"So you are Lucas!" Becky exclaimed, delighted. "Lucas, it's me, Becky! Becky Conlon!" She explained. Impulsively, she threw her arms around him in a tight hug, taking care to avoid his injuries. She was overjoyed at finally reuniting with the only person she was ever allowed to consider a friend. He had been taken from her so suddenly. "Where have you been all this time, Luke?" She asked. "And how are you still alive?" She bit her lip. "I thought...I thought you'd been killed by the Council's purge. And my father did nothing to help. I saw him order it, the slimy toad!" She scowled at the bad memory.
Her dark blue gaze brightened once more when she turned to look at Lucas, and she finally pulled back from the bear hug, acutely aware of how different things were. 10 years had passed, and they had both grown up. But however she looked at it, he was still the Lucas she had known and treasured. All of a sudden, she felt a rush of relief that she had made the right decision. She couldn't imagine the guilt she would have felt had she turned away Lucas after so long, without even knowing it was him.
She had more questions to ask, but at that moment, there was a knock on her door. She raised a finger to her lips to silence Lucas before moving to the door. She opened it just a crack, to see a guard outside. "Sorry to bother you, Young Miss, but I heard a noise out on your balcony. I just came to check if everything was alright." He said with a crooked grin. Becky groaned internally. These guards were all the same - power hungry and despicable, looking for every opportunity to gain favor from her or her father. "It was nothing." She told him curtly. "Now you may leave. I don't want to be disturbed."
The guard's grin didn't waver in the slightest, like a cheshire cat. "Come now, I would be deathly worried, if something was to happen to our cute princess..." He drawled, reaching out to touch her hand. Becky cringed at the contact and swatted his hand away. "Enough. I'm okay. Now leave." She said shortly. The guard's grin finally flickered, but even he wasn't stupid enough to defy her. He would find another way to gain her favor. "Yes, Young Miss." He muttered, taking his leave. Becky closed the door behind him, resisting the urge to slam it, before she made her way back to Lucas. "Sorry." She grumbled. "These stupid guards...They know how things are between me and my father, so they take all sorts of liberties with me..." She explained. "Life here hasn't exactly improved since you left."

Lucas winced as Becky pulled him into a hug. He hadn’t been expecting it, and while she had avoided his injuries, he did have older ones on his body that hurt as well. “Let’s see… I’ve been a little bit of everywhere because I was trying to avoid trouble. We both see how that turned out.” In addition to the wounds she had just treated, he had a few bruises scattered across his back and chest as well as some scars from older wounds that had already healed. “I’m alive because I fought like hell to remain alive.” His body was evidence of that. “I’ve got better words for your father,” he said sharply. “And I never really liked him.” Lucas winced again as Becky released him from the hug. “Why did all this crap have to happen?” he asked softly. “I was still a kid – one who had to grow up too fast.” He dropped his head, overwhelmed with the memories of having has family and friends taken from him. “I can’t help what I was born as. It's not my fault.” He buried his head in his hands, mumbling these things to himself despite the pain he felt from bending over.
After Becky gave him the signal to be silent, he nodded once and sat still on the bed, careful to not make any noise that would make the guard at the door suspicious. While she had welcomed him into the house, he had a feeling that others there didn’t share the same feelings about him. The conversation made him cringe, but there was nothing he could do about it. After she closed the door, he let out a sigh of relief. “They’re filthy animals,” he said bluntly, refraining from using stronger words. Lucas had always had a foul mouth, but he had toned it down around Becky because he was told to. Ladies don’t use those sorts of words, he had been told, and he had obeyed the request because he hadn’t wanted trouble. “I don’t think ‘left’ is the right word,” he said, recalling the night he had been forced to leave the estate. “Still, I can see that life hasn’t gotten better.” He paused before asking, “Would you happen to have a t-shirt I could wear? Mine’s destroyed.”

