Kestrelstar nodded, “Yes. And look out for that coyote Adderstrike and his patrol spotted yesterday. We don’t want a vile creature like that anywhere near Canyonclan.” The leader had always carried extra hatred for coyotes, since they had killed his father and brother. They were dangerous predators that were three times as big as the clan cats, and could easily take down any cat who was off guard. Plus, with Dawnfire’s kits on the way, he didn’t want to take any chances. Spotting Emberwind trotting towards them, Kestrelstar dipped his head in greeting. “Yes, I was just saying Amberblossom is going to lead a patrol down the canyon, and that you and that apprentice of yours are to join.”

Spotting his apprentice, Honeypaw, Adderstrike emerged from where he had been sitting, hidden by the shadows in the cave. “Honeypaw,” he said, voice firm as he greeted the small cat. “Follow me,” he instructed, passing her as he strode towards Slatehorn, who was currently speaking with his own apprentice. “Mind if we join you for practice today?” The older Tom asked, though there wasn’t much of a question in his commanding voice.

Fallowflame had just returned from hunting in the canyon gulley, with a small rabbit dangling from her jaws, when she spotted Eaglepounce, one of the senior warriors, napping just outside the clan entrance. Dropping her catch about a tail length away from him, Fallowflame took a seat, “Enjoying yourself, are you?” She asked, her tone dripping with sarcasm as she studied the sleeping Tom.

The promise of the kits’ soon arrival made Jaggedaroem’s heart begin to beat faster with excitement. “Have you thought any more about names?” He asked, moving so he was now lying down next to Dawnfire, as opposed to sitting, before beginning to gently groom his mate. Once she was done eating, he was already planning on going on a quest to find more moss for her nest. It was starting to look sparse.

Spider paw nodded in excitement, and dropped into a prowl, attempting to show his mentor that he had been working on his stance in his free time. But then, one of his long legs accidentally tripped the other, and Spiderpaw ended up on the ground, as usual. Right as Adderstrike and Honeypaw walked up. Spotting the small apprentice, Spiderpaw greeted her warmly as he shook the dust from his fur. “Hey Honeypaw!”

Featherpaw emerged from the apprentice’s den, yawning as she looked around. It appeared she was one of the last ones to have woken up. Which meant Emberwind probably wouldn’t be happy wit her. Speaking of her mentor, Featherpaw saw him speaking to both Kestrelstar and Amberblossom, which meant he was probably putting them on a patrol. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, Featherpaw quietly padded up to stand behind her mentor, and listened to the older cats talk.

Spider paw shrugged, “Oh you know. Just checking to make sure there’s no ants invading the clan,” he said, his voice even, though the humor shone in his eyes. “You can never be too careful,” he added with a smirk. “Are you ready to practice our prowling? I’ve been working on it, and I know Slatethorn can’t wait to see me show off my skills,” the black and white Tom bragged with a laugh.

Fallowflame snorted when she heard the older warrior’s excuse, “Well, I must say, you pull the ruse off remarkably well.” Nudging the rabbit towards him, Fallowflame spoke once more. “Come on, Eaglepounce, I can tell you’re exhauated, and I’m sure you’re hungry. Share with me?” She offered, curling her long, auburn tail around her feet.

Slatethorn nodded to Adderstrike and Featherpaw as they approached him and Spiderpaw asking to join them for practice. "Sure, the more the merrier right?" He huffed looking over at Spiderpaw as he tripped and Honeypaw as she laughed at him. "It'll do them some good and gain extra experience on different prowling skills." Having the other two come along with them might even help Spiderpaw focus more as him and Honeypaw were already debating who was better of the two at prowling.

Dawnfire didn't want to eat all of the vole for herself, only taking a couple of bites and leaving enough for her mate as well. "I haven't thought about it," she admitted, "I want to talk about it with you." Naming was important and she didn't want to think of names without the help of Jaggedstorm. "And depends on what our kits look like," she did have to add, "They might give us inspiration when they are born." Which she hoped was soon, she didn't want to wait a day more to see her kits.
Emberwind would have much rather gone on a hunting patrol than just a regular patrol, but he wasn't going to complain, just dipping his head slightly in agreement. He didn't want to go against what Kestrelstar was telling him to do, either. Though he was also instructed to take Featherpaw, Emberwind just about to open his mouth to comment 'if he could find her' but before he could get the chance, the apprentice in question padded up next to him. "Oh," he meowed, blinking down at her, "There you are."

Realizing the she-cat might have taken his joking brag seriously, Spiderpw assured her, “Nah, I’m sure yours is great. Meanwhile I can’t seem to even sneak up on myself,” he said with a chuckle, before glancing at their mentors. “Well? Can we go?” The young apprentice was eager to get going. He enjoyed practice, especially when other apprentices joined them.

Addersrrike watched the two apprentices banter back and forth, amused. Once they were finished, and Spiderpaw had requested they get going, Addersreike glanced at Slatethorn, “We’ve been ready. We were waiting on you to finish your ramblings,” he said, lightly scolding the young Tom, who never seemed to stop talking. “Let’s go then,” the senior warrior stated, turning his back to lead the way down the tunnel to where they had designated a cave for practicing.

