{ πΌπ²π΅πΏ I'm so sorry for disappearing for so long! I was out of commission for a while...If you're still interested, here's my starter! } {_{_}_} The sky is a shade of blue so beautiful it almost hurts to look at, with nary a cloud to besmirch it. A cool breeze tempers the warmth of the sun, and birds soar high above to take advantage of this, calling to each other in shrill 'voices'. The city's people also seek to show their appreciation, the marketplace bustling with the neverending calls of buyers and sellers. Children dart through the crowds or bounce alongside their parents with linked hands. The castle itself hums with activity as its inhabitants continue to make adjustments and establish it as belonging to a new queen. The halls, the streets, the hills- they all echo with rushing steps and beating hearts. With life. And though life is prone to its misfortunes and mishaps, the overall mood is one of happiness and contentment. If he were one inclined to humility, Vainemuinn would say that he couldn't have crafted a better day- but he deals in facts (mostly), so he takes pleasure in the knowledge that he has, in fact. He had ensured that the queen's coronation was perfect, the day as bright and beautiful as this one. In fact, the next several days following it had been as auspiciously golden as the first, and many people are now muttering about what a good omen it is for the start of her reign. There were doubts and skeptical comments at first, but Kita and her Queenmaker had weathered the storm of general disapproval concerning her diffident, introverted nature and emerged much better for it all. All of the work he put in during those troublesome years has earned him a nice fifteen hour sun-warmed nap, at the least. It's a pity that no one else appears to appreciate this. His many contributions to the kingdom- new fruits, a more organized schooling system, better appreciation for fashion- and the Duke of Valimere could care less about anything of real worth. He's still talking. As he had been throughout Vainemuinn's dreams. "- and I believe that it is my right as her majesty's beloved uncle to-" Vainemuinn tilts his head back and yawns. Loudly- Though not loud enough to drown out the insipid, persistent man. He sighs and completes a series of stretches before finally deigning to sit up on the cushioned window seat to give the hovering man a fraction of his attention. The duke hasn't lost any wind, but he does seem to detect some objectionable emotion in the Queenmaker's dismissive gaze and scoffs with excess derision. " I don't know why I bother addressing you." He would have rolled his eyes if such an action hadn't been bred out of him. " You no longer have any position in the queen's court. You'll be gone by dusk, likely." The duke stalks away, muttering about a waste of his precious time. Vainemuinn is forced to place a hand over his tail to still its agitated thrashing. He is accustomed to allowing the more...tiresome members of the queen's court to talk themselves out around him. But it is becoming more of a chore as of late. He forces his lips into a smile and exhales slowly through clenched teeth. Nothing that wastrel says can ever be right. Right! Vainemuinn shakes himself out as if he were physically removing the remnants of his bad mood and pats down flyaway golden curls before glancing out the window through his bangs to determine the position of the sun. Ah, Kita should be finishing up her meeting now~ Mood restored, Vaine slides from his perch with a rather determinedly cheery hum and swish of his gloriously fluffy tail. Though he really wants to allow himself to be distracted by the sinfully perfect way his golden fur catches the sunlight- and okay so he takes a moment or two to do just that- he sets his Queen as his focus and tugs gently on the magic that tethers them. Not with any real action on his part- there's a piece of him that is intrinsically woven into the fabric of her life itself, and by beckoning it toward him, he can instantly draw himself toward her without resorting to walking or stars forbid running- Vainemuinn flickers out of space itself and only deigns to reappear outside the door of the queen's study with a soft bell-like ringing. Though accustomed to his abrupt appearances, the maid delivering Kita's afternoon refreshments starts badly, muffling a shriek as the tray slides from her suddenly nerveless grip. Tamping down on his amusement at her simultaneously startled and indignant expression, he gathers the spilled tea and tarts with a wave before they can reach the floor. Each dish, drop, and crumb are floated neatly back into place on the tray now balanced in his other hand. " My apologies, miss~" He only receives a sneer for his trouble. They both know that he isn't actually apologetic and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Though