(I am actually tearing up Dx poor Branchlegs, poor Halfgaze)
Dapplestar Shivering against a cold only she felt, Dapplestar wiggled herself a bit closer to her mate, seeking comfort and warmth. She'd told Halfgaze many a time to leave her lest he risk catching whatever illness she herself had. The coughs had weakened her for a moment, left her unable to respond to her deputy when Adderfang had been reporting to her just a few moments ago. "I'm fine, love." She croaked, curling up further in an effort to try and stop her chills. "You...You shouldn't be here." Her reasoning for confining herself to her den was to prevent the spread of her mysterious ailment. Being unable to see her own son had been nothing short of utter torture for her, but she'd do whatever needed to be done in order to protect her kit. When he's near me, I can't protect him! Her ragged breathing increased at the thought of anything happening to Halfgaze. "I...I can't...I can't protect you."
Adderfang Having picked out a plump trout, the deputy had settled himself near the Rock-Pile, facing Dapplestar's den. He sighed as he recalled his time as an apprentice, with the great leader herself as his mentor. The torbie molly had no qualms about handing him his rump whenever he got too cocky during battle training but she was the only cat he'd trained with that he felt gave him any real challenge. Well, at least as far as fighting anyway, he thought as his eyes caught the form of Branchlegs sitting dutifully by his mother's den. They'd both been apprentices at the same time and, as the deputy recalled, Branchlegs as well as Stagleap had both bested him as far as hunting. I wish there was something I could do, he loathed seeing the cats of his clan in such a state. With a huff he cast an impatient look toward the medicine cat's den before taking another bite out of his trout. After chewing thoughtfully for a few moments, Adderfang scooped up the rest of his meal and headed toward Branchlegs. "Eat." He said, dropping the fish in front of the warrior. His tone was meant to be commanding but ended up coming out more gentle than he honestly intended. "Dapplestar would not want to see her son in such a weak state. She'd want you to be strong." Adderfang had no clue where these soft words were coming from, but he couldn't seem to stop them from tumbling out. "She'd want all of us to be strong."

Halfgaze merely laughed and laid by his mate's side, curling into her, his gaze warm and kind. "I am old and weak, if I die from being by you, then at least it's by your side that I pass. I wish nothing more than to be here for you love. All of my stories have been told, all of my training passed on to others, I haven't nothing else left but my devotion to this clan and my undying love for you. You have protected us for many seasons, now let me protect you instead." --- Branchlegs looked up at the deputy as he approached, giving a weak smile when he out the fish in front of him. "How about we share it?" His voice was hoarse, his mouth parched as he hadn't left to get anything to drink for two days now. His eyes wandered to the den worriedly before he took a bite of the salmon, his mouth watering as he chewed his meal, thankful for the prey. He would have gotten some himself, but he didn't wish to move from his spot by his mother's den. Halfgaze and Dapplestar were the only family he had left, since he had been an only kit and had yet to take on a mate.

Dapplestar Warmth spread throughout Dapplestar's body as she took in Halfgaze's loving words. Her shivers slowly came to a stop and, in a rare moment of weakness, tears escaped her eyes. With a sigh, she allowed her body to relax and she rested her head on her mate's paws. "What about Branchlegs?" She questions, her voice still raspy as she turns to lay on her side, facing Halfgaze now. "You, and Adderfang, and the Medicine Cat might not want to accept it, but I will." She murmurs, her tone soft yet firm. "I'm dying, Halfgaze. This is my last life and I'm not getting any better. And what's worse? I'm pushing our only son away." As her guilt arose, so did her heart rate, causing her breathing to become raspier. "He can't see me like this! I love him, Starclan knows what this is doing to him, but he can't see me like this and he's going to need someone to lean on once I'm gone!" Her eyes become glassy with tears as she brings her bright green eyes up to meet his. "And so will you. You have to be there for our son, Halfgaze. You both have to be there for each other."
Adderfang With a nod, Adderfang crouched beside Branchlegs, waiting for the warrior to eat a bit before taking a small nibble himself. Briefly, he wondered what he would do should Dapplestar really not pull through. How will I be able to pull everyone through this? I'm not her. I'm not compassionate and understanding. I might be able to protect and provide for this clan physically, but mentally? Emotionally? A sigh escaped him and Adderfang suddenly found his appetite lacking. He rises to a sitting position and looks out across camp. Can I care for this entire clan without her guidance?

hello! i’ve got family over right now but once they’re gone i’ll hop onto a laptop and make my forms; the medicine cat apprentice, a queen, and 1-2 regular warriors is what i’m thinking, if that’s fine?))
