I wasn't sure how to feel about her in SqH, but I really didn't like her in TR. What are your thoughts on her?

OOF. I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS ;p Y'all know I ramble.
Okay, first off, I feel similarly about disliking her in TR. Hell, I didn't like her in SqH, and I was caught off guard by the shipping (mostly on Tumblr and dA) between her and Squirrelflight. Folks wanted Squirrelflight to go from one bad relationship to another??? No, thanks.
We rag on bad parents like Rainflower and Crowfeather all the time, but Moonlight really takes the cake, imo. At least Crookedstar and Breezepelt had other cats to turn to. They had mentors, friends, and other loved ones that cared about them and defended them (though that still doesn't invalidate their experiences, of course). What Tree went through, on the other hand, is an entirely different level of messed up. He had nobody on his side. Moonlight was terrible to him. I don't care if she masked it as it being for his own good, because wandering is supposedly in his nature. I hated the scenes where she was all "motherly" whenever he told her how scared he was, and how he didn't want to leave the Sisters and be alone. Her reassurances and entire disposition just seemed so...insincere? Or maybe sugar-coated, for the terror she was putting him through? I'm not sure what word to use. I just find it very hard to believe she was concerned for him at all. It's even mentioned how she doted on his sisters, yet was distant from him his entire life, so it's not like this was a new development as he got closer to being forced out of the group. She neglected her son to the point where he was touch and emotionally starved. I also felt he was completely right when he thought about how ridiculous she sounded when she explained they didn't allow exceptions because of one case years ago, which could have literally just been a coincidence with the bad winter they had. Even her reaction when those rogues attacked was horrible! She was only concerned about Hawk, and was like, "A good Sister could have died looking after you." ...Like yeah, but also, YOUR SON COULD'VE DIED, TOO? I'm sorry, is Tree suddenly immune to getting hurt from fox, rogue, badger, etc. attacks now? What the hell?
It isn't just Moonlight being cruel, either, but all the Sisters. I'm all for respecting others' spiritual beliefs and stuff, but where do you draw the line when aforementioned beliefs include being intentionally neglectful toward kids and other vulnerable people who depend on you? What they do to their young toms is just cruel. Sure, some toms like Chestnut and Snail are excited to wander, but then there are those like Tree, who aren't. He definitely wasn't ready to be on his own, and could barely hunt for his own food, much less defend himself. For Moonlight to abandon him while knowing that was awful. I felt so bad for him throughout his entire book, and my feelings toward Moonlight soured even more than they did in SqH.
We've had a lot of backstories about cats wanting to belong somewhere, but it never felt quite so potent until I read TR. I wanted to give him a hug, which was not a reaction I expected to have when I first began reading it. The poor guy was emotionally neglected all his life, up until he was abandoned. What Moonlight did to him was abusive -- yeah, I'm throwing that word out there. I can't blame him for never wanting to forgive her.

Bleh, is the best way I can put it. Mayflower said what I feel on her now way better. Also I really regret shipping her with Squirrelflight even a little now x.x
Like, she didn't deserve to die, but... yeah she wasn't... good... I felt so bad for Tree.

Mayflower, I couldn't have said it better myself! The entire Sister culture is really cool in concept—a group of mostly females with a sixth sense—but just the blatant detachment Moonlight has towards Tree made me really uncomfortable, and I'm glad he was able to feel a parent's love in the form of Root, even if for a short while. I almost wish he'd gone with Pebbleshine or had been allowed to join ShadowClan. He must've been lonely for so many moons, and part of me even now headcanons that he may see Leafstar as a bit of mother figure, if only to give him someone to look up to.

im a dumb butt who thought TR meant Tallstar's Revenge oops
Moonlight is a weird character and I don't even like the concept of the sisters in the first place.

On one hand, the Sisters fascinate me. On the other hand, they're awful, and I hate them lmao I mean, we all knew that them casting out their toms was terrible, but to see it firsthand from the POV of one of the toms really makes it hit differently. Ohhh, don't even get me started on Root and Tree. I loved that Root was so awkward about subtly wanting Tree to stay, then how happy Tree was when he realized Root had changed his mind about them splitting up. Tree legit just wanted somebody -- anybody, really -- to stay with him, and for it to be his father, when he never had a parental figure who actually cared for him, made it even better. Of course, then his reaction when Root died almost made me cry, because apparently I'm weak to this stuff lol that scene later when Tree saw Root's spirit hit me right in the heart. It makes Tree and Rootpaw's relationship that much sweeter, but especially with how close they've grown over the course of TBC. I love that Tree named his son after his father, who was the only one who cared for him when he was younger. The Erins really got me there. I love the idea of Tree seeing Leafstar that way. She is everything Moonlight wasn't, and god knows Tree deserve that much!

I've just started this book, so I can't say much...but she seemed pretty cold towards Petal as opposed to Snow, which was messed up. I didn't much like her in Squirrelflight's Hope, and I'm not liking her much now. I understand that this was how she was raised, but her obvious favoritism of she-cats vs toms is just ugh.

At first in SqH my opinion on Moonlight was neutral, but after how she treated Tree, it's on pure dislike.

She's horrible, and I don't like her. I also find it uncomfortable that some people ship her with Squirrelflight.
