By the fandom, Firestar is generally perceived to be of average height, even below or just slightly above that. While I have also seen a few people interpret him as a "buff fluffball" in some fanart, it was more of an exception and not that common to see.
In canon, Firestar gets described as smaller than the bigger cats in the first arc such as Tigerstar or Blackfoot but this could be because of his still young age at the time since he was apparently only around two years old when even becoming leader of ThunderClan and could also just refer to him in comparison to cats who just happen to be bigger than him regardless. Then, in the second arc, he briefly gets described as a "powerful warrior" or something along the lines of it by Brambleclaw during the start of Midnight. Now, powerful can either refer to him as a leader or his appearance, which given that Brambleclaw mentions his "broad shoulders" (or again something along the lines of it) it seems to be the latter. He also got shown in Graystripe's Adventure as a cat of average height but then later appears in Ravenpaw's Path and all the following Graphic Novels including him, as a seemingly large tom. In A Shadow in RiverClan and Winds of Change as well.
Finally, the most recent example and also why I'm making this thread, is when his spirit shows up during TBC as a StarClan cat to help Rootspring escape the Dark Forest by possessing him and while doing so he apparently comments that Rootspring's body was too small for him. But wasn't Rootspring implied to have grown into a huge cat during the second half of TBC though? With him being a descendant of The Sisters, most of which are said to be even bigger than Bramblestar. Just how big exactly is Firestar himself supposed to be?!
And I might just be totally wrong about this since I have not actually seen a quote of Firestar saying this exact thing and do not own a copy of ALitM myself to check or other books from the arc (waiting for the paperback box set to come out probably this October). My information and source is from a Youtube review of the TBC finale so if anyone has the actual evidence of that scene, feel free to post it on this thread.

I seem to recall somewhere in either OOTS or PO3 that he was described as "massive". Could be wrong though. Personally, I always imagined him to be a little bigger than the average cat, but not cat hulk.

I imagine him being tall more than anything. The fandom likes to headcanon him as smaller than Sandstorm, but I honestly don't see that. I see him as tall and muscular, he's bigger than normal, but not big like Tigerstar or Bramblestar.

"This body was smaller and fluffier than his own, and pain throbbed in Rootspring’s wounds. Firestar would have to make the most of the young warrior’s strengths to compensate for his injuries, but as he shifted his weight, he sensed power in the muscles beneath Rootspring’s pelt, and lightness of movement in his limbs."
Here is the quote. And for reference, Rootspring's size comes from these lines in DW
"He could see clearly now why he and Tree seemed different from their Clanmates, larger than other warriors, broad where their denmates were lithe."

I think the exact size of warrior cats characters vs other characters half depends on who they want to seem big tough and cool at that moment tbh

To be fair, Tigerstar came from a line of ThunderClan leaders, so he was probably larger than most cats in the Clan.

I see Firestar as being tall, broad, and muscular- basically a pretty healthy cat but not massive like Tigerstar.

I'm honestly one of those people who headcanon him as being pretty small, smaller than Sandstorm. Since he was born a kittypet, I always imagined him to be smaller and leaner, and not as muscular as clan born cats. I'm pretty sure he's a big cat in canon, though.

I know Firestar is described as big in the books, but I always pictured him as average-sized, erring a bit on the leaner side.

I always imagined to be pretty average on all accounts: [ official art work of firestar ] Like... he doesn't seem 'massive' or 'fluffy'. He just looks like an average cat haha