he doesn't actually torment the staff on purpose- often- The maid doesn't dignify him with a response, only turning away with a mutter about being glad when they could finally be rid of him. Really now. You technically lose your job for a fortnight or so and suddenly everyone loses any ounce of respect they may have had. Vainemuinn tsks as he blinks out of existence again, reappearing in the center of Kita's study in a burst of golden glitter for the sheer Spectacle of it all. He even makes certain to appear in a natural spotlight formed by the curtains around one of her windows for best effect. Vaine never uses doors where it concerns her. Simple, inane entrances would be a discredit to his queen and to himself. They're both too good for that. " Kitty~!" He purrs- sounding as if he'd better fit his childhood nickname for her- " You were taking forever, do you know? I was just shy of being forced to eat your sweets out of sheer indignation." This he says with a disapproving wrinkle of his nose, casually brushing glitter off of a raspberry tart before taking a delicate bite. His tail is beginning to wag yet he staunchly ignores this. Vainemuinn has made a habit of complaining about everything Kita does without him- perhaps to hide just how proud he is of how capable she's become- not that he'd ever admit to anything of the sort- And he manages to look appropriately put-out as he waves the tray toward her and curls into the large silk-covered cushion moved into the room for his convenience. Vainemuinn then embarks on a meandering account of his day- attempting to act as if nothing is wrong, even though he had been avoiding Kita for the past several days after her coronation. The mix of emotions it evoked in him were...strange and he retreated to process them. On one hand, he was so happy and proud of her. And himself, a little. The culmination of an entire life spent devoted to her and her cause had nearly made him unable to stand with the force of his feeling. Their success. Even though it has only just begun for her- the realities of being queen- it has ended for him. His part in her life; the one he played since they met when she was only seven years and he seven days- He told himself that he was only preparing himself to say goodbye, but talk he heard circulating in the court has brought him back to her. Acting as if he never left. He just feels that this piece of information should come from someone who cares about her. Not that she doesn't have friends- he's made certain of that, at least- but something compels him to be the one to say what she could quickly learn anyway. Still, he hesitates. Resting a cheek against his arm as he watches the sunlight halo her snowy hair. He doesn't know what's wrong with him- He's usually so sharp, but lately there have been times when he's lost track of his occasionally labyrinthine thoughts and simply finds himself...staring. At her. It perhaps wouldn't be so...disorienting if he weren't plagued by other...things. Like the discomfiting feeling that seizes his chest when she smiles at him. Like that. Like she is now. Vainemuinn's ears briefly flick backward as he averts his gaze to the tea tray as if searching for a particular treat. That break was meant to center him. What is this, then? There's a brief flash of irritation- that is increased exponentially when a loud knock causes tremors in the queen's study door. " Your majesty-" " Our apologies, her majesty will be occupied until further notice~! Please try again at a later date~" Vainemuinn says with almost believable regret in his lyrical tone, locking the door and muting all behind it with a dismissive glance. He already knows what's on the man's mind, and he will have his say. Right. Eventually. Perhaps. Perhaps if he doesn't look her in the eye, this time... " Kitty~" He begins, with no real plan as to how to end.

Meeting after meeting, with breaks here and there, these days were filled with meeting after meeting after meeting. It was to be expected though. Coronation had hardly just completed and what else was there to do but confer and finalize the beginnings of a new monarch? It should have been expected, it was expected, though still Kita found herself in the whirlwind. A woman of grace and poise though it was a seamless transition in her eyes. All those of her closest panels and courts had taken her in and those who had doubted how the reign would begin were put to ease. Her aptitude for communication, her deftness in solving matters of state and civil suits, and the elegance with which she dealt with naysayers was something to be admired. All this was in great part to Vainemuinn. He had taken the shy, introverted, and rather awkward bookworm that was Kita and cultivated a marvelous leader for the people. Though those who disliked him would believe otherwise, it was truly a great feat.
