βI think it makes you an amazing person,β Felix mumbled, allowing his verbal filter to fall for a time. If he was allowed free reign in Casimirβs head, he figured the least he could do was be as honest with the boy as he could. Honesty didnβt come easily to him. He looked into the minds he was supposed to look into, found the weaknesses he was supposed to, and shared what he was instructed to. Never before had his opinions on anything been consulted. Never before had anyone cared what he had to say or what he might want to share. Casimir was the first, and Felix found he wanted to let him know exactly what that meant to him.
βI think youβre very wise,β he added after a moment, hugging his knees to his chest. He didnβt mean to insult the people who kept him, butβ¦ they werenβt like Casimir. They were there to punish people who they felt deserved to be punished. Sometimes Felix looked into the minds of the worst sort of people - those who were cruel, who sought the downfall of a kingdom for their own ghastly means. Other times, he saw the hearts of the best people, the ones who would lay down their life to protect those who cared about, who cared more about others than they did themselves, who were willing to sacrifice for the good of the world. More often than not, Felix found himself among those who were neither good nor bad. Those who were a mixed bag and could choose which path they would go down, if they were to have a future in which they could choose.
Casimir wasnβt perfectly good - there were few who were - but that made him more important, in Felixβs mind. It meant that he choices he made to be kind mattered.
βYour thoughts are kind,β he whispered, forcing his gaze back up to meet Casimirβs. βEven the ones you donβt intend to think.β
βRight,β Talys replied, but they couldnβt shake the feeling that Ewan was just trying to make them feel better. If they had been in Ewanβs place, they would have been annoyed with themself. The most frustrating part was that they didnβt have a reason they couldnβt hold a weapon. They knew there was one buried deep within their head, but there were memories they had forgotten for a reason. Memories they didnβt have the energy or ability to dredge back up and sift through to understand why holding a weapon had felt physically painful. They just had to trust that Ewan would be able to keep them both safe.
βI can also probably throw a mean punch,β they added, trying to offer Ewan a smile. They werenβt sure it came across, but they knew they were doing the best they could do. There was no more that could be asked of them. βI even know that you shouldnβt tuck your thumb in when you make a fist, cause that will break it. Althoughβ¦ I think I might know that one from experience.β
