[ My post length honestly varies a lot. It really just depends on what's happening, how much muse I have, etc. the post length doesn't really matter to me cx ]
The man holding Anna suddenly let out a sharp cry and dropped like a stone. She gave him a dazed look for a moment and was shocked to see an arrow protruding from his chest. She gasped, too surprised to do anything else, and stumbled back. How ironic it was that this was everything her father had been training her for, only to be unable to apply any of it.
Once they came to the realization they were under attack, most of the bandits had hastily cleared out. One man, however, was very aware of the fact that he would likely never have another opportunity like this again. He sprang forward and tugged Anna's arms behind her back, once again restricting her movement. "She's either leaving with me, or she's not leaving alive." He yelled out into the forest, assuming that her defender was one of the guards from the castle.
He held the girl in front of him like some kind of human shield. Anna struggled uselessly, and let out a frustrated scream. At a height of barely five foot three and with a petite build, she wasn't exactly the most formidable foe in physical combat. She stared out at the trees, desperately trying to catch sight of the shooter. Could a guard have followed her? Or what if it wasn't a guard at all, and they were simply planning to kill them both?

Bugs are attacking my moniter aaaaa))
'Damnit..' Atticus was hoping he wouldn't have to get too involved with this situation. He wasn't really fond of killing others, even if they deserved it. But it seemed like he had no choice now. He reached for his quiver on his back and grabbed another arrow. He stepped out from behind the tree and took a few steps into the clearing with his bow readied, aiming it at the bandit in case he tried anything. 'That's just great' he thought, annoyed that the other man was using the girl as shield. She was short enough so that he could get an aim at his head, but one false move with the bow and the woman would be the one with an arrow in her skull.. He gave the bandit an icy glare and spoke with a scathing tone "Let the girl go or I put an arrow between your eyes." The thief hoped the threat would be enough to spook the bandit off. He didn't want to shoot now, it would be to risky.

[excuse the short post, i didn't have much to say ]
Lapis Aquila - Forest
Lapis eventually made it into the forest which had been outside of the castle's walls. His armor clanged a little as he walked, however he had grown so used to it that it didn't faze him. He walked a small bit off the path, because he wasn't in any hurry and wanted to enjoy some bits of this beautiful day. He kicked some twigs that were underfoot as he lifted his head to stare up at the tall trees surrounding him. Nature truly was beautiful.
However that ended all to soon. Previously surrounded by silence, now Lapis had heard the voice of a man. It was in the distance, and he wasn't too sure what was being said, however his instincts began to go a little wild. Lapis gripped the glaive that was strapped to his back and he began to pick up his pace to walk towards wherever he heard the voice.
As he seemed to edge closer, the smell of blood hit his nose.

[ Eek I hate bugs. There was a wasp in my roommate's room earlier and we died ]
The bandit met Atticus' eyes. "Oh, really? Would you risk hitting your precious princess? Just imagine what the king would have to say."
The bandit continued to speak to Atticus like he was one of the king's guard, but Anna was positive she had never seen him before. Sure, there were many different guards to keep up with, but she was positive that Atticus' face was a face she would remember.
Regardless of this realization, she wasn't going to make it obvious. Whatever was on this stranger's agenda, it wasn't killing her. That much was obvious when he hesitated upon seeing Anna's current human-shield circumstances. While her captor was busy taunting Atticus, Anna locked eyes with him.
On. Three. She discreetly held up three fingers and mouthed the words. Shoot.
One by one she put down her fingers down and dropped down as low as she could. The man's grip on her arms kept her from going too far, but it definitely gave Atticus a clearer shot.

'Princess?' his eyes widened in shock. That woman was the princess? What was she doing so far in the forest? Atticus quickly pushed the thoughts away. It didn't matter what title the girl held, he wasn't going to let some scumbag harm an innocent. When his gazed locked with the princess's he realized what she was doing. 'Smart girl..' he smirked and aimed his bow at the mans head. But just before the thief was about release his arrow a sharp pain ripped through his middle. One of the bandits who had fled before had snuck up behind hims and plunged a long blade through his abdomen, tearing the blade upwards to to his chest before twisting it sharply and ripping it out. Atticus let out a strangled cry of agony and stumbled, letting go of the bowstring as he collapsed to the ground. Luckily for the princess the arrow went straight for her captors head, right between his eyes.