On a day like today Kita sat quietly in yet another meeting with only a few advisors. Today it was simple, a matter of how to further the distribution of the kingdom's goods. To Kita, this came easily, distribute the goods and the products the kingdom created evenly to those who would pay for it. If their neighbors to the south wished for more of the grains and wheats her farmers were growing, the ship it to them for the payment and proper trade amount. To some of her advisors though, those older who remembered the days of war and still held grudges, they say this as foolish and "forgetful". "You truly believe that holding onto the past will further the future of our kingdom?" Her voice was soft but the way she spoke hinted at a bit of anger and almost in point to make her opponents feel foolish. Her eyes turned to them with a gaze that made them falter in their speech. A gaze that could swiftly change from the icy plains of the far north to a warm summer's breeze in an instant. At times it truly was terrifying how swiftly the queen could do this. All her emotions boiled and read straight through her gaze, she had learned from Vain to control her expressions but her eyes still relayed the truth no matter what. A soft sigh slipped through her lips then as she pulled the papers for arrangements before her. Dipping the snow white quill into the ink, Kita made quick work of revising the old plan. After the soft scribbling subsided she passed the new documents around the table. All were silent, some smirking with pride at the decision and others hiding their disdain for the deal. As it returned to her, the queen lifted her quill once more and signed in an elegant flick of her wrist. "It is done then. I appreciate you all taking the time to go over these with me today and will see you tonight after dinner for further arrangements." With that she rose to her feet and moved away to the window, dismissing them so she could be alone once more.
As the doors closed behind her another sigh slipped her lips and a light smile slowly pulled the corners of her mouth upward. Out the large window Kita had a marvelous view of her kingdom. The bustling streets of the marketplace reminded her of ants working in the gardens and a little laugh sounded through the room at the thought. Slowly she reached up and tugged her braided hair from the tight bun it had been pulled into. Her silvery blonde, nearly ivory, hair fell in a single braid down her back, shining brightly in the afternoon sunlight pouring through the panes. As she turned back to the now empty table, she caught her reflection in the mirror and had to blink away the surprise. It was always that way now that she had become queen. Her reflection showed that of a truly regal monarch, someone who's portraits would garner respect and admiration for years to come. A mousy girl in her youth, the young lady had grown and filled out into someone many young girls wish they could be and many man wish they could have. Her figure was slim and lithe, though rounded at the right places. Her heart shaped face framed by gentle curls of shorter hair that would not be tamed into a tight updo. Eyes were framed with naturally dark lashes and her lips had the slightest of upturns at the corners, giving her a soft pout at all moments. Another blink and Kita laughed, shaking her head at the image.
Reclining back into one of the more comfortable chairs she occupied herself with taking off the tight shoes that had been chosen for her today, one clattering to the floor and then the next. Though the clatter of the second was accompanied by a soft trickle of golden glitter. As her eyes rose back up to the table a joyful smile found its way to her lips, her stormy blue eyes lighting up with equal happiness. "Kitty". She giggled softly to the entrance of her mystical friend and listened to his complaints, as always, to her business with monarchal affairs. As he began regalling her on his account of the day Kita settled happily into her chair, taking a lightly powdered pastry from the tray as it passed before her. Her eyes never leaving him, she was constantly astounded and delighted by his appearances and his stories, that had never changed in their years of being together. Finally he settled and she tipped her head gently to the side, waiting to address him in return.
