Let's just talk about him. Anything he did or said, things you dislike or like about him. Frankly, I find him ridiculous, but I also appreciate his character in the narrative, his massive fall from grace is really entertaining to me. Excited to reread the civil war arc.

Pros:
1. I like how even though A LOT of his clanmates were against him being leader, he didn't buckle under the pressure, or hold a grudge against them. He even ended up giving Tornear an apprentice after the fact.
2. He was able to hold his clan together through The Dark Forest Battle, the flood, the stoats, and maybe more hardships that I can't remember.
3. No one really pushed WindClan around when he was leader.
4. His design is cute.
5. If Heathertail is his daughter, well, she's amazing, so I'm going to give him slight credit for that.
Cons:
1. He's a stupid rotten JERK, who completely threw everything Firestar did for him back in his face. I understand that he didn't want to feel like he owed Firestar anything, but he went OVER the top with being a jerk to him. I can't even count how many times Firestar helped him out, he even lost a life to save his.
2. He broke the code, and had kits with a cat outside of WindClan, and then he goes and just abandons them, because he's afraid of harming his reputation.
3. He took Tallstar's dying wish and just spat all over it. He did the EXACT opposite of what Tallstar wanted him to do.
4. He withheld herbs from ShadowClan, causing the deaths of Kinkfur, Wasptail, and Crowfrost, I think there might have been another cat who died too, I don't remember.
5. He wanted to trap stoats onto ThunderClan territory, and he thought the idea of it was amusing.
6. He attacked ThunderClan's camp out of nowhere in the middle of the night, and got RiverClan involved in that senseless plan.
7. He rewarded a cat who trained in The Dark Forest with deputyship, for the sole reason he trained in The Dark Forest. I love Harestar, but I think it was a bit unfair how he got his position.
I just realllly hate this guy, I'd rather have a spider or a rat as a leader than him.

I understood why he wanted to distance himself from ThunderClan, but did he need to be so cruel and rude about it? The reason Tallstar wanted him to succeed him was so no wars would be fought with ThunderClan and they would stay allies, but Onestar went and broke that wish the very next arc.
Also, he was just unbearable in Thunder and Shadow. Withholding herbs from ShadowClan because he was mad at them, and having innocent cats die? It got to the point where his own deputy and medicine cat went behind his back because THEY knew he was wrong.

He was so sweet as Onewhisker His friendship with Firestar seemed genuine...until he became leader.
He is, frankly, an unbearable cat. He's worse than Clear Sky (before he became Skystar) imo.

I think Heathertail is the only good thing that came out of him as Onestar. And even that was countered by his other child, Darktail

He was great as Onewhisker, but he took his distance from ThunderClan too far.

Even as Onewhisker embellished himself to get with a kittypet and abandoned his son. I guess he was always awful.

Because Onewhisker seemed like this really kind, slightly timid guy, who just let the pressures of being leader get to him...but now, it seems like he was always a jerk? It's really odd.

He honestly was, when it came to his behavior in the first two arcs, before he became leader, I always felt he was kinda a coward, and never really leader material. I thought he was at least morally okay, but that apparently was wrong considering he was willing to let another clan suffer for his own idiocy. The fact that he always turned out to be horribly cowardly was just awful on its own. And I saw nothing heroic about the fact his last words to his son were taunts, not even acknowledgment of his mistakes, or what they could have been. Just overall, he was bad.

He was always deeply flawed and insecure, and that same insecurity that made him want to be a good cat and be seen as a good cat both made him seem so helpful in the first arc and had a horrible dark side that became apparent later on. Remember that we didn't see Onestar that often because he was not in the narrator's Clan, and I find the fact that a cat who seems nice but we don't know that well could turn out to be horrible at the job of leadership, be a worse cat than he seemed and only get worse over time (he did break under pressure, there was some of both that and being flawed from the start), to be very realistic. It's not like Firestar, who we spent every chapter with, had a sudden change in character. It's less like your close friend or family becoming a jerk for no reason and more like some politician who seems nice and charismatic being elected into a position of power and end up being horrible and sucking at it (which is depressingly common and not an unrealistic character derailment).

That actually makes a lot of sense, and it's really sad...do you think he could have been planning to be leader from the start? I know it seemed like he REALLY didn't want to be leader, but he had some skeletons in the closet. Maybe the whole time he was spending with Tallstar, he was actually feeding him lies about Mudclaw, or just making comments about Mudclaw to him, which then, Tallstar just brushed off when he was awake, or he thought about it, but because it was in his subconscious, he had a dream about Mudclaw, and that, and everything Onestar was saying, sealed the deal. I'm aware that this theory is 100% false...but yeah