Lapis Aquila - Forest - Anastasia
Lapis had began to run as he heard the yelling begin to sound louder and louder, when suddenly he heard the sound of air being split- or an arrow being released. By instinct, Lapis quickly pulled out three throwing knives and stormed forwards- ready to fight.
When he appeared the first thing he saw was two men, dead, on the ground. His first thought was perhaps someone already beat him to it, like on of the guards had found these men trespassing. However when he lifted his gaze, his blue eyes met the ones of the princess and his jaw dropped. He quickly put his knives away and released his glaive. He then pulled back his hood, revealing his face.
"Anna? What are you doing out here?" He said walking up to her. He was about to pull her into an embrace, however he stopped himself before so and ended up resting a hand on his shoulder. He wasn't too sure what to think, and his mind went blank when he first saw her. He was worried, extremely worried. And he needed to have an answer.
"Are you here alone?" He asked- voice getting more stern as his eyebrows furrowed with concern.

Anna hadn't a moment to recover once the man holding her fell, because she was met with the sight of a blade quite literally tearing through her savior. She let out a horrified scream and the attacker faced her with wide eyes, the tip of his bloodied weapon dragging in the grass. "If you're not going without a fight, I'm sure I can still get quite the price for your head."
He lunged towards Anna and she took off running, the man following her as she swept in a circle. Miraculously she had caught an important detail when Atticus had fallen: he'd dropped his weapon. And just like that, the princess knew what she had to do. She dropped down next to Atticus, hands trembling, and gripped the unfamiliar bow in her hand. She twisted her torso so she was facing where the bandit was quickly approaching. She notched an arrow and released it, sending it soaring into his thigh. The man yelped in pain and his leg buckled under him. Anna's adrenaline was running on high. She quickly held up another arrow and released it. This time it hit the man directly in the chest.
Once he was out she dropped the bow and turned to Atticus. The greenery was stained red around them. Anna felt lightheaded and like if she stopped for once second she would definitely pass out. Not able to hold back her fear any longer, big tears formed in her eyes and dripped down onto Atticus. "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry. You saved me?" Her words were scrambled and hasty, running over each other. "I'll get you help. Everything's going to be okay."
She swiped at her eyes with the back of her hand and ripped a chunk of cloth from the bottom of her dress. She held it to his wound, but only in a matter of moments it was soaked. She tossed it to the side and ripped off another to have the same results.
Suddenly she heard a voice say her name, and once she placed the voice instant relief flooded through her. She sprang to her wobbly legs and ran towards him. "Lapis!" The man looked at her with careful concern, and she warmed at his touch on her shoulder. "You won't believe it," more tears came with the rushed words, "I was attacked. T-this guy saved me but he got hurt really bad. We need to take him back to the castle."

Atticus barely understood a word the princess said. It sounded so distant because he was slipping in and out of concsiouness. His vision was darkening, the world spinning around him and his breath had become hitched and shallow. He tried to respond but no words came out. Suddenly there was a loud whinny and his chestnut horse came crashing through the undergrowth into the clearing. The frightened creature had heard her owners cry and came running.

Lapis Aquila - Forest - Anastasia & Atticus
Lapis turned his head to see the man she spoke of, and his eyes widened. I'm sure I've seen this man before... However, he sucked in a deep breath as he moved his hand from Anna's shoulder to the top of her head. He smiled and ruffled her hair. "Everything's going to be okay." He slowly pulled away and walked over to the man. He looked about the same age as him, however had dark hair- pulled back, and he looked quite tattered. Lapis also noticed the blood pooling out of him. He quickly ripped off his cloak and bent down next to the man.
Once you're conscious, you're going to be undergoing quite the questioning... Lapis frowned once again as he ripped, wrapped, and tied the cloak around the mans wound. He then cracked his knuckles, while scooping the man from underneath and tossing him over his shoulder. The man surprisingly wasn't too heavy, and was actually a lot more thin than he looked.
Lapis turned around to face Anna when he suddenly heard the sound of a horse neighing and running up to the two. Lapis cocked his head as his face had gone from concerned to confused. What exactly is going on here?
He then faced Anna. "We need to head back right away if you want this man to survive... Are you wounded?" He asked while staring into her eyes. Lapis could see how shaken she was, and he honestly felt so bad for her. She shouldn't have been alone. He blinked and turned away while staring at the trees. I don't understand.