Her concentration on him was broken by the knock at the door and her gaze switched there. Though Vain made quick work of dismissing the interruption and locking them within. Kita laughed then, a bright happy sort of sound that echoed for a moment in the room. "Vain! You really shouldn't do that you know." the scolding was more in jest and the smile in her eyes shown that she was happy for the seclusion from those who wished to pry her away from her quiet moments once again. Though for a moment a bit of worry flashed through her gaze as he began a sentence, though trailed. She could see the soft confusion in his eyes and the subtle way his ears pressed backwards. For her, he was an open book, easy to read and simple to understand, or so she thought as still a few things escaped her. She rose, the fabric of her dress unravelling to the floor and further now that her heels were off. Tugging up the skirt lightly, Kita moved to sit closer to Vain, the powdered pastry still in her hands. Settling into a seat nearer to him, once more she tipped her head and waited for him to speak, "What's on your mind?" simple but sincere.

{ So am I~ Proven by the fact that I was inspired and so here's this:
Vaine is just quietly always on the verge of a breakdown at this point }
_____________
Kita smiles and laughs and listens- and is beautiful. But that is just a fact at this point. She's always been beautiful so he has no idea why he feels the need to mentally remark on it every time he sees her. He's beautiful too, so it's not like he isn't accustomed to seeing beauty with the amount of time he spends before a mirror- But no, the point is that she's smiling and laughing and listening as if he'd never left. And Vainemuinn feels inexplicably guilty- and then something similarly unpleasant. Like concern or doubt or...insecurity. Because he left and she doesn't appear concerned over whether or not he would return. Or she simply gave him his space and is relieved that he's returned and doesn't want to make an ordeal of it. Or she was just so busy that she didn't have time to notice. Or he is being characteristically melodramatic over a seven day absence and treating it like he's returned from war. (Not too far from the truth. And it's a war he's lost, apparently) Or-
Or.
Vainemuinn was once able to read Kita with an ease that he alone possessed, but lately he's been muddling his senses with useless thoughts and applying words or intentions to her without any real evidence. He needs to see her, properly. And he needs to calm down, because his tail is beginning to puff up and he's been silent a beat too long. She's happy, so he's happy. It's as simple as that. He doesn't- can't- no more than that. No more.
Vainemuinn was almost centered until she laughed again, chiding him lightly with a sparkle in stormy blue eyes that were so unclouded in his presence. Kita caught onto his moment of indecision- and of course she does- moving closer with a whisper of fabric to settle at his side. Without him to coax her into more vibrant wardrobe choices, he notes that she's wearing something a touch more conservative today. And it's almost fitting, at this point... Vaine finds himself unconsciously shifting closer to her, and consciously releasing the tension from his body.
"You." He huffs in response, not sounding particularly pleased about this fact. "You've only just become queen, and you've proven to be an adept one- not that you had any choice with me at your side-" Vainemuinn takes an aggressive bite of his tart before sitting up and turning to face her fully, a moue furrowing his golden brow. He had used the chewing as a way to buy time for organizing his thoughts- which remain scattered to the four winds- but he manages to make his tone more petulant than aggravated, at least. He doesn't manage to work his way up to what he means to say, however. Vainemuinn could be more graceful, but his flowery prose fails him at this moment.
"The court is halfway to arranging a marriage between you and the second prince of Viorte." Without her input, he doesn't say, though it's possible that she already knows this. It's common for queens and princesses to make political matches, even after being newly crowned- Vainemuinn is the reason Kita hadn't had any made when she was younger- but now he isn't exactly in the position to prevent this. Especially when their primary motivation is to further the fragile peace between their kingdom and one they so often warred with- who threaten war even now. He catches his tail to still its agitated flicking, though his ears press back without his expressly allowing them to do so.
'You don't need this.' He doesn't say. Vaine is- sometimes painfully- aware of his role as Queenmaker. He can't allow his personal feelings to influence his queen. Not that he should have any to begin with- But it is always ultimately up to Kita to decide where she takes herself. He only wishes she weren't so strapped by duty and her birthright.