"I'm sorry..." Becky said softly, laying a hand on his shoulder. "I tried to stop him, but there was nothing I could do at the time. I don't have any real power here. I..." She let out a small sigh. "I hate it here. I want to leave. There's nothing for me here. But as you can see, that's easier said than done." His request broke her free from her thoughts. "Oh yeah, sorry." She said with a small chuckle. "I do, but they're probably too small for you. You can go ahead and try though." She said.
She walked over to the dresser and rifled to the bottom of the stack. Her father disapproved of t-shirts. Said that they made her look too manly. But Becky would have none of it, and had whisked a few in, to wear when she was alone. They were certainly easier to move in than the stuffy dresses she was usually forced to wear. Of course, they were her size, so they would be quite small for Lucas. She rifled through the meager selection of shirts, and finally settled on a plain white t-shirt that looked to be the largest shirt she owned.
"Here you go." She said with a small grin, tossing him the shirt. "That's really the biggest I have. I suppose I could try to sneak something from the guard's quarters, but that would be risky. I'm not even allowed out of my room right now, since I tried to escape a couple nights ago." She explained. "Because I'd be darned if I was going to stay here for the rest of my life." She sat back down on the bed. "I'm 19 for pete's sake! There's a whole world out there I haven't seen!" She complained, laying back. She then turned to look back at him.
"Sorry, I know you've had it way worse than me." She said. "It's just frustrating to think of everything my life could have been, but isn't. Anyway, you're welcome to stay here as long as you want, as long as you're quiet and promise to stay in this room. If anyone else finds you, you'll definitely be turned over to the Council for execution. This manor isn't exactly vampire-friendly." She then gave him a small smile. "Thankfully, you picked the balcony of the only person who would have helped you here." She said, poking his side teasingly. She then blinked. "We'll have to share the bed." She mused. It wasn't too big of a deal for her. They had done it all the time as kids.

“I’m not blaming you for anything that he did, okay,” Lucas said, lifting his head to look at Becky. “You were eight or nine at the time. There’s not much you would’ve been able to do.” As she spoke, he listened and slowly nodded. He didn’t say anything, knowing that he couldn’t help her while he was hurt. The likely outcome of confronting anyone on the estate would be his execution.
Lucas caught the t-shirt with his left hand, finding that his left side didn’t hurt as much as his right side did. He looked at the tag on the collar and snorted when he saw that the shirt was a small. It was going to be too small – he could tell that by looking at the shirt – but he preferred to give it a chance. He didn’t want to be bare-chested – revealing his tattoos and wounds – unless he absolutely had to. He pulled the shirt on, though there was some wincing involved as he moved his right arm. The shirt was clearly too small for him, and he only wore it for a moment before taking it off. “It’s not gonna work. And don’t worry about stealing one that’ll fit. I’ll be fine without one.”
“I see that some things haven’t changed,” he said, smiling slightly as she mentioned sneaking out. “You never did like obeying the rules that you found stupid. I’d like to say that those rules are there to protect you, but we both know that’s bull. You’re capable of handling yourself. You managed to kick my [butt] quite a few times when we were younger.”
Lucas nodded slowly as Becky stated that he had it worse than she did. “Life doesn’t turn out the way you expect it to,” he said simply with a shrug. “And I’m not [flipping] stupid,” he said, letting the swear word slip out. After it did, he remained silent before continuing. “I’ll keep quiet and stay in here, unless I need to get outside to, uh, you know.” It certainly didn’t seem like a wise idea to make meals out of people at the estate. “And that’ll need to be soon. It’s been a while, and it might speed up the healing.” He jokingly shot her a glare as she poked his side before wincing. “Wrong side to poke. Hey, if I had picked a different balcony, I would’ve been shot before I passed it. It might’ve been considered a blessing. Of course, I’m glad that I wasn’t.” Oh yes, the sleeping arrangement. He might have protested had he been younger and not as desperate to sleep on a bed. “That’s fine with me, though you’ll probably want me to take a shower first. I’ve been outside for who knows how long.”

