As I reread TBC and Spotfur's rebellion, I found a weird inconsistency. In Lost Stars, Brambleclaw's illness is referred to as making him very cold multiple times. Stemleaf compares his temperature to snow and Alderheart points out how crazy using borage on Brambleclaw is when that is for lowering temperature and Brambleclaw is already cold. However, in The Silent Thaw and Spotfur's Rebellion, a very different picture is painted, as it is called a fever multiple times and Spotfur can feel his heat when standing near him due to how hot he is.
Which version of the illness do you prefer?

I prefer Bramblestar having had a chill over a fever before he was properly possessed by Ashfur.

I prefer Ashfur having a chill as it fits in with the whole winter thing, and the cold aura of ghosts and the DF.

Agree with Ṣanɗypaw™. Cold is associated with both the deep freeze of winter and the dead. I imagine Bramblestar to have been as stiff and cold as a corpse, as if one paw was already in the dying world, not hot with fever.

I don’t actually remember, but isn’t the reason Shadowsight put Bramblestar in the snow because he was hot with fever? That's the reason in Spotfur's Rebellion and The Silent Thaw, but in Lost Stars, the logic is different "Hope and confusion warred in Alderheart’s eyes. “Why borage?” he asked. “We use it to reduce fever. That’s hardly necessary right now.” “It might sound odd,” Jayfeather agreed, “but Shadowpaw was right about one thing. The longer Bramblestar stays in our den, the more chance there is of his temperature dropping so quickly that he might never recover. But if we gave him something to make him colder... Would that spur him onto get better, the way Shadowpaw suggested? The way the deathberries seemed to trick Puddleshine into getting better.” When Alderheart didn’t reply, he added, “It’s got to be worth trying, right?” As you can see, Alderheart specifically refutes Bramblestar having a fever, hence why he thinks that using borage is pointless. Jayfeather's logic (and Shadowsight's presumably) is that maybe if they lower his temperature even more, it'll somehow make him better. Shadowsight earlier talks about his logic too, and while he makes comparisons to a wildfire, it's clear from his analogy that he views the snow exposure as being more of the "wildfire". "“Bramblestar’s illness is like a—a wildfire. It can’t be snuffed out with treatment. It has to be allowed to burn out on its own.”"