Her eyes moved over him, his tail to his ears, taking in the ever flamboyant outfit and the way the two appendages reacted upon their own accord with his emotions. Perhaps another reason she is always able to read him so constantly and simply. She could see the wheels whirring in his mind and the way he, nowadays, seemed to be constantly worrying and struggling with things to say around her. Truthfully, she believed it to be worry over the new position she was placed into, or perhaps the impending slumber he would return to as his duties had been completed, either way she wished only to calm those fears and put his mind at ease. Not once had it crossed her mind that perhaps he wished for her attentions, or even affections, more. Once more she listened to him, taking a bite from her pastry and wiping the powder gently from the corners of her lips.
There was a moment when he began to speak, when he admitted that it was her on his mind, that her heart may have jumped. Though perhaps it was just happiness, pride, or something else. Kita passed this off though, of course she was to be on his mind after all of these events. He had been working his life to create her into the queen she became. Why else would she have been on his mind? Of course it couldn't be...no, he had merely been worried for her.
When he spoke of the marriage arrangements, yet again the emotion flitted to her eyes. This time it was hints of distaste and annoyance, perhaps even a little anger. Though letting out, once more, a gentle sigh she nodded in return, "I heard the talk and I know what their plan is." Her voice was flat and you could hear the sadness that dripped into the edges of her words. Her eyes had moved away from him to the window to avoid him seeing what she was thinking. It was a valiant effort though he would have been able to read it upon her face no matter what. After a single moment Kita shook her head and turned back to Vain. Another giggle as she saw his ears and puffed tail. With her free hand she reached forward and squeezed one of his ears lightly, "No need to get jealous now Vain, you know I much prefer your time and presence over anyone else across the kingdoms!" Her thumb rubbed the soft fur inside the tip of her ear for a moment, then she finished her pastry and rose.
"I have some free time, would you like to help me with something? I know you'll enjoy yourself so, let's get our minds off these matters for a bit! You've been gone so I want to be with you before all this fuss comes back for me!" With that she gathered her skirts once more and turned towards her another door at the end of her room, this leading to the large bathroom and closet which held her collection of dresses from various occasions and gifts. She made work of tugging her hair from the braid with one hand, holding up her skirts to free her feet with the other. Once reaching the doors she shook out her hair lightly and turned to Vain, "I've gotten a few new dresses from the tailors and as coronation gifts, I think you'd enjoy quite a few of them!" Her bright attitude and smile were back, few saw this jesting, care-free side of Kita and Vain was often the main audience for such a show.
In the back of her mind she thought through the prospects of the marriage arrangement. She remembered meeting this prince once before, at a ball a few months before her coronation. He was pompous and brash, though after a bit of time he seemed to calm down and dismiss the attitude. Admittedly, she could see herself getting along with the man. But, marriage? Pushing the thoughts away she pulled open the double doors and smiled over her shoulder to Vain, giving him a gentle nod as a beckon to follow her.

The queen's distaste reflects his own, which is irksomely gratifying. And yet she possesses the ability to let all her anger and dismay out in a gentle sigh. Vaine suspects that he is still holding his breath. Kita turns her gaze to the window, not quite as vibrant as she was before, and he finds himself forced to hold his tongue as well. He hadn't meant to dim her mood, yet his first instinct is to decry the decision- what her advisors already believe to be a foregone conclusion- and his second is to turn it into a joke, make light of it as he often did when their talks strayed too far into somber territory. But there's a finality in her tone and shift of her shoulders that has him leave it be.
Vainemuinn had been prepared to act to turn the moment around when Kita does it for him, literally turning back toward him with a light giggle and reaching over to gently squeeze one of his pinned ears. And just like that, the sun shines brighter.
