Say you were charged with writing TBC from the start. You have to follow a plot similar to what we've seen so far, but you're allowed to pick whoever you want to be the impostor. Who would your ideal impostor be and how would they impact the story? Or would you just stick with Ashfur? (Assuming he is indeed the impostor, but tbf he's all but confirmed now lol.)

Honestly? Ashfur. I think Ashfur is the best option.
Edit: alternatively, a code of the clans cat. But a very clearly set up one. Maybe he can talk with archaic speak about clan nonsense lol

Maybe Ravenwing. I wouldn't have him neglect the elders, or do anything that would be breaking the code. I would still have him go after the code breakers though ALL of them. I think it's fitting, because he got killed, just because he told his leader about a code-breaker.

The identity of the imposter is not that important to me; I'd be fine with almost anyone as long as they drive the plot well. Ashfur is fine.

I'd rather it stay Ashfur, but if I have to change it, I guess Hawkfrost would be the only answer.

Ashfur. If I could change somethings around though? Snowtuft. Give him an interesting backstory and I think he, or any other DF cat with no backstory, could serve perfectly in the impostor role.

I know Ashfur is the popular choice, but I'm not too sure how to feel about that. Kind of just neutral and wanting to keep my options open. That said, if I had to pick someone then I'd go with someone like Hawkfrost? I can't recall if he was permanently killed off or not, though. Been ages since I read The Last Hope

Ashfur and, if not him, Mudclaw. #MudclawDidNothingWrong
How can anyone blame him for revolting against Onewhisker. He lost his deputyship for no reason or fault of his in a second via a claim made by 3 random people out of nowhere

I'd keep it to Ashfur tbh, especially to revert the massive F-up of letting him into Starclan in the first place.

A gestalt abomination composed of various spirits all jumbled together. One part Ashfur, one part Mudclaw, one part Oakstar, etc. The Dark Forest's collapse in Squirrelflight's Hope led to the afterlife itself being damaged, and so cats who were "in-between" to begin with end up melding all together, the lines being blurred together.

Stick with Ashfur, just don't make it so obvious. I wouldn't tell the readers any details about the imposter until the current book where Shadowsight confronts the imposter in Thunderclan camp as a ghost. At that point I would reveal that the imposter is a male and has blue eyes. That's it, nothing more. I also wouldn't have included the hints about being worried about Squirrelflight or the ash parts from Shadowsights visions.
If I had to pick a new cat it would be Mudclaw, which also would have been a great choice.

Sol. Ashfur's core reason for doing all this doesn't lead to destroy all the clans. Who the heck wants all of society to burn just because of some woman's rejection? Too big of a leap even for a crazy person. He never had the ambition. I only accept Ashfur as the imposter if it is someone better like Sol being the mastermind behind it all and just using Ashfur like a puppet.
Since Skyclan is new and they had focus in the last arc, make them the target in TBC. Sol as the imposter, would target Skyclan and then spread it to Thunderclan and Shadowclan, and Windclan and Riverclan would be last since as I remember, Sol was mostly involved with Skyclan, Thunderclan, and Shadowclan in the past. Sol wasn't super lazy, but he had just the right amount of manipulation and skill to do it since he controlled Shadowclan, found Midnight and got info from her, etc.

If I had to change it, then there would be all sorts of evidence that Bramblestar was replaced by an evil impostor, but it's actually just him. Bramblestar really is that awful of a person.

If I had to pick a new cat it would be Mudclaw, which also would have been a great choice. But acting like an overly dramatic drama queen is Ashfur's character. This is the guy who unironically waxed poetic about his blood running out like he was quoting his deranged manifesto, it would be odd to drop all of that characterization.

I would pick Sol, because when he left he said he would return to destroy the clans. What better way than from the inside out? Also not only does he have a problem with ThunderClan but he also has a problem with SkyClan. Most of the bad guys don't really have a valid reason to not like all the Clans as a whole, but with Sol he has a problem with multiple clans. With that being said I could see the actions of the impostor better reflecting Sol then Ashfur.

I’d stick with Ashfur, but I would have a mastermind behind it all, that being Sol
If it couldn’t be Ash, then definitely Darktail. Yes, he would be a very recent villain but would be perfect for the role imo

I wouldn't mind sticking with Ashfur but that's a less fun answer to give so. SkyClan Darkstar. No one suspects a bitter old man from Code of the Clans!
