(( Such drama, I love it. I can see him getting Romi hurt and her being mad at him for betraying her trust, but also being mad at him because he doesn’t care about what happens to the others. ))
Gil visibly relaxed after Sam willingly drank the potion, though he didn’t leave the boy’s side. “Do you have anything else here, Romi? You need to take something, too. What I gave you won’t last long and those wounds will sting.”
As much as Romi loved to brew potions and enjoyed the process, she had a hard time doing so in her small dorm room. She needed more space, better ingredients and less nosy neighbors to make larger batches. “No, that was my only one. I gave one to a fairy who tore her wings a couple months ago and another to that werewolf with the broken jaw,” she sighed, every word causing a strange sensation to spread throughout the side of her face. Not quite painful, but unpleasant, and she resisted the nagging urge to itch at the wounds. She would live, no matter how irritating it was, and Sam needed it more. With all that silver in their veins, they would need some time to recuperate and a little bit of magic could go a long way in helping them heal.
With one hand, she took the empty vial from Sam and set it aside, then rummaged around for a cloth, soaked it in warm water, and set about cleaning the side of Sam’s face with it. He was covered in dirt, probably from the basement floor, ash and a bit of blood. She tried her best to clean most of it away. “I’m glad you’re okay, sugar. If you need anything, you let me know right away and I’ll get it for you.”

(Oh yes. x3 Perhaps it could happen during something the Council wants them to do/under their watch. Like, Xorros still doesn't fully understand why he should be listening to them, and ends up doing something really stupid. XD)
Gil was right about the peppermint flavor. It was probably the only thing that helped him get the stuff down. The whole time Winter was fighting it, wanting the younger boy to spit it out. He hadn't even asked what it did! He just drank it because they claimed it tasted like candy. But it was done and over, and the boy felt no different than before. As Romi began to clean his face, Sam could only stare at her. The bandages were throwing him off, and the young boy couldn't wrap his mind around what could have caused her need of bandages. Then again, he wasn't sure how the their body got to be in the shape it was in either. He wasn't really sure he wanted to know either.
"W-where's Waddles?" Sam asked in response to her offer of getting him whatever he needed. The stuffed, grey and white penguin was always his comfort in times of distress, and they always kept it with them wherever they went just in case Sam were to take over and needed it. Currently, Waddles was sitting on their bed, right where they had left him that morning, propped up in front of the pillows as if waiting for their return.

(( That would be a good idea. He does something dumb, the council gets mad and tries to take it out on whoever is in control at the time even if they weren’t the guilty one, and Romi steps up to take the blame. ))
Romi would have to explain her own injuries to Derek, once the man was in control again. He wouldn’t be happy that she was in such bad shape, but she hoped he wouldn’t be too upset with her. Winter, on the other hand, she wasn’t sure how he would react. Either way, she knew she was in for a serious discussion with both of them at some point in the near future. The thought was exhausting, but it was inevitable. They needed to be informed about what happened when Xorros was in charge—at least Winter did, as the one mostly responsible for the others.
Romi smiles softly and grabbed the stuffed penguin from the bed. “Why Waddles is right here, of course,” she said as she held the animal out to the man, glad that he could at least find comfort in something that was permanent and recurring. She realized that her bandaged face might have been causing him some sort of panic, so she tried to ease any negative thoughts he might have. She brushed her fingers through his hair before she collapsed into a nearby armchair. “I’m okay, Sammy. Just got into a little scuffle with a mean guy. No biggie.”
“We can stay here with you, Andy,” Gil offered.
She waved him off. “No, it’s okay. I think we’ll be alright. If anything happens, I’ll give you a call, but I think we both just need some rest.”
Gil only paused to look at Sam and smile. “I’ll see you soon, Sam. I have to go for a little while. Be good and listen to Romi and I’ll bring you a nice treat.”
The room did feel a lot more empty with the two men gone, but Romi was mostly focused on Sam, anyway. “You feeling any better, sugar?”

