do you think the three would've ever found out the truth about their parents if the ashfur incident hadn't happened?

It probably would have come out sooner or later, but it definitely wouldn't have been as dramatic.
I bet Leafpool would have been the one to slip up. I just feel like she would want them to know, eventually. Like just imagine being in her shoes, being around your children all the time but they don't even know they're yours, and watching them give all their affection to your sister. Probably wouldn't feel great. I can imagine it going down like, she and Jayfeather are having an argument and she just loses it and goes "I birthed you, and this is how you treat me?"

What @annab said. She probably was planning to tell them, when they were old enough and ready to know the truth. When I say old enough, remember, they were barely into adulthood when they found out. She probably wanted to wait a bit, and then tell them when they were ready to understand. And it wouldn't have been as dramatic, either. Makes me wonder how it would've gone down if she wasn't forced to reveal the secret, poor thing.

Yes, probably when they were warriors. However, it seemed the truth came out more chaotic and slightly sooner than expected. I think the three would be in shock, but maybe not as angry at squirrelflight. I think the main reason why they got so angry is because when squirrelflight said “kill them, you won’t hurt me that way..they are not my kits,” the three likely interpreted that as squirrelflight not caring what happened to them since they aren’t her biological children (which is far, far, from the truth).

I don't think so. Whenever someone says "it was never the right time" they actually mean "I was never going to tell you"

That would be kinda hillarious But considering all the arguments they've had over every conceivable thing... If one of them was on their death bed they might tell the three since it's like "might as well y'know" *slaps them with a bombshell*

I don't think so. Neither Leafpool nor Squirrelflight ever expressed the desire to tell the Three any kind of secret before the reveal, and it seemed like they had the perfect set up. I can imagine them going their whole lives without knowing.

if I was her I wouldn't have told the three, it just causes problems and it very obviously did. It damaged Leafpool and Squirrelflight's legacy's. However maybe we will learn more in Squirrelflights Hope.

If she wasn't even willing to tell her mate at this point, I have to doubt that she ever planning on telling her children.
Leafpool eventually slipping up does sound in character though.
