*frantically calculates which parents had SEs/novellas and which haven't*
Main characters are Firestar, Leafpool, Brambleclaw, Stormfur, Jayfeather, Dovewing, Flametail, Alderheart, Twigbranch, Bristlefrost, Rootpaw, Shadowsight, and relevant siblings.
Parents are respectively Jake/Nutmeg, Fire/Sand, Golden/Tiger, Gray/Silver, Leaf/Crow, White/Birch, Rowan/Tawny, Squirrel/Bramble, Pebble/Hawk, Ivy/Fern, Violet/Tree, and Dove/Tiger.
Standalones: Fire, Tiger I, Gray, Leaf, Crow, Tawny, Squirrel, Bramble, Pebble, Hawk, Tree, Dove, Tiger II.
No standalones: Jake, Nutmeg, Sand, Golden, Silver, White, Birch, Rowan, Ivy, Fern, Violet.
It's 13:11 Standalone: No Standalone, I wouldn't say every single parent has got one. It's only
barely a majority that have gotten them, and very, very few of those are because they're parents of main characters.
Like, Leafpool got one because she was a rather important parent of a main character, and Crow's, while it doesn't focus on the three, he likely only got the book because he was a parent. Same with Hawk and Pebble. But Bramble's has nothing to do with his parenting, it's just because he was leader post-Firestar. Same with Firestar himself. Also same with Dovewing.
But from that No Standalone list in my spoiler tag, I'd say these guys deserve SEs, and these guys deserve novellas, at some point in the future:
SE: Silverstream, Rowanclaw
Novellas: Jake OR Nutmeg, Sandstorm, Goldenflower, Whitewing, Ivypool
I don't think Birchfall, Fernsong, or Violetshine should get standalones.
Explanation of why I want an Ivy novella:
Zero of her arc in OotS focused on romance, which is great, I love that. But then she got with Fernsong, which, while a happy and healthy relationship, is a little confusing. I would like to see a SHORT book (aka novella) that's simply a little rom-com with one of our favorite female heroes. That's what the novellas were supposed to be in the first place; short stories that had nothing to do with the original plot, and are simply extra content for devoted fans. I would prefer her over Fernsong because I think it would be more useful to see a strong female character that we already know and love making these decisions and thinking hard about them, rather than a tom that we know nearly nothing about pursuing a former protagonist. That would just seem weird.