"I'll say." Becky responded with a raised eyebrow. "You certainly didn't mind letting a little girl beat you." She smiled to show that it was only in jest, but quickly sobered at his next comment. "No humans." She told him sternly. "There are deer in the forest and cows at the ranch if you need to feed. And if that doesn't suffice, you can take my blood, okay?" She didn't mind being his food source if it meant keeping him alive. "Also, stay clear of the west side of the estate. That's where my father's offices are. Not much gets by him. Not even dashing young vampires." She said the last part with a teasing grin.
"I wish I could say 'welcome home', but this isn't really a home, per se." She sighed. "But well, welcome." she chuckled. "This has certainly been an eventful night, so we should probably get to bed soon. You'll need your rest if you're going to heal up." She gestured towards the smaller room adjacent to hers. "The shower's in there, feel free to use it. This room is the only room in, so you don't need to worry about anyone coming across you." She told him. "It may get boring being cooped up in this room all the time, so I'll bring you some books or something to keep you entertained when I'm not here." Already, the girl seemed to be brightening at the prospect of having someone to talk to who didn't judge her on her status. She didn't have any actual friends now, since even her schooling was individual. "As long we keep it to that, you shouldn't worry about the Council here. They leave us alone." She told him. "So rest easy for a bit."

“If I recall correctly, I did mind that you beat me. I was just too embarrassed by that to talk about with anyone, even with you.” Lucas smiled at the memory. When compared to what he had just been through, being beat by Becky in a fight was nothing. He would gladly take being beaten by a girl in a fight over being hunted like an animal. “You won’t have to worry about that,” he said seriously. “I haven’t had a human in ten years.” The transition to animal blood had been pretty hard for him, but he managed. The first years were the worst, but at least his family had been around then. When she offered her blood, he shook his head firmly. “No. I don’t need your father becoming suspicious if you have scars on your neck or wrists. That could be just as bad as running into him.” And speaking of her father… “Got it. Avoid the west side unless I want to be executed.”
“It’s the closest thing to home that I’ve had in a while, so let’s consider it home,” Lucas said, glancing around the room before standing and crossing it to get to the bathroom. He stood in the doorway and nodded at the mention of being brought books. “Bring some paper and a pencil too. I never really did like reading.” He stood there for a few more seconds, feeling as if he were forgetting something. “One more thing… Where’d you put the bandages? These are gonna get soaked in the shower, so I’ll need some new ones. And, thank you for helping me. I’m not sure I would’ve made it any longer on my own.” He found it ironic that he found shelter at the estate where he wasn’t welcome (as a general rule – Becky was the only exception).

"Ah, right." Becky said, quickly getting back to her feet. She dug under the bed for the first aid kit, soon locating it among the various trinkets and other items she kept hidden under there, and took out some fresh bandages. "Try not to use too much." She warned him. "If we run out, I don't know when I'll be able to get more, seeing as I'm basically under room arrest right now." She placed the bandages in his hand and smiled. "Don't mention it. We're friends, after all! Just because a decade has passed, nothing's changed. Now go and clean yourself up, Mr. Stinky." She stuck her tongue out at him playfully before letting him go.
While he would shower, she had some time to think on her new situation and how best to go about things now. Her room was quite soundproof, so her guards wouldn't notice as long as there weren't any loud noises. Normal conversation would be no problem. And even if they did come, Becky normally kept her door locked, so there would be time for Lucas to hide before she answered it. The main concern would be when he left her room to go hunting. It would be bad if anyone found him going in or out of her balcony. But she could trust him to be stealthy and err on the side of caution.
Once she was free to go about the manor again, she could get him all and any supplies that he needed to live as comfortably as possible in one room. The next couple days would probably be the shakiest, since her movements were somewhat confined. But if they could get through that without a hitch, then they wouldn't have any issue after that, as long as things stayed on track. Becky nodded, satisfied with her mental planning. The girl liked to keep organized, even for small situations, and having everything planned out helped to keep her grounded.

