I recently came back from a big break from the forums due to life things and kinda want to rp from one of my favorite series. About a year ago I started planning for this but it was never finished, so I'll be copy/pasting some things here from the old planning page throughout the day (I need to go find lunch first).
I don't mind making this alone but help is always very much welcome! I'm hoping to add enough info that even people who haven't read the series can join without being confused about everything (but we can always change something in the world if we need/want to and get a little creative).
People can make guards, maids, stable boys, cooks, maids, etc. of course - but what if there was two princes rather than just the one?
So, the crown prince is the one doing the Selection but he has a brother maybe a year younger than him that could be in the picture for more drama? A forbidden romance sort of thing since he won't be having a Selection unless his brother dies without an heir, and the girls are soley there for the crown prince. The older prince could be interested in the competition or he could completely hate the idea and have a romance with a maid or a guard even if you wanted - lgbtq+ is accepted here so you can do what you want with him!
I don't mind rping one of the princes but if I had to chose I'd want to be the younger one, so if you want to help out and claim the crown prince then by all means go for it. If you have the crown prince you can still have one of the Selected, but don't rp dates with yourself just vaguely say "yeah we went on a walk" or something (and obviously she won't win the competition just to keep it fair for the others).
Oh! Also I want this to take place before the books - so the castes system is still in effect.
I'll add in a list of things just to keep track of what we have an what we need in a bit, but for now I'm going to find lunch xD I just really wanted this up before I left so I could start figuring out what to keep from my old page!

About the RP Disclaimer: All of the information below is directly from the wikia page or my copy of The Selection by Kiera Cass, so all credit goes to the respectful owners. I gathered it all here only to help those who know little about the series, or for others to reference throughout the course of the rp. :3 Also this rp takes place before the books so all of the original characters and events that happened are nonexistent here! We can take this in whatever direction you want it to go.
The Kingdom of Illéa Illéa is a country made up of thirty-five different Provinces in which the people live. It was established by Gregory Illéa during the fourth world war. The capital and palace are located in Angeles; only those who live and work in the palace reside here. There are basic means of transportation such as cars, trains, and planes but they are very limited on technology. There are t.v.s, cameras, and some homes have landline phones, but the only computers can be found hidden deep within the palace. They are only used by the royal family to access ancient archives, but most technology was destroyed long ago during the war. Every person in Illéa is sorted into a Caste, a ranking system based on their wealth and class. There are eight castes total, One being the highest and Eight being the lowest. Royalty are Ones while people such as the palace maids, stable hands, and cooks are Sixes. Gregory Illéa founded the caste system when he founded the country, although not much is known on why or how it was truely built.
The Caste SystemNot much is known of how the caste system in Illéa started, although it was hinted that people's castes were based on the amount of money their family donated to the government during the first war. When a girl gets married, they will take the caste of their husband and leave their familis behind - unless she marries the Crown Prince. If she wins the Selection she and her family will become Ones when they are wed, along with all of their children after them. There are Eight Castes total, One being the highest and Eight being the lowest. It is rare for a girl to be a Six and make it into the Selection and last, Seven's are practically unheard of and Eights are never allowed in.• One : Royalty; a position of power and respect, the very top of the Caste system. Whoever wins the Selection become Ones along with their family when she marries the Crown Prince.
• Two : Celeberties including athletes, actors and actresses, models, politicians, all palace guards, and military leaders. There are a few Twos seen in the Selection but the Crown can't show too much favoritisim and only select a couple, more specifically those with enough connections to bennifit the kingdom's best interest.
• Three : Wealthy businessmen, inventors, teachers, philosophers, scientists, doctors, veterinarians, nurses, dentists, architechts, librarians, engineers, therapiss/psychologists, film directors, music producers, lawyers, and writers. Girls chosen for the Selection that were born in a Caste below Three automatically become Threes, those chosen who were born a Three or a Two stay in their caste. Most girls chosen for the Selection are Threes as they are one of the larger castes.
• Four : Jewelers, real estate agents, insurance brokers, head chefs, construction managers, property/business owners, factory workers, and farmers. It's common for Fours to be seen in the Selection but they don't always win.
• Five : Artists and performers including stage actors, classical musicians, singers, dancers, photographers, and circus performers. Fives can make it into the Selection, but not very many.
• Six : Workers including secretaries, waiters and waitresses, housekeepers, seamstresses and tailors, store clerks, cooks, drivers, and all palace servants. Very few Sixes make it into the Selection, but there is always at least one.
