Do you think that Bramblestar's body is going to slowly rot/decay and fall apart? Like a zombie in The Walking Dead?
I don't think Bramblestar is ever going to go back to his body. Unless the Imposter is just not being hygenic...? It would be interesting to see the Imposter be defeated and they give Bramblestar a proper burrial and his real spirit shows up to make peace with everyone before going to Starclan at last.
I also personally don't WANT him to come back. He's been "dead" for a while and no one knows if they even can get Bramblestar back into his own body...so if the body rots like in my theory/headcanon, then Bramblestar will have to accept his death and move on once the Starclan problem is fixed.

It seems fairly dark, but knowing warriors, anything is possible.
If the scenario (as in Bramblestar stays dead) you describe ends being the case (which I pretty much think it will be), I wonder who will take over Thunderclan? Especially if they whack Squirrelflight as well?

I would at least want Squirrelstar to be a thing for a while, but if she dies before getting nine lives, then it's gonna be Lionblaze and Bristlefrost.

I'm gonna bet by chance it's slowly rotting from the inside out as the arc goes on since he's technically still dead. As haunting and dark and out there it sounds, this series arc again has had so much freaky happen I'm not surprised if they have his corpse grow old and fester and leave Bramble with nothing to properly go back to.
Ofc, it could just be the imposter is super unhygienic, but I like the creepier option more because it really gives an actual sense of urgency that the plot's trying to induce regarding Bramblestar.
I, however, as stated in the past, don't want him to get back into his body though. Because if it is festering and rotting, that's gonna be a whole thing to bullshit out there and is NOT something you can make go back to as if nothing happened all hunky dory so easily.

it would be really cool for warriors to get into more spiritual stuff. the body only lives if the soul it's attached to is it. doesn't that happen with real life human possessions where the body gets messed up by demonic possession? would be similar here, but bramblestar actually DIED as in he lost one of his 9 lives. reanimating a corpse would automatically lead us to assume the body SHOULD be decomposing, right?

I really want this to happen but I doubt the editors will go for it.

The impostor's been using the body for a fair amount of moons now, and it doesn't appear to be showing any signs of decay. Unless the impostor is removed from Bramblestar's corpse I doubt it'll start rotting or anything like that. Though, we've seen that the impostor can leave the body at will. Who's to say he just won't leave it to rot after being imprisoned? If the Clans had a sense of urgency like others have said, I think that'd be a neat addition to the plot.
Though, I think the impostor knew this might have happened, hence why Bramblestar needed to be put out on the moor in a den of snow to keep his body as cold as possible before the impostor actually possessed the body, to avoid it decaying.
Personally, I don't want him to return to his body, so the arc actually has consequences. Bramblestar's a great guy who's been through a lot, I just want him to go to StarClan in peace. (But not before he has some role in killing the impostor)