(Yeah! They don't understand the premise of DID, or at least not fully, so they assume by punishing the person as a whole works the same as if they just punished the one alter actually guilty. Not to mention, they might not be entirely sue what to think of his mixed linage, so until they know more about it and what he's capable of, they're extra strict and controlling.)
As soon as the penguin was in sight, Sam reached for it and clutched it tightly to him. Again, it was his right hand that did the moving. So far, his left arm had yet to show any signs of movement. His fingers didn't even twitch despite the small amounts of shifting he did to try and ease the aches everywhere else. Now the boy felt safe, back in a familiar place, his favorite toy in hand, and surrounded by people who took care of him. Some of the panic eased from his face as he relaxed. That is, until Gil said he was leaving. Sam was the one who never liked to be left alone. If he trusted someone, then he wanted them in his sights at all time if he could help it. While he trusted Romi a lot, he also trusted Gil and Aries, though Aries didn't seem to want much to do with him like Gil. Gil was big and strong, and the boy thought he could scare off anything that tried to hurt him. So when he started his good-bye, the distress returned. It was only because he knew Romi was staying that he didn't openly beg the older man to not go. It didn't, however, make him any unhappy about his leaving.
As Aries and Gil left the dorm, Sam stared after them until they were out of his line of sight. All the while hugging Waddles closer. Romi's words found their way to him, but he didn't try and turn his head to look at her. "A little," he replied, voice small as if he wanted nothing more to curl up and hide away, which was exactly what he wanted. However, moving wasn't much of an option at the point. "It still hurts."

(( I can see a lot of issues being brought up both because of his DID and his mixed lineage. They’ll probably be super harsh/judgmental just because they don’t understand either and they’ll label him a threat to society. ))
“They’ll be back tomorrow,” Romi reassured the man, reading the expression on his face to be reluctance at their departure. She knew that Sam was quickly growing attached to Gil at the hip, which she wouldn’t have expected at first. It made her happy to see both Sam and Gil warm up to each other, though. As much as Sam wanted the man to stay, they needed to go back to their hotel and Sam needed to rest.
She was worried about the left side of his body—his arm, specifically. He didn’t seem to be moving it much, if at all, and she feared that the silver might have rendered the limb temporarily useless. Worse yet, that it would be permanently damaged. Although her own wounds were likely to leave lasting scars, they wouldn’t prevent her from moving. When he said that he was still in pain, she bit her bottom lip and rose shakily to her feet. She grabbed a blanket from his bed to cover him up with and tuck him in. “I know, sweet pea,” she sighed. “But try to get some sleep, okay? I’ll leave the lights on and you’ll feel better in the morning.”

(( Same, I’m very interested to see where this all goes. ))
At some point in the night, Romi decided to migrate to the bottom bunk and pass out. She didn’t care that she was still in her regular clothes. The moment she took off her shoes, she was out like a light, and it wasn’t until the early evening the she woke again. Like Gil had predicted, she certainly felt the pain now—a sharp stinging that radiated all the way down the side of her face, a burning fire that laced the bandaged areas of her arms. The pain was woke her first, too sharp to be ignored, and she groaned as she rolled onto her side and pushed herself up on her elbows. It took a lot of effort to get to her feet and blindly make her way to the bathroom, but she needed to assess the damage and change her bandages while she was at it.
She didn’t want the others seeing, though. Not now, when she hadn’t gotten the chance to talk to them yet.
Unraveling the bandages around her arms showed deep gashes that were beginning to bruise. No wonder they hurt so much. She did her best to clean them and wrap them back up before she even attempted to look at her face. Even though she knew what she would see and she didn’t regret risking her life to help Winter, she wasn’t exactly thrilled. Taking a deep breath, she decided to just be quick about it. The second she got a good look at her face, she instinctively grimaced. A trio of long wounds trailed diagonally across her skin, nowhere close to being healed, along with a fourth that was a bit shorter. There was no way that it wouldn’t scar. Even so, she didn’t give herself time to dwell on it. She showered, she cleaned her face gingerly and patched it up, then stepped out in her fluffiest pajamas to make herself some coffee.
“Hey, sugar. You awake?” She called, though she wasn’t sure who would be the one to answer. Maybe Sam, but maybe one of the others.

Sleep was inconsistent with the boys, but not to the point where they didn't get some rest. Everyone seemed to have calmed down some while the body took a much need recharge, yet the mind never stopped. Several times furring the night, someone would wake, usually Winter or Derek. Sam had his time Outside and seemed to be fine with staying in his "room" until morning. Which was fine with the others. The less time he had experiencing the pain, the better.
Time did little to the boys at the moment. Normally early risers if they could help it, they had slept through the morning and probably through the evening too had Romi's voice not pulled Derek out of his sleep. "Romi?" He asked groggily, opening his eyes to search for the woman. He found her standing beside him, face covered in bandages. This was the first time he had seen her like this, and worry immediately filled him. "A-Are you okay? What happened?"

