anyone else also super angry and annoyed that it was willowshine who died and not mothwing?
this just proves their needless reluctance to kill older characters...it's just annoying how they keep killing the younger cat over the older cat. this is just a recent, large example of this problem.
willowshine is much younger compared to mothwing--even though willowshine is older than lion and jay and she herself is what i consider "old," but still-- the point is, she's younger than MOTHWING, and that alone should have made her live over mothwing in this arc. WILLOWSHINE Should have lived to train frostpaw. not mothwing.
idk what this series' problem is with killing off older characters as the series goes on. i've made numerous test lists and majority of the clans would be 100% ok in numbers if all the cats from the first 3 arcs died off!

Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary have always been too Softhearted , and known to get waaaaaaay to attached to a lot of these characters . Guess they’d Rather Just keep old established characters then develop new ones , Laziness can be the only culprit i can think of. i agree...i also think it's plain laziness...plus the team of editors arent any help either (they make up so many mistakes and inconsistencies). i understand being attached, but this is ridiculous at this point. i love jayfeather and leafpool, but i accepted leafpool's death and didnt want her overstaying her welcome like the others in her generation. and when jayfeather and the rest of the arc 3 cats go? i'll be relieved to finally move on and focus on the younger cats. idk why the writers who are in charge of this stuff can't think this way too.

But I feel she at least Cared enough to try to make things connect consistently, and keep characters consistent as well. Feels like a lot of characters have become a lot more bland , and have been drastically dumbed down in the books published after she left . And while I do agree in Letting the older Generation Go and focus more on the current generation of cats . Sadly I don’t have any faith of them actually developing the personalities of the younger cats , to fill the void of removing the established ones imo.

I personally don't care, because I want them both to go, but I can understand completely why others would be annoyed.

They probably did it because Mothwing isn't as likely to be willing to go into the Dark Forest. maybe if they actually showed some growth, mothwing would go despite not wanting to because she's older and more wise or something, but nope...sigh...

yeah, the team's desperate grip on the older characters is disappointing and pretty transparent, too. i feel as if there's an obvious lack of trust they have in the fandom to grow attached to new characters, probably because they figure seeing familiar names on the book jackets will make for good sales. heck, i bet that's why they're giving flamepaw the firestar-centered arc. and this has gotten worse as the series has went on. spiderleg was old and graying in the last hope at 6 years old, and now we have characters far older than he was that are still spry and kicking. i hadn't thought about it until now, but deaths in the series actually did become rarer and rarer after vicky left the team. i love mothwing, but why can't frostpaw's mentor be willowshine? why can't we refresh the lineup of our deputies and medicine cats every one in a while? I would say less that they Think the Fandom wouldn’t be able to grow attached to new Characters , I mean seriously some people grow fond of characters that have a mere few pages of Screentime , so there’s no problem there . More like the ERINS (Cherith and Kate ) which are obviously biased as hell, can’t let go of characters they’ve been writing about for 18+ years now . And yeah Victoria Holmes never had a difficult time killing off characters , because unlike Kate and Cherith , she doesn’t share a passion and love for cats like they do . So she’s never Grown nearly as attached to them as Kate and Cherith baldry , plus her favorite Genre is Suspense/mystery and Criminal novels which is heavily reflected throughout the first 2 Arcs, before Harpercollins started bringing more hands on deck to start rolling out as many books as possible for the sake of money . And since Victoria Holmes isn’t there anymore , keeping track of characters established personalities , and making sure they get written consistently .Kate and Cherith Baldry sadly have butchered some cats other the years since , because of there personal opinions/bias towards them (squirrelflight,Dovewing, brambleclaw,Bumblestripe , and many others that have changed drastically without explanation.) . And obviously Victoria Holmes made mistakes as well , she was far from perfect . But IMO she did a far better job then whoever is editor nowadays .
