Who here has a story that they've been developing for literal years?
Er, I've been developing two sets of stories that I've had ever since I was eight years old. Not even joking you. I can't even count the amount of times the stories have been altered and changed, along with the characters. It'd take hours just to tell you the changes that the two stories went through, and I can nervously say that I'm actually kind of proud of my dedication.

I do. I've been working on my main project about six years this October. My writing style's adapted so much over the time that I've been constantly rewriting.

I've been writing an ongoing anthology for just under five years. Started it December 8, 2011.

54 currently, though two of them are less than a year old (the rest are a minimum of two and a half years old)
edit: the cat in my avatar is actually from my oldest surviving story (his name is Thunder)

Me. The longest story I've worked on is the one for my oc, Twisterheart. I've been developing her story pretty much since I created her back in 2009. I think I've finally come up with a story that I like for her, but I haven't started writing it yet.

I've been creating one for about three years now, still in the planning process though. I have another one I've been developing on and off again for maybe five years now, but it's more for fun rather than something I'm serious about.

about four years ago I started a book, and it became a series, and I ended up having 4 books, but over those four years, I had touched them over and over again but....they still sounds like crap XD so that's why two months ago I deleted all 4 books XD

Hey, I have to ask, seeing as we're on the topic- how much have all your stories changed?

I've a children's book that's near completed but I've never had the guts to make it more than it already is. Some day, maybe. . Other than that, I'm developing one plot idea right now. Though, it's pretty recent.

Same for me. I'm thinking that won't be for a while, though, given how much I rewrite it over and over.
Good luck with yours, though! I hope you get there.

//raises hand//
started in 2013. Still working on the outline...after a lot of failed/abandoned writing projects in the past, 14-year-old me promised myself that I wouldn't start writing without an outline. It's gone through an overhaul, though, especially recently. Went back to the beginning of my outline and realized how...lacking the main plot was. So I had to go back to the drawing board, knowing I wanted to keep specific scenes and events.
so it's been working out for the best

I abandoned mine as of two years ago (I started working on it in second grade) The writing was too old, the plot had started to make less and less sense the older I got and I just gave up. I stopped writing because I hated everything I did with it. I haven't picked it back up because I have so many other things I need to do first.
There were some pretty major changes. It went from a tiny little paper for school that was three paragraphs long of description to a fullblown story with drama and romance and death.
It's got a young boy struggling with depression and an ice unicorn. That's all I really have to say about it.

the basic stories have not changed, but I've added a lot to some of them Sometimes it's best to be kind of similar, isn't it? yeah like there were things missing for sure and some things got changed because they didn't fit/make sense/etc. but there was a reason I made the story the way it was the first time there is one that changed dramatically, but that's because I didn't know what direction to take it for a long time and basically had a working plot so I could get the characters ready

I have a webcomic I'm working on developing, and possibly turning into an animated series someday (that's just an unrealistic dream, but hey I can hope, right?) This specific story has changed quite a bit, however I haven't been working on it for very long. (A few months, maybe? Definitely not years, but I have other stories that have spanned the course of years before being abandoned)