From the sound of his voice, Romi took a guess and assumed that it was Derek this morning. She leaned over the back of the couch to ruffle his hair and smile, no matter how much it hurt. “Got into a scuffle with a grumpy old dude. A real jerk. Don’t worry, though, he’s gone now. For good,” she said, in a tone that she tried to make light and teasing. She knew he was going to be worried no matter what, so she figured she would try to make him see that she would be okay. Scarred or not, she would heal. “I’ll be okay.”
Her biggest concern was, of course, Derek and the others. She brushed the back of her hand over his forehead, checking for a fever of any kind. Silver in the bloodstream of a half-demon could wreck a lot of damage. “What about you, sugar? You feeling okay? I’ll make you breakfast and try to find something if you’re in pain, but I don’t want you walking around. You need rest.”

Derek knew better than to believe her explanation. If she truly hot into a fight with just some old dude, Romi wouldn't have been that badly hurt. Orat least he liked to believe so. He never witnessed a time when she used her magic in a fight, but she had to be a force to be reckoned with, right? Yet he pursued the subject no further for the moment as the conversation turned to him.
"I don't feel well," he replied, letting his eyes fall closed for a bit. " My stomach's nauseous, so I don't think I can eat right now, and there's something wrong with my left arm. Romi, what happened?" All he could remember was that Winter had asked to be in control for the most part of the day. Derek and Sam, who wasn't entirely sure why, trusted him enough to grant his request. Now he was waking up in all sorts of panick and pain.

(( Happy holidays, if you celebrate anything! If not, I hope you have a good day! ))
Winter would be angry if she divulged any information, but at this point, she couldn’t think of a good reason not to. Lying to Derek wouldn’t do any good and he deserved an honest answer. With a sigh, she went to turn off the coffee pot and make herself a cup, then took a seat across from Derek. He looked awful, just as she was sure that she also looked horrible.
“Winter and I got into a fight with your dad, Derek,” she said after a short pause and took a small sip of her coffee. It wouldn’t be enough to keep her awake all day, but she welcomed the caffeine. She was practically running on fumes at the moment. “I jumped into the middle of it to help Winter, but I got hurt in the process. He...hurt Winter. Badly. And then I banished him away. Forever.” She carefully left out the part where Xorros surfaced and made Urzilan suffer at his own hands. That was a part she needed to at least discuss with Winter first. For now, this was as much of the truth as she could safely share. “He’s never going to come back. And he’s never going to hurt you or the others again. I promise.

(( Thanks! I had a pretty good day. ))
Romi was all too aware of how angry Winter would be at her for divulging this kind of information, but it needed to be done. She couldn’t look at Derek—injured and in pain—and not explain to him how he got those injuries. “Things didn’t really go according to plan. And it was my idea, so I should have thought ahead better,” she sighed, running a hand through her hair and sipping her coffee carefully. Her jaw ached, but to be fair, she didn’t think her pain was half as bad as Derek’s. “My spell failed the first time. If I had gotten it right, we wouldn’t be so banged up. I’m sorry about that. I thought I had practiced it enough. And I’m sorry I didn’t tell you first. I should have.”

(I'm glad to hear it. ^^ )
"I d-doubt Winter would have went a-along with it had the idea been s-solely yours," Derek said. A part of him felt as if he should be mad with the protector for putting them in a situation that had backfired so, but he just couldn't find it in him to do so. What good would it have done? For whatever reason, Winter thought it had been a good idea, and there was no way for Derek to have known. Nor did he think he could have talked him out of it. He looked up at Romi, two questions burning in his mind at once, and he was having a hard time choosing which to ask first. In the end, he went with, "You said o-our father is gone. I-Is that true?"

Well, the plan had been a group effort. Aries came up with the original idea, Romi had worked out the details, and Winter had approved it all. Didn’t make it right that they had kept it from Derek.“Yes, it’s true. I used a spell to banish him away. He can’t come back,” she answered, careful to leave out the fact that she was so happy to know that he was gone forever, that she could throw a party and not feel the slightest bit guilty. Judging from the look on Derek’s face, she didn’t know if he would appreciate that kind of information.

”Not exactly? Your father tried to hurt you and he used silver to do it. That’s why your arm is like that. I gave you some medicine last night, but it’s something that your body is just going to have to work out on its own.” Romi set her cup down on the table and rose to her feet. Moved over to the side of the couch to examine Derek’s arm, though she tried not to move it too much. “Can you feel it at all? Is your entire arm numb?”