• Seven : Manual Laborers including gardeners, construction workers, farm hands, and trash collecors. Very few Sevens make it into the Selection if any at all.
• Eight : The "untouchables"; Mentally/physically unwell people, adicts, runaways, illegitimates, the homeless, and traitors to the crown. Eights are never seen in the Selection, most have no interest in the competition and despise the royal family.
The Selection and the Selected The Selection is a competition between 20 girls, the Selected, who compete to marry the prince and become the Princess of Illéa. All single females between the ages of 16 and 20 are sent an application to fill out and return to their Province Services Office, along with a photo. Participation isn't mandatory, so she doesn't have to fill it out if she dosn't want to. The government claims that the girls are picked randomly, but they automatically get their picture taken when they submit their application. Once the deadline for the forms has been met the King and his advisors choose those they believe are worthy to meet the Prince - those who have good enough connections to possibly bennifit the kingdom in the long run, a variety of girls from different castes including some of the lower castes to please the people (although rarely does a Six or lower ever get chosen), or the girls who they simply think are pretty enough. Once the girls are chosen and the necessary paperwork has been filled out, they are flown to the palace where they will recieve a mandatory stylng/makeover of sorts and be taken on a tour of their new home. Each girl will recieve two maids to assist them and they will have to attend mandatory ettiquete lessons throughout the duration of their stay. The Prince will take each girl on dates to get to know them, but if he doesn't feel a connection he may choose to send them home at any time. Eventually the group will be narrowed down to the Elite, the top six, and from that group his wife will be chosen. Once the competition reaches the Elite, the remaining girls will begin learning what it means to be Queen and all of the trials that come with the title. The Selected will eat all their meals with the Royal Family in the dining hall; the Royal Family sits at their own table at the north end of the room and each girl will have an assigned seat divided between two long banquet tables seating ten on either side of the room. During the day the girls are expected to spend their free time in the Women's Room when not in their classes, but they are allowed to explore the castle grounds so long as there is a guard nearby at all times. Each of the Selected has their own private chambers within the west wing of the palace furnished with simple necessities such as a bed and vanity table, but they are allowed to paint and decorate their rooms as they like to make it feel more at home. Their maids have their own rooms in another part of the castle, but they stay in their lady's chambers during the day and one will normally stay with her at night. There are a few guards that make rounds throughout the west wing for the girls' safety, their rotation changing every few days. The girls are expected to look their best at all time, but they give them the freedon of choosing to wear more simple day dresses or more elaborate evening gowns if they choose. Their maids design and create the dresses based on their likes and what they believe will make them stand out against the other girls. After all, if you aren't looking your best how will you ever catch the attention of a prince?
The Selection Rules • The Selected cannot leave the palace on her own accord She can only be dismissed by the prince himself, though sometimes there are exceptions.
• There is no time limit for the Selection — it can last from a few weeks to a few years if the prince needs that long to choose.
• The Selected cannot arrange her times with the prince she must wait for him to approach her. If they are in a large social setting this rule does not apply, the Selected may talk to whoever she likes.
• The Selected cannot fight or sabotage the other girls If the Selected are found laying their hands on another girl, stealing from her, or doing anything that might diminish her personal relationship with the prince, the prince will decide whether to dismiss her or not.
• The Selected can only have a romantic relationship with the prince If the Selected is caught in a relationship with someone else it is considered treason and punishable by death.
• The Selected must be courteous to photographers and allow them to see her lifestyle with the prince whether she wants to or not; the royal family are the only ones with the authority to send them away.
• For each week the Selected stays at the palace her family will be compensated.
• If the Selected has been eliminated and is no longer a part of the Selection, she will have an aide to help adjust to her new life (such as housing and employment) after leaving the palace. Most girls get married soon after leaving the palace, as they are now seen as the prized gems of Illéa in the public eye and are desired by many.
• If the Selected makes it to the top six she is considered as an Elite, and will be required to learn about particular inner workings of the life and obligations she would have as a princess. Until then, the Selected is not permitted to seek out such information.
• The Selected's caste number is automatically raised to a Three unless she was already a Three prior to being Selected, but her family's caste remains the same. If the Selected was a Two prior to the Selection, her and her family's status will remain the same.
• If the Selected wins she and her family will become Ones and members of the royal family. She will also marry the prince and become the crowned princess of Illéa, taking on all the rights and responsibilities of the title.