Lucas nodded once as he took the bandages and rolled his eyes as she teased him. While she had covered every wound and used plenty of bandages, he wasn't going to do either. He decided that he would cover the most serious of his wounds - the ones on his side, chest, and leg - and leave the others uncovered. The others weren't so bad, so he felt comfortable with not covering them. He set the bandages beside the sink on the counter before taking off his clothes, almost afraid to see how much blood was on them.
Lucas stepped into the shower and turned the water on before adjusting the water temperature so that it was warm. Once he was satisfied with the temperature, he stood still and just let the water hit his back as he let out a sigh of relief. He stood like that for a solid minute before reaching for her shampoo and body wash. While he might have normally complained about having to use products with traditional feminine scents, he decided to keep his mouth shut about this. Becky had already helped him enough, and besides, there wasn't anything she could do while she was confined to her room.
After about ten minutes, Lucas shut off the water and stepped out of the shower. He had caused some of his injuries to start bleeding again, so he took care while drying himself off to not get any blood on her towels. He quickly bandaged the worst of his wounds, being careful to use as little of the bandages as possible. After that, he put on his clothes. Even though they were bloody, he was not comfortable going without them. Before going back into her bedroom, he took a good look at himself in the mirror. Dark circles were present from his lack of sleep, but he doubted he would be able to get some even though he would be sleeping in a bed. His dreams were more like nightmares that replayed every [crappy] thing that had happened to him in the last ten years.
He finally stepped back into Becky's bedroom and crossed it to the bed. Without waiting for her to speak, he crawled into it on one side as he made sure to claim a pillow. "Good night," he mumbled, hoping to fall asleep quickly and avoid the nightmares for tonight.

(Sorry for the shorter reply!) Becky sat up as soon as he exited the bathroom. With eyes as sharp as ravens, she could spot the dark patches of fresh blood among the dried blood on his shirt. "You reopened your wounds, didn't you?" She began sternly, only to have him plop right down on the bed. She sighed. He could be such a pain. She knew that from their childhood. "Good night, Lucas." She said affectionately. She turned off the lights and double checked that the door was locked, before turning in herself and falling asleep. The next morning, Becky had gotten up bright and early. The girl was an early riser by nature, and she enjoyed the peace morning brought, where she didn't have to worry about being ushered from event to event. She checked on Lucas's wounds the best she could, and was satisfied when she saw that his wounds were healing nicely. She hopped into the bathroom for a quick shower, before walking to the balcony. The view from her balcony was quite grand, with miles of field and farmland surrounding, along with the forest. She let out a small breath, enjoying the crisp morning air as the sun hung lazily in the distance, casting dim, but brightening rays over the land.

(It's fine ^^)
Lucas' only response to Becky was a grunted "maybe" and mumbled "good night." Like he hoped, it only took him a few minutes to get settled and fall asleep, but like he expected, he didn't sleep through the entire night. He woke up a few times throughout the night because of nightmares - or, as he sarcastically referred to them, the best moments of his life. Every time he woke up, he made sure to not disturb Becky and get comfortable again so he could fall back asleep.
Once morning came, Lucas remained asleep after Becky woke up. He rolled onto her side of the bed, appearing to be at peace and quite comfortable on the bed. He soon woke up, but he remained in bed as he took a mental breather to go over everything that had happened the last few days. Once he did that, he got out of bed and joined Becky on the balcony. He didn't say anything to her. Instead, he leaned forward on the railing and took in the peace of the morning. It was almost unsettling for him because almost every other morning for the last ten years he was worried about something.
Even though he didn't have a shirt on, the cool morning air didn't bother him. In fact, it felt nice, and it was a nice contrast to the heat of the day. "I can't believe I'm back here," he finally said, still looking ahead. "With all the sh-stuff I've been through, I would've never thought I'd be back here. This whole situation is [flipping] ironic." He paused after the swear word slipped out. Trying to use a filter was harder than he initially thought it would be.