Silver. He knew that it wasn't going for him. There was no way to hide the burn marks from the shackles, no way to pass off way certain silver objects made him uncomfortable to touch. Winter had been wide enough to inform him that silver was bad so he wouldn't accidentally do something to hurt the body. Luckily, he only ever felt the aftermath of the worst silver encounters.
"No, i-it hurts, I can f-feel that. I just can't m-move it," Derek replied. Despite knowing any movement would make things worse, he had to see what it looked like. So, slowly, the boy put aside Waddles, who had currently still been cradled in his good arm, and tried to push himself up to a sitting position.

“Aries said it would wear off, but it needs to work its way out of your system,” Romi hummed, both worried and concerned, but unwilling to fret over the man. She didn’t know if he would appreciate her hovering over him and treating him like a hospitalized patient, even though he technically was one, just without the hospital. As much as she wanted him to be comfortable, she also didn’t want to make him feel bad in any way. “It doesn’t look great. He said it wouldn’t be permanent, but I don’t think you should lie on it just in case. And drinking plenty of water is probably a good idea. I can see what medicine I have that might numb the pain, but I’m just guessing right now.”
She wanted to do what she could to help. Which wasn’t much at this point, but she hoped she could make at least a little difference.

Derek was able to sit up with much difficulties. The potion that Romi had given him had helped, that was for sure. The cracked ribs didn't send searing pain through his chest when he moved, and most of the smaller bruises had healed themselves already. Yet his entire body felt sore and awkward, his muscles and bones alike feeling as if they had been stretched too far and then compressed again. There was a good chance he wouldn't have needed to get up in the first place, but the boy had wanted to. It gave him a better angle to study his arm.
She hadn't been lying when she said it hadn't been pretty. His jacket had been removed, probably by Aries or Romi in the process of checking the body over. That left him in the T-shirt Winter had chosen to wear yesterday. The protector didn't like to wear long sleeves for some odd reason, claiming he preferred the cold weather. Because of it, though, he could see the full damage that had befallen their body. Where the veins in his arm usually lay invisible and hidden now stood horribly black. Not all of them, but just the ones unlucky enough to have the silver coursing through them. The black lines reached all the way to his hands. Lifting up the sleeve, Derek saw that they stretched all the way up to his shoulder. He didn't know what had happened to them, but he was a little afraid to find out. He hadn't meant to, but before he could stop them, tears formed and rolled down his cheeks.

There was no shame in crying. At least, that’s what Romi liked to believe. After all that had happened, whether Derek knew exactly what had happened for not, he deserved to let his emotions out. Bottling it all up wasn’t even close to healthy. She wanted to help him feel better, even if she didn’t know exactly what to do. When in doubt, she would like to think that physical affection could help people feel better when they were hurt or sick. So, that’s what she did. Trying not to jostle Derek around too much, she moved so that she could sit behind him on the couch, and wrap her arms around his waist. Pull him close that he could lie down against her while she sat up.
“It’s going to be okay,” she promised softly and she meant it. From now on, she wanted to make things better for him. “I won’t let anyone else hurt you. You’ve been through a lot, Derek, and you deserve to be happy. I want to help you be happy.”

Romi could never know exactly what Derek was going through. She had never suffered from DID and had never had such a horrible, complicated relationship with her own parents. Derek suffered through so much, not just in the past few days, but throughout his entire life. He dealt with having other alters who all inhabited the same body. He suffered through his father’s unnecessary and cruel punishments. Now, perhaps he was just under too much stress to handle the pain and the emotional damage. She couldn’t say she knew how he was feeling, but she did her best to be considerate and compassionate. All she could do was hold him as he cried, run her fingers through his hair and rest her chin on the top of his head. Offer him the comfort she thought he might need.
She stayed like that for what felt like a decade. In silence, just soothing him the only way she could think of. She would have stayed like that all day, if he needed her to, and she wouldn’t have minded one bit.

All day wouldn't be necessary to stay there. Still feeling the strain of exhaustion from yesterday, Derek didn't have the energy to spend on crying. Five minutes later found the boy calming down, sniffling and feeling just as miserable as before. A feeling of numbness settled over him. This was the cycle for him: He would endure as best as he could, work himself up to the point of breaking down, then find himself in a state of complete indifference to the wold around him. There was nothing he could do to make everything go away, so he just gave in to it, accepted it for what it was. The pain would always be there. The paranoia. The helplessness. All of it was his life, and there was nothing he could do to change it.
The only thing different now was Romi. She was there, holding him, supporting him, allowing him to break even when she didn't have to. With Sam still close to the front, mainly because he wanted to know when and if Gil and Aries returned, he shifted so he could bury his face into the woman's shoulder, curling up as small as he possible could. "W-What happens n-now?" he asked quietly.

