Currently? Er, maybe 5? Might be more, but those are the ones I have listed on my whiteboard right now. The mod greatly believes your fics are awesome. And yeah. Your perception skills are 20/20! Thank you. <3

That's about how many stories I have in the works at any given time. Only one of them is a fanfic, but I have loads of others I jump on every now and again to write for. Only two I'm really planning (hoping) I get finished into actual books. The others are just kind of there because I had the idea and had to go for it for a little while. That ever happen to you?
Thank you! <3

Poor Hollowpaw! I'd agree that her feelings are justified. She's had a massive shock and it's going to take her time to process. However, I don't think they're correct, since her fox mother, Dappleleaf and the rest clearly care for her more than just through pity. I'm good, thanks! Luckily the weather's been nice where I am so I've spent a lot of time outside. Hope you're okay!

Fair points! I understand what you're saying, and I can agree to that quite a bit. Honestly, I have no disagreements with it, and that's how I wanted it to be conveyed in writing - the way you talked about her emotions - that they're justified but still wrong. She's definitely had a lot of trauma so far in her short life. Very good! It's still important to get outside and enjoy some fresh air, for sure. I've been pretty okay, kinda good, even.

I am working on so many books right now that it isn't even funny. But yeah, I have several that I'm switching through a lot of the time. A few fan fictions, a comic, and then a bunch of creative writing things. Is the fan fiction you mentioned this one or another one?

Another one. It's another Warriors story, possibly my last fanfic after this one. I get a bunch of ideas to write for, but only a few are really usable to make actual stories out of. This next one, so far, will be more of an adventure kind of fic, rather than just taking place among a singular clan or the same few territories.

You switching to writing original works after that? I've got a new fic idea playing around in my head which might become an original work, but I like it a lot as a Warrior concept, so I'm excited to see how it goes. I have a stubborn habit of liking all story lines I come up with, so that means brushing off the dust of almost 8 year old story ideas pretty regularly because I'm finally ready to write them. I don't intend to do a series again though. Waaay too much work. Might do singular stories set in the same world rather than books right after each other.

mintedstar/fur Yeah. I have some in the works already. The problem with me is that I can write so well in a universe that's already set up - fanfictions - but I am horrible at creating my own universes. I'm trying to get better at it, and I'm going to do it with the couple other stories I have going and plan to finish eventually. Books in a series are always hard. I really tried with Born of Blood, but I just couldn't. It wasn't the same, it was too much work, and I honestly liked the idea my murderous character was just out there in the world as an ending. I'm sure you'll write plenty of great stories to come, in a series or not.

That's so cool! I hope you get there! I found a good stepping off point was to write it in the real world, in modern or historical times, since it was already a lot like the existing world for me to play in. But learning to world build can be a fun struggle all its own. Thanks! And yeah, I get what you mean. I do have a fair amount of the last book done at least, so I'm still hyped to continue it. I'm just ready for some more stand alones.

Minted is right. Starting with a "world" you know and understand is a good stepping point. Imagine a place, and its smells, sights, sounds, and how your characters relate to it. Draw maps, make charts, if you must to keep details straight. Put yourself in your character's place and see, hear, scent and feel what they do.
World building in an AU or another planet and its people, is work, but I have always found it fun. Reading a LOT in the genre you want to write in helps give ideas on how its done. In scifi, the research to get the basic underlying science right is work too, esp if you are not scientifically leaning. If you are, like me, its a plus. Creating maps, charts, and lists with information can help a great deal and help prevent the big info dumps that can interrupt a story. Information about a world can be learned from the characters themselves. Also imagining yourself standing in that world,or planet, and "learning" its history through character development, setting and scene, and story development works for me.
As I work the characters often give me more and more insight into their world and culture. its hard to explain, but one bad side effect-I talk to myself a lot-babbling out loud what this character or that one would do or say, what they look like, and how they see things. Also how their culture and history developed. Right now in Book III of my scifi all the little seemingly frivolous details in Book I, and some in II, are ALL weaving together and coming to the final chapters of the whole tale. Sometimes it even amazes me so many years down the road how some little remark, event, or scene foreshadowed something and has relevance to characters and the situations they are now in.
Don't want to scare ya but I started writing Book I in 1979! I was 22. Book III is maybe a year or two from full completion, and, I am now 63. Sheesh. But it is partially my fault for ignoring it for months at a time, working on other stuff or other projects. In writing NEW BLOOD, I found it more difficult to keep things straight and compliant with the established Universe, but that is probably because I included canon characters instead of using all new. But that was a fun project and one of these days when I finish RISING STARS, I am going to make a hard print copy for myself. Let's hope I can get both things done before my time on this planet is done. And I hope you find that groove, too. Its a fun ride.

I like the new chapter! Gingerfoot is way too aggressive in my opinion. Although maybe that's a sign that things are even worse in FireClan than they seem. I liked how Hollowpaw is still dedicated to the medicine code despite everything she's just discovered, too.
And I'm going to use my complete lack of veterinary knowledge and declare that the disease is rabies.

mintedstar/fur I hope that you have more good days very soon ~Sapphire~ It makes sense that if a clan is vulnerable that some cats would want to turn that sense of vulnerability into anger and aggression. Just like how people do it sometimes. Gingerfoot is the same. Hollowpaw also has to have some form of identity still, and I think being a Medicine Cat is all she feels she really has, at the moment. Just as people do today, she is sticking to what she believes in. How are you doing, btw?

Definitely agree, on both counts! (Also, I realised that what I said about Gingerfoot comes across as criticism which wasn't my intention - I was trying to point her aggression out as a possible plot point, but I messed up on the wording. So sorry about that!) I'm as fine as I can be, with everything that's going on. Mostly been reading and baking. You?

No, you're fine! I understood what you were getting at. I think my wording just might have been off XD About the same, but working and trying to find some suitable land to possibly buy so I can eventually have a house and move out. It's going so-so on that front.

~Sapphire~ For now, just land. My bf and I do want to build a house later on, though. That way we can have it the way we want. Finding good land at a decent price and in the area we want is really hard, though. mintedstar/fur Glad it has! Also, I noticed under your profile that you have a birthday soon - or already have. So, happy birthday!

That sounds really cool! And I can imagine it's difficult to get the land. Where I live there's really strict controls on what you can do with land, idk about round yours?

Post by 🍁Searipple101🍁 on Jun 18, 2020 18:28:42 GMT -5
No, not really. If you want to build or dig then you need some permits, but it's not too bad. I just need to actually get the land first, and that seems to be the hardest part, honestly.

I have gotten back into watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, since it came into Netfix. I watched it as a kid, and it's still so good, maybe even better now that I can understand things a little more. You?
