So I finished reading Squirrelflight's Hope last night. My kids need huge kudos for not spoilering me, but Leafpool! Oh Leafpool!!!! *cries* One of my favourite surviving characters down. If she had to go though, I thought the way they did it worked well; the moment she started saying how she felt at home in Star Clain I realised her time was up, but it was still a very powerful moment when it actually happened. I might need a bit of time to get over this one....! As for Larksong though, the moment he did his "I can't wait to meet my kits and give them badger rides" speech I went "Oh no, he's a gonner"... Good to see him and Flickerkit happy in Star Clan, along with so many other familiar faces. Extra points for Mousefur getting an apperance. Plot-wise in general, I enjoyed it more than the other Super Editions I've read so far (Firestar's Quest and Tigerheart's Shadow). That might be because it was nice to be back with a Squirrelflight pov - I missed the shift from her and Leafpool to the next generation with Alderheart etc. I've got the rest of the Super Editions to read through now, so that opinion might change as I go through. Looking forward to it. As a side note, this feels like nitpicking, but has anyone else noticed that the editing/proofreading in some of the latest Super Editions has been on the sloppy side? In this one, in the first few pages there was a "Leafpool" where it should have been "Leafpaw" in a flashback scene, and then later on there was "Leafstar" when it should have been "Leafpool". There were several little bits throughout with extra words where there shouldn't have been (repetition of had for instance) and it's particularly annoying when you're really engrossed but then get thrown out of the action by an error. I totally get how hard the editing/proofreading stage is, (I write for a living) and there is *always* something that gets through, however many times you read through, but I don't remember noticing as many instances in the earlier books and wondered if anyone else had noticed the same, or if I'm just being a grumpy old elder....! Thanks for reading me waffle!

I liked the idea of the plot but didn’t enjoy the relationship between Squirrel and Bramble, it felt like they were both accusing each other too much. I also expected a bit more of a conversation about Firestar when she was held captive with Leafstar, it could have been a great way for Leafstar to be a “wise advice giver” and help Squirrel understand her own problems better (through Firestar advice sort of). My least favorite part was the StarClan chapters (23+24?) and the whole trial thing, Bluestar clearly said in OotS#5 that (about Ashfur) “it is not StarClan’s place to judge him” ”if he found his way here, then he must deserve to be here” so why judge Leafpool and Squirrel? they found their way there big time. It also had some great comedic moments with Mousewhisker’s wind conversation and the prologue “ruling the forest” conversation. I enjoyed it but much less in comparison to Tigerheart’s and Crowfeather’s.
I don’t think that’s nitpicking. It annoys me as well and I think there was also one time they wrote Strikestone instead of Scorchfur.

Another thing that bugged me in the StarClan chapters was the seeming continuity issue from Tigerheart's Shadow. When Tigerheart is "dead", he's told that he can't go and see the rest of the cats in Star Clan etc because it's not his time to die yet. Whereas in SF's Hope, she and Leafpool get to wander around and spend all that time with old clan mates etc. Which makes for lovely reading, but doesn't fit with what Tigerheart was told. My son just suggested that perhaps there are different rules for ShadowClan in StarClan, but I'm not entirely convinced...! On the Leafstar front, I really want to warm to her, but since SkyClan arrived at the lake I'm still not feeling the love. A scene like you described there would have really helped with that I think. I'ts annoying, as I really liked her in Firestar's Quest. And yes, can't forget the wind conversation!

Welcome! Great to see a fellow writer! Spoiler warning isn't necessary though since the book is more than a year old already. This SE is one of my least favorites for a variety of reasons (though Bramblestar and Squirrelflight's relationship is a major one), but it's good you enjoyed it. Leafstar, Tree, and Sparkpelt were really the only cats I cared about in this book.

I personally strongly disliked this book, but Leafpool's death hit hard and I thought it was very nicely written.

I'm finding that ploughing through the WC books has been a good way of keeping sane this year what with one thing and another - also helpful when avoiding a writing deadline too! And thanks for the heads up on not needing to flag spoilers for an older book; I was erring on the side of caution as still finding my feet here, so all tips are gratefully received. The Bramblestar/Squirelflight conflict and their relationship in general didn't really ring true for me either, which was a shame. It's always good to see Tree, and it was nice to get some more of his backstory! I felt so sorry for Sparkpelt, I'm hoping she has a nice storyline in the next series - fingers crossed! Need to go and raid my daughter's book shelf now to pick another SE to read. The first three TBC books arrived today ready for my birthday in mid October (present from the kids, that they can't wait to get their hands on ha!) so I'm having to be really good and not peek. The suspense might be getting to me a bit...

I've yet to actually get anything done though, and the most I've written concerns this one fanfic for an entirely different fandom I've been working on for basically all year.