What happens now?
The question had crossed her mind as well. What would they do now? Would everything go back to the way it was—now with the addition of Derek? Would they return to their studies?
“Anything can happen now,” was what Romi decided to say as she ran her hand through his hair. She meant it in a good way—Derek could do what he wanted now. Go where he wanted. All without the looming shadow of fear and paranoia that had been caused by his father. Although he would still have his issues, which couldn’t be healed with medication and wouldn’t go away in a single day, Romi hoped that this freedom would help him adjust to a more normal life. “You can stay with me here, if you want to. There’s always going to be a place for you and the others wherever I am. You can go back to school, but only if you really want to. You can travel across the world and see everything and meet new people.”
She knew that they still had to address that party invite—the day was fast approaching—but that could wait until Derek was feeling better.

"I-I doubt I-I'll be allowed to go b-back to school," Derek muttered. He had missed a lot of classes while he had been living with Romi, too afraid to leave the safety of her dorm and the wards set around it. With his father gone as well, there was no one to pay for his tuition anyway. So even if he or Winter wanted to continue, they wouldn't have had the money to do so. At least he didn't have to worry finding a different place to live. He didn't feel like finding a place for himself, and living at their home didn't feel like a good idea. Eventually, they would have to go back and get what few belongings they had, mainly Sam's stuffed animals, but that could wait until later.

“We’ll find a way if you want to, sugar,” Romi said and tilted her face down to look at him with a smile. Maybe it was crazy, but she would do just about anything Derek asked her to. She would get him the things he needed and she would find a way to get the things he wanted as well. Whether that was an education or something completely different, it didn’t matter. From the first day they met, she knew that Derek had her wrapped around his finger—he was brilliant and so sweet, even if he was shy and had a mountain of issues going on. Maybe he didn’t know it, but she was already so fond of him. Not just him, either, but all of them. Sam and even Winter, despite how grumpy he could be. “I can talk to the office about your absences and I can talk to my parents about your tuition. Instead of dorming on campus, I was thinking about getting an apartment for us, so we can stay together, if that’s something you’d like.”
If Winter wanted to leave one day and the others agreed to it, she wouldn’t stop them from doing so, but until that ever happened, she would offer them a home. Speaking of which, she wondered how to break the news to all the boys that their old house was no longer there—burned to the ground and destroyed by Xorros. As much as she wanted to care for and protect all of the alters, Xorros was a tough one to feel compassion for. He was wild and unpredictable. Worst of all, he didn’t seem to care if he hurt the others, and that wasn’t okay with her. All of them needed to be considerate of one another, which was something that Xorros clearly had no care for.

"I-I'll have to see what W-Winter wants to do. H-He was the one who did most of the studying," Derek said. Winter had been host all through high school, so the older boy knew more than Derek. Now, that didn't mean Winter withheld the information he learned. He shared and taught what he could to Derek, helping him so he would be able to function if he was fronting in class one day. College was no different. They had agreed that they would study a field that Winter would enjoy for they knew he would be the one to remember and learn more easily of the two. Derek didn't know how he did it, but Winter always managed to have high grades. As for the apartment, he tilted his head back to look at her. "T-that going to be e-expensive, isn't it?" he asked. "G-getting an apartment, I mean."

Winter was the one who made all the important decisions, so Romi nodded her head in understanding. It took a little bit of time, but coming to understand how the alters all worked together and had a sort of leader-like system was important information to retain. She was happy to learn more about their situation, so that she could help them in a way that was better than someone who didn’t understand, because they wouldn’t be able to.
“Well, Winter is free to talk to me about it if he wants to.” If he decided he wanted to stay in school, she would do everything she could to help him. If he didn’t want to continue, she would find him something else to do with his time. Perhaps find a suitable job he might enjoy, ask her parents to pull some strings. While her parents refused to spoil her endlessly, they often helped her out more than other parents would have, and she was thankful for it now. More so for Derek’s sake than her own currently. She didn’t know how they would react to her having befriended a very peculiar demon, but she hoped they would be easy to persuade. “I guess it would be a little expensive, but it’s okay. I’m going to look for a job in the area. I’d like to sell potions to earn a little money, but I need a bigger space to brew them, so I’ll probably get a human job for a while.”