The RP Rules • Be kind and inclusive. Characters can be jerks, but out of character, be accepting of all members, whatever their gender, sexuality, political affiliation, etc. Discrimination of any sort is not tolerated at all. If you see anyone struggling or feeling left out, give them a hand!• No bad-spirited RPing. That is roleplaying with the intent to diminish another person's enjoyment of the game. This includes, but is not limited to: hijacking their current plot, powerplaying, force shipping, having your character be uncharacteristically mean to theirs, or just disregarding their wishes for their character in general. No perfect characters like Mary or Gary Sues, no one likes them. • Roleplay with a purpose. This is in place of your usual literacy rule. There's no minimum number of lines just try your best to keep the roleplay moving and give your partner something to respond to. Whether you achieve this with three paragraphs or three lines is up to you. All I ask is you use proper grammar and spelling while rping. • Minimal advertising, no spamming. Members are allowed and encouraged to share neat links (to roleplays, art, chat threads, whatever). There's a difference between sharing something once or twice and spamming it in every post though, so keep that in mind. • Try to be active. Just once or twice a week is fine. We all have lives outside of the forums, this roleplay shouldn't be your first priority.• Make realistic characters. Don’t give them anime colors or superpowers, don't make them the center of everything or having no flaws. Give them hopes and goals and dreams and shortcomings, put some thought into them and be creative!
How to Join • When joining keep in mind your character's caste. Sixes won't be adorned in tons of jewelry, and some of the families in lower castes (mainly Five and below) don't always have the best education growing up or rarely extra spending money.
• If they are a part of the Selection be sure to include their caste number and lets try to keep a variety in the numbers. Most will be Threes or Fours, but lets try to add in a few of the others too. I'll set a max number of Twos, Fives, and Sixes since those are the more rare numbers to be seen in the Selection, so just look back over the limit if you want one of them to make sure that caste is still available.• Please only have one girl in the Selection to save claims for other people. Yours and anoher RPer's character CAN be sisters however to add in extra drama, just make sure it is okay with each other first!• Since there will be an overwhelming amount of female characters in this rp, please make a male as well to try and add in some diversity! Whether this be a guard, a cook/kitchen aid, a servant/stablehand, a nobleman visiting the palace, it doesn't matter - just please try to have at least one!• If you have a maid and want them to serve a specific Selected, just double check with whoever RPs her first! Each girl can have two each and honestly, if you want a maid, I don't mind making more since I think rping them can be fun sometimes.• If you want a member of the royal family just ask! The King, Queen, and even the Tutor and Royal Advisor to the King won't really be seen quite as much around here unless someone wants to rp them, but if anyone wants to have one of them just ask first! Obviously if you choose to have royalty and a Selected your girl won't win the competition if we make it that far, so just keep that in mind.• The Selection Rules are meant to be broken, but the RP Rules are forever. I'm all for drama just don't get out of hand and take it out of character, okay?• LGBTQ+ Characters are welcome here! Discrimmination and hateful comments will not be tolerated so if you have an issue with this then please leave now. I will not tolerate any bullying of any kind.• Try to keep the minimum age 16. Selected girls need to be between 16-20, maids and other servants can be older if you'd like but I'd really prefer it if we didn't have a bunch of kids running around. If you want a little orphan/palace ward or something however - just ask!Name, first and last• Age • Gender • Province • • Caste • Rank/Job (selected, maid, etc) •Physical AppearancePersonalityHistory/BackgroundOther - anything you want to add such as hobbies, sexuality, random quirks, family etc. x • x • x ( ^ use these x's to add in character references/face claims if you'd like ^ ) rped by [ Screen Name ]

To the House of _____ ,
The recent census has confirmed that a woman between the ages of sixteen and twenty currently resides in your home. We would like to make you aware of an upcoming opportunity to honor the great nation of Illéa.
Our beloved prince, Sebastian Montgomery, is coming of age this month. As he ventures into this new part of his life, he hopes to move forward with a partner, to marry a true Daughter of Illéa. If your eligable daughter, sister, or charge is interested in possibly becoming the bride of Prince Sebastian Montgomery and the adored Princess of Illéa, please fill out the enclosed form and return it to your local Provincee Services Office. Twenty women from different provinces will be drawn out at random to meet the prince within the coming weeks. Participants will be housed at the lovely Illéa Palace in Angeles for the duration of their stay. The families of each participant will be generously compensated for their service to the royal family. We look forward to meeting our future princess.
Sincerely, Beatrice L. Quinton Beatrice L. Quinton, Palace Tutor