Anna jumped when the horse entered the clearing, not sure how many more "surprises" she could take. The animal seemed anxious, and had to belong to either the man who saved her or one of the bandits. Regardless, she wasn't going to leave it alone in the forest to die. She moved carefully towards the horse and held out a hand to pet her face.
"It's gonna be okay." She murmured. She wasn't really sure what good those words were going to do for a horse, but they made her feel better, so maybe it would do the same for it as well. She took a hold of the reigns and lightly tugged them, hoping she would follow.
"I-I'm fine." She stammered in response to Lapis. She was covered with blood, but she was pretty sure none of it was her own. Though she wouldn't really be certain of anything until they were back inside the safety of the castle walls. "I'm so glad you found me," Anna said quietly as they walked back through the forest. "I just wanted to go to the market. It was so stupid of me. I should have told someone, at least you..." She trailed off, not wanting to cry again and make even more of a blubbering fool of herself.

[ hey guys, i'm going to go to bed, it's around midnight here lol. should be on tomorrow though! ]
Lapis watched as she grabbed the horse's reins and began to walk. He followed her in silence, letting her talk as he stepped on dead leaves and sticks. The forest really was beautiful, however it's awful to think that someone could be in here waiting to attack. He adjusted the man who he held over his shoulder and continued walking next to Anna; staring at her as she spoke.
"It's okay." He told her. It really wasn't. What she was saying was true, and that she should've told someone. However Lapis felt the need to comfort, and all his usual teasing had escaped from his brain. "How about we go tomorrow? After we figure out what's going on with this man..." He said glancing up at the man he held.
Lapis saw Anna's eyes begin to water once again, and his eyebrows furrowed in a frown. Even though he does enjoy teasing her, he always hated it when she cried. Not to mention, when they were children and he made her cry, he'd get the worst of it.
He felt a small, sad smile crawl upon his face and this time he knew why.

[ I should probably go to bed too, considering it's 3 am here xD what is life ]
Anna let out a humorless laugh. "I think it's safe to say I'm never leaving the castle again."
Her eyes rested on Atticus and she felt her stomach drop. He was still losing blood fast, and it was all because of her. "Lapis...I don't want him to be treated like a prisoner, okay? He was trying to save me. I know he was." She said this in her no-nonsense princess voice, giving him a serious look. "Besides, even if he wasn't on our side-which he is-he wouldn't be in any shape to fight back."
She sniffed and pressed a hand to her throbbing forehead, sticking close to Lapis, grateful for his comforting presence. He was always there when she needed him to be, and once again he'd come through for her. And here she was barking crazy orders at him. "Gosh. I'm sorry. Just trust me, okay?"

[ hey! i'm here, sorry if I'm poofy. ]
Lapis Aquila - Stone Walls - Anastasia & Atticus
Lapis let out a small, but soft laugh as she mentioned never leaving the castle. He knew that wasn't going to last very long. Anna had always been so carefree, but wanting to escape the hands of the guards, and the queen. He knew that because as a child he'd be the one sent out to find her. Lapis averted his gaze once he saw the stone walls coming into view.
He then began to speak again. "Even if he was, we still don't know what his thoughts were on the whole thing. Plus, why was he so close to the castle in the first place? He may not be imprisoned, but we will need to question him." Lapis glanced at the male he held once again, staring at his unconscious face, Lapis wasn't too sure what to think.
"It's alright." He stated. "It is my job to look after you, princess." He said, while walking through the gate to enter.

[ I'm here, but I'll probably be poofy as well ]
Anna bit her bottom lip. He was right of course, but she was adamant about protecting this stranger.
"Sure it is," she said in response to Lapis' last statement, giving him a smile that accented the dimple in her left cheek, "But I could probably make it easier."
By now they had reached the main gates of the castle wall. Unsurprisingly, guards quickly surrounded them. "What is the meaning of this, princess?" One of the guards asked, wary eyes trained on Atticus' unconscious form.
Anna cut right to the point. "I was attacked by bandits in the forest. He saved me and was wounded in the process. I want him to see our best healer immediately." The guards talked among themselves for a moment. They were trained to follow the orders of the princess, but only if they believed it wouldn't go against the wishes of the king. Finally, they decided.
"Of course, your majesty. At once." A guard relieved Lapis of his burden and gave the duo a nod before heading off towards the healer's home. Anna let out a sigh of relief and leaned against Lapis. "I feel like I'm going to pass out. I need to tell my father what's going on."
