I made a thread about Twigbranch regarding her name, and now here's another name that hardly anyone seems to like.
Unlike Twigbranch's name, I really don't like Barkface's. I hated seeing his name in the allegiances, and I was actually kind of happy when he died, because of his terrible name. I don't know if it's his prefix that makes it bad, or the suffix, or how it sounds when it's together, but Brackenwing and Heatherstar should both go to The Dark Forest for strapping such a nice cat, with such a terrible name.
I'm joking about them going to The Dark Forest.
Anyway, what do you think about his name?

-bark is fine, but -face ruins it.
-face is such a weird suffix, i doesn't really sound pretty or cool on any cat, it only really works on one cat; clawface.
and its worse that he's a windclan cat; you know, the one clan know from living away frok trees, therefore, bark.
its just an awkward, weird-sounding name in the end.

That's true, I wonder if his name is supposed to be dog-related? Lol That's my first thought when I think of his name...but it's more than likely not that. They also have a Hickory and an Aspen, which are both trees in WindClan. I agree about face being a weird suffix, Birchface, Brindleface...it just sounds a bit rude, and idk why

Bark is a prefix that can be used for interesting names if used correctly. I don't mind the name, as I know it's meant to be an olden time name. We have cats named Plumstone and Foxleap, they're more aligned with the recent series over cats with -claw, -tail, -cloud, etc.. But focusing on the suffix, I was never found of -face. It makes since with some cats but it seems lazy overall.

The only cat I've liked with the -face suffice is Brindleface lol The other ones sound weird.
Part of that is me being biased, since Brindleface is one of my favs (and now that I write that, I'm realizing lots of my favorite side characters are queens: Daisy, Ferncloud, Brindleface...I obviously have a preference). The other reason is that it refers to her appearance and flows better due to that. Brindle- is a color and -face is a physical feature, so that makes sense to me, as does Clawface (though he's an awful guy) and Lostface (but I hate that name for all the reasons other people hate it).
Barkface and Birchface sound strange, because they seem like random prefixes tacked onto a random suffix, you know? They just don't flow very well.

The worst of the -face suffixes is Prickleface. What was the leader thinking? He could have named him Prickleclaw, Pricklefang, Pricklefur, Prickletail, or literally anything would have been better than Prickleface

MayflowerThat makes sense, was Brindleface even brindled though? I can understand Barkface kind of, because he's brown, and bark is brown, but it's still terrible. *Ottersplash*Prickleface XD I just die laughing everytime I see that name, I keep reading it as Pickleface. I guess it could be worse, his name could be Prickletoe or Pricklenose

I laugh everytime I see her name Speaking of Daisytoe...her sister Flashnose, I think the prefix Flash is pretty cool, but I've never been a fan of the suffix nose. Like, there's this poor cat, who had the terrible misfortune of being named Pearnose. Idk, I just always think of snobs when I see the nose suffix

Mayflower That makes sense, was Brindleface even brindled though? I can understand Barkface kind of, because he's brown, and bark is brown, but it's still terrible. According to the wikia, she was described as a "pale gray tabby she-cat with darker flecks and green eyes." Then for the word brindle, I've always gone by the WordWeb definition of brindle (screenshot of it right here), which lists 'tabby' under adjectives, and google shows images like this under 'gray brindle cat': So I guess she kinda is one? But warriors always uses 'tabby' or 'spotted' or 'flecked' for cats...

MayflowerThat's such a pretty cat! I always imagined brindled as being mottled, but since she is a spotted tabby, then that could be considered mottled.

Honestly, I think they're similar, so your vision of her sounds accurate to me :'D Whenever I think of Brindleface, Ferncloud, and Ashfur, I always think of cats like Egyptian Maus, who are more silver-gray than just gray tabbies: ...is2g, I could look at cat pictures all day 😩 I had to stop myself from adding more to this post lol!

I actually like Barkface as a name though. I suppose it's not THAT bad, if you say it out loud, you have to be very careful about making the K in Bark heard, because Bar so close to the letter f...

MayflowerSame Especially since Ashfur is mentioned to be pale. It's kind of funny, how Ashfur is basically a silver tabby, and Bumblestripe is also a silver tabby, and they're both considered the "nice guys" of ThunderClan I imagine Bumblestripe looking a bit like this but maybe with longish fur like his dad

I like the "face" suffix. I feel like in our language/culture the word "face" has a very silly quality to it ("in your FACE!") but there's no reason that warrior cats would think the same way, if cats can have name endings like "fur, tail, eye, ear, whisker", why not face? So I like Barkface as a name. Same thing with "nose". In our language we associate noses with being silly and snobbish ("turn your nose up", being nosy), but there's nothing inherently silly or undignified about noses, especially to cats who use smell a lot.

Like you said, they're both described as silver-grayish, but I see Ashfur as flecked/spotted, and Bumblestripe with tabby stripes rather than spots! Though I do have the unpopular opinion that Bumblestripe is still cool lol I like his character, even despite what's going on in TBC. I dunno why, but he doesn't bug me...but neither does Berrynose, which I know is also not a shared popular opinion right now ;'p

MayflowerI actually really liked Bumblestripe until TBC, and I never really thought of him as being a nice guy, I thought he handled his and Dovewing's break up, and her getting with Tigerheart reasonably well. I realized something else...Ashfur and Bumblestripe both got rejected for two dark brown tabbies...who are related to Tigerstar lol

I think that "Bark" is such a hard work, that adding "-face" just doesn't compliment it. I don't mind either "bark" or "-face" but together it doesn't sound great. I love Brindleface though because "Brindle" doesn't sound so harsh.

Yeah, Bark- isn’t the best prefix but it’s alright. I hate the suffix -face though, it’s one of my absolute least favorites (which is saying something since I dislike a lot of suffixes).
