One glaring issue I've noticed with the newest series, The Broken Code, is that the relationships between cats seems to fall flat because of lack of interaction between characters or even in the mind of characters. Or some just don't show emotion when something happens to a cat they're close to. One issue is that I feel some relationships from past arcs aren't explored like they used to be. Both of these things I've noticed.
An example would be Lionblaze not bringing up anything from past arcs while fighting/arguing with Tigerstar. I feel like something about the kinship they thought they had or maybe their friendship from arc three would've been mentioned but nope. Even a nod to it in the narrative of the books would've been neat, or a passing thought from a protagonist. These two have had a rocky relationship and they used to be friends. I feel like there's so much more the Erins could do with them!
Another example would be how Bristlefrost really doesn't interact with her littermates much. It makes it genuinely hard to care when her sibling leaves to go for a wander, especially since she immediately gets over it and goes back to her duties when Squirrelflight snaps at her.
Thornclaw leaving ThunderClan without much of a care for Blossomfall is another thing. She doesn't offer to go with or even show much that she cares aside from looking worried for a few moments. She doesn't even get up to question his choice. That whole scene seemed out of character for both of them.

Lionblaze was never friends with Tigerheart. That only lasted as long as they were “kin” and their relationship ever since then has been nothing but poison. His opinions on him seem to be about the same as Ivypool’s, he even grumbles about her being a traitor when he sees her.
If the only relationship they ever had was fake kinship, it is clear why he would not mention it

I feel like each book would be way longer and dense if they took into account every character interaction properly. This is the problem with having tons and tons of characters and only having ~300 pages per book to get across a coherent plot.

While I somewhat agree with these battle cats no longer having properly established relationships in the newer arcs, Lionblaze made it very clear at the start of OotS that him and Tigerheart were no longer involved with each other because Lionblaze and Jayfeather had been facing a lot of backlash from the other Clans for their real heritage of being Half-Clan which made them weary of interacting with anyone outside of the Clan that they were born in. This all happened early during The Fourth Apprentice when a Gathering was taking place and Tigerheart was noted to look a little disappointed as he had eye contact with Lionblaze who only regretted it a bit but ultimately decided to end his acquaintance with Tigerheart completely. I'm certain that they were never real friends and instead just kind of close due to them thinking that they were related. So him and Tigerheart/star not acknowledging each other as such during TBC is completely fine in that regard.

I feel like this arc is a lot more plot-focused wich is why not many relationships are getting developed.
