I always liked him. A bit too generic for my taste, but I like how he handles difficult situations and seeks an alternative to prevent a chance of unnecessary bloodshed, despite others disagreeing with him. His perspective was relatively fast paced and interesting as a bonus. I always considered him very popular, but on another website I saw an entire page dedicated to hating him. What are your opinions?

I love Firestar, I really like how he always tried to do the right thing for everyone involved. However, he isn't perfect, despite what a lot of people say, he's made mistakes, and showed bad judgement before, an he also didn't ALWAYS do the morally right thing.
Like, didn't he not want to help Whitethroat and Littlecloud, because Bluestar said no, or something?
Also, he forgot about giving Brightheart Icecloud or Foxleap as an apprentice lol.
Anyway...all in all, Firestar is one of the best cats in the series 10/10 stars.

Well, I think the Brightheart thing was the authors forgetting, not them making him intentionally flawed. And he had a point with Whitethroat and Littlecloud, given they had a disease that was so contagious that it had killed half of their Clan, with no known cure.

More than likely about the case with Brightheart. As for the case with Whitethroat and Littlecloud, it still shows that Firestar isn't perfect. But even though he isn't perfect, doesn't mean that he isn't a likeable cat, it just gives him depth

I remember around POT-OOTS when so many people hated him for some reason. But I've always loved Firestar, and he's one of the few characters in any series thats a leader that I relate to. I know people consider him a Gary-sue but his morals are strong and pure but he did have good conflicts in the series like chickenfriedchicken said. He's done things that seem unfair but he's a good cat and a good leader. I miss Firestar greatly, I feel like ThunderClan has fallen from grace without him as leader.

I love Firestar. Firestar basically represents what what makes a good warrior, and he is interesting because of how he contrasts with the rest of the cats who have misguided ideas of what a warrior is. And many of his strengths are enhanced by the fact that he is an outsider.
The Clan cats are known to be very prideful in both their own clan and clans as a whole and much of their culture is rooted in that pride. The clans take pride in the warrior code and the fact that they have their ancestors to guide them. They look up to cats like Tigerclaw, who are physically strong warriors who are proud of their strength and show it off constantly. Even Lionheart, who is one of the least arrogant cats, enthusiastically states the importance of clan legends.
This pride has shown to shoot several cats in the foot. Tigerstar is the most obvious as he died because he let his guard down around a cat he underestimated. Leopardstar also shot herself in the foot as she was too prideful to admit that siding with Tigerstar was a bad idea. Bluestar ended up in her situation because she severely overestimated her ability to cope with the responsibility of leadership and the loss of her family. The whole battle between RiverClan and ThunderClan over sunningrocks was a heap of unnecessary casualties because both clans were too stubborn to let go of a pile of rocks.
Because Firestar is an outsider he is less affected by this pride. He is the first to take Ravenpaw's words seriously because he is not affected by Tigerclaw's reputation. He is the one who tries to help the other clans because, as an outsider, he doesn't feel the same pride in being born in ThunderClan, so the cats in the other clans are important to him as well. He is comfortable breaking the warrior code from time to time because, since he wasn't raised with it as gospel, he sees it as just another rule set. Since Firestar is an outsider looking in, he sees what aspects of clan life are beneficial, such caring for the elders kits, and what aspects don't, such as blindly following Bluestar after she has went insane. Since Firestar doesn't treat ThunderClan as the best clan, he is able to ask for outside help when he needs it; he collected evidence against Tigerstar by asking RiverClan cats and he listened to Princess when she suggested the Tigerstar tried to set a trap for Bluestar at the thunderpath. Firestar doesn't believe StarClan is infallible so he questions them when he thinks they are wrong such as when the allowed SkyClan to be chased out because 'they weren't enough trees'.
Firestar's outside perspective, as well as his own natural humility, allowed him to stop the treachery of Tigerstar in his own clan, prevent wars with other clans, and unite the clans as a whole against BloodClan. Not just ThunderClan, but all five Clans benefited form Firestar's introduction to the clans.
Firestar shows that sometimes having people with different backgrounds and perspectives is beneficial as it helps people to see the flaws in their way of life and it can overall shape a society for the better. This is refreshing because it seems to be a lesson that has reversed itself as the books went on. Books such as Tigerheart's Shadow, for example, flip this on it head as it involves outsiders benefiting from the clans forcing their ways on them because 'the clans are the best'. The clan's arrogance, which was presented as a fault in TPB, is now being paraded as a virtue. Traditions such as 'medicine cats can't have a mate and kits are being upheld despite the fact that these regulations don't need to exist most of the time. It's somewhat frustrating to see the cats behave like the they did in TPB and have their actions be praised because the books aren't self-aware enough to notice it.
All in all, I love Firestar for what the themes his character presented. The contrast between his mindset and the mindset of the other clan cats deconstructs what makes a good warrior and a good member of society. TL;DR:

I've always liked him as a character. I miss him even moreso after Bramblestar's Storm. The books sort of went downhill imo after he died (not counting the Broken Code).