He scoffs loudly to cover up the beat of his heart. "I am not jealous, I have nothing to be jealous over." He sticks his nose in the air and narrows his eyes, parodying haughty offense; though he ensures the action doesn't actually remove his ear from her grasp. "I don't know if you've seen me lately-" Vainemuinn arches his brows and pointedly adjusts the fall of his mantle. Ivory and sable, limned in gold. A new addition to his ever-evolving wardrobe. "And it really is no wonder." He gives a little huff, as if to nonverbally 'perish the thought'. "Anyone would cherish my time and attention~ You must be endlessly grateful that I am your Queenmaker and not someone with even half as much talent or charm." Maybe if he keeps talking about himself, she won't notice how much those words mean to him. His hand remains on his treacherous tail, preventing it from wagging.
Vainemuinn swallows a soft noise of protest when Kita releases him to rise and cross the room, glad that her back is turned so that he only has himself to convince that he isn't watching her. It takes him a while to register what she says, eyes darting from the fall of her now loose white-gold hair to her cheerful blue gaze. There was already a smile threatening to overtake his face, but now he finds himself truly responding in kind. She sets him at ease so quickly and effortlessly that he can only hope he does half as much for her.
"I suppose I can spare a moment or two~" Vaine allows, as if he wouldn't physically fight 'this fuss' to keep it from 'coming back' for her. He glides across the room with the air of a curious fox, sharp gaze trailing over everything of interest and occasionally pausing to prod at some recent addition since he's been gone. He does this to distract himself from the hiccup of covetous affection that the warmth of her carefree smile inspires. Kita isn't stuck under the mantle of 'queen' with him. She's just Kita. Who was mousy and quiet but still so vibrant and intelligent and so- Vainemuinn stops that train of thought so quickly he almost gives himself some form of whiplash.
He follows her into the cavernous but beautiful confines of her closet against his better judgment- evidently he needs another fortnight of meditation- but manages to make his answering hum sound suitably critical. "We'll see about that." There's a bit too much of a smile in his tone; Kita has struck at one of his core weaknesses.

The closet was spacious and rather over the top for someone as demure and soft-spoken as Kita. It held many dresses, skirts, corsets, tunics, and the like. Things that fell under the category of "accessories" were kept out in the bathroom in a separate bureau. Necklaces, earrings, belts, rings, bracelets, crowns, and other jeweled things. Out of the way and out of sight. If one noted Kita's preference for dress they would understand how those things were so easily kept neatly put away. She hardly ever wore those jewels and bright things, it felt like too much for her. Why flaunt a wealth she has not yet helped to grow? That was her reasoning. None of what she had in her possession was obtained by her own work yet. Perhaps in her older years Kita would take more to those lavish jewels and fineries. But, for now she preferred simple her crown and a simple necklace or ring.
The closet was organized rather neatly and in a very specific manner. One side of the closet was muted colors, soft and dream-like in manner. These were her normal wears. Pastel pinks, creamy whites, cornflower blues. Nothing that would immediately draw one's eye to her. The other side of the closet however was bright and dazzling. Colors that could only be made from imported ingredients and dyes. These were things Vain would take happily too. The newest items sat near the front of this side of the closet. For the most part her gifts had been new dresses in royal blues and deep purples, the colors of her family. However something different sat between the folds of ocean tones. A dazzling ruby slip of fabric peaked carefully between the sleeves.
Kita sighed gently, the smell of warm fabric and the way the closet settled always made her feel a deep sense of comfort. For that reason there was a cozy set of tea chairs near the end where the closet widened to reveal large mirrors. These mirrors were to ensure the queen felt her decision on attire was to her standard before leaving this space. The chairs were often occupied by her hand maids and more recently by Vain himself in the past years. Some, were they to find out about their secret activities, may have found this a bit scandalous. But, to Kita, it was normal. To have Vain sit and assess her dress and her clothing, assisting in choosing her daily outfits, and to be there as she changed from choice to choice. It had become simple and natural to her. Besides, Kita always wore undergarments that covered her modestly anyways.
"Well?" she turned towards Vain with a light tip of her head, her hair drifting off her shoulder and to the side as she did so, "See anything new that interests you?" Her fingers played lightly with the lace trimmed sleeve of a lavender dress to her side.
