empathetic, supportive and giving rationale to her uncertainties would of given affirmation to his own, which probably wasn’t something he wanted. When it seemed like his coping mechanism was simply forget and bury the hatchet, let bygones be bygones etc, and continue living his life and attempt to find his belonging in Riverclan. One of which was being sociable and attempting to form friendships, and make his life seem as typical and normal as possible. But as others have pointed out, just because he was sociable and seen hanging around a lot of cats in ASiR doesn’t necessarily mean he made many meaningful friendships.
And correct me if I’m misremembering here, but as I recall Stormfur never berated or belittled Feathertail for having feelings for Crowpaw, but merely advised it was unwise to act upon them, which is reflected in his initially not pursuing a relationship with Brook. It’s not until the second Journey to the lake when the clans are passing through the Tribe to find a new home that he decides to stay with Brook, which by that point his Sister, mentor and Mother are all dead , and his father is presumed dead as well. And we already know he didn’t feel he belonged, and his sister was probably what was keeping him anchored to hope that one day he would. But after losing his sister and than father, there wasn’t anything to fasten him to the clans anymore, so he decided to build a new life somewhere else. Just a thought.
I think ultimately they both had shared insecurities, and Stormfur wanted to support her, but different methods of coping with their feelings made them somewhat estranged during that period.