Once Dawnfire had eaten her share of the vole, Jaggedstorm quickly ate the rest of it, relishing in the delicious prey that satisfied the hunger of his belly. "Yes, I suppose so. Although let's hope they get all of your good looks, and none of mine," he teased. "Do you think I should have Leopardfall come check on you?" he added, his voice more serious now. The medicine cat was probably tired of Jaggedstorm's constant questions and visits, but he didn't care. Besides, there weren't any injured or sick cats in the clan at the moment, so, as far as he knew, the medicine cat wasn't exactly busy.

Honeypaw laughed, "I think that is a good thing, if you could sneak up on yourself you aren't paying any attention." She said, before looking up at the older cats as they spoke. She looked excited as her mentor began leading the group of four to the cave for training. Quickly she trotted after him, stay a step or two behind, just because of her shorter legs. She couldn't help but move with a little bounce, she was excited to work with another apprentice, espeically Spiderpaw, he was clumsy but a good apprentice regardless, plus he was old and that meant he knew more than she did and she'd be learning.

Fear began to take hold inside of Featherpaw as she heard Kestrelstar warn the others of coyotes. Hearing Amberblossom say that they should move out, Featherpaw stuck close to her mentor's side, giving him a small smile as he looked down at her. Emberwind may have a sharp tongue, but she knew he would protect her. As they followed the deputy out of the cave, Featherpaw asked her mentor softly, "Do you think we will run into the coyote?"

>> It's half 2 in the morning now, I really got to go to bed. I should be around tomorrow! <<
"Oh hush," Dawnfire meowed softly, settling down next to Jaggedstorm, pressing her side into his as she reached over and licked his cheek, "I would be proud if they looked like you. You don't give yourself enough credit." Though she sighed sighed when he started worrying, asking if he should go and bother Leopardfall. "I am quite alright," she tried to reassure him, "You don't need to go and bother him, he probably has his own things he needs to do."
Emberwind didn't say anything, just dipping his head as Amberblossom told them that they should head out. The ginger tabby simply complied with the request, starting to pad after the deputy, though he did glance down at Featherpaw at the question. "Perhaps," he just meowed simply, not wanting to bet on whether they would actually bump into a coyote or not, "But if we do, then well just have to chase it off." He wasn't worried about it, quite confident that with the company currently leaving camp they could deal with a coyote. "But don't worry," he did have to add, glancing back down at the apprentice trotting next to him, "We will be fine."

(No worries. Sleep well, and see you tomorrow.)
"Well that's a mousebrained thing to do," Fallowflame replied. "No wonder your practically passed out. If I hadn't come sooner, you might have wasted away altogether," The auburn she-cat teased, before taking a couple of bites of the rabbit as well. "Do you need me to relieve you from your, uh, 'guard' duty so you can go get some rest?" Fallowflame added, not exactly ready to return to camp just yet.

Once they had arrived at the training grounds--a dimly lit cave littered with rocks and debris for the cats to practice hiding, hunting, and fighting amongst--Adderstrike leaped onto a decently sized boulder, and laid down, letting his tail hang off the edge as he looked down at the others, bored. "Alright then. Why don't you two try and sneak up on Slatethorn or I. If you can be quiet enough to surprise one of us, then I'll know we're getting somewhere."

Hearing his mate's compliment, Jaggedstorm purred, and pressed his nose against hers. Hearing that she didn't think he should go get Leopardfall, the tom sighed. "Well, will you at least let me go get more moss for your nest? I want you to be comfortable." He insisted, wanting to help but unsure how exactly to be most helpful.

"Right. Of course," Featherpaw responded, though not quite confident in that fact herself. As they left the cave and took the path to the right, the small apprentice moved to the back of the line, as the cats had to walk single file in order to fit on the steep, narrow path. Luckily, this was something Featherpaw could do in her sleep. Coyotes scared her, but heights? Not so much. It was a long and winding path to get down to the gulley floor, but once they were there, Featherpaw returned to her mentor's side, thankful that she was in between the big tom, as well as Nightbreeze, as it made her feel more safe in the exposed canyon.

Nightbreeze padded after Amberblossom as she lead the patrol out the cave tasting the air for any unfamiliar scents and checked their surroundings. She listened to Emberwind as he reassured Featherpaw they would be fine if the run into a coyote, she didn't want to think the worst and hoped the tom was right, the quicker they checked for no signs of coyote the quicker they could return to the safely of the camp.
Slatethorn followed after Adderstrike as he lead the group to the cave used for training amused by the apprentice enthusiasm to train and learn. Hopefully Spiderpaw would do well as he closer to becoming a warrior if he proved himself then one day he could have his assessment and Slatethorn wanted to make sure the young tom was ready.

After studying the two older toms as they settled down, Spiderpaw dropped into a crouch and slipped into the shadows, thankful that his mostly black pelt allowed him to camouflage well with the darkness of the cave. Deciding he would attack his mentor first, Spiderpaw followed the edge of the cave, until he was only a few taillengths away from Slatethorn. Pausing a moment, in order to hopefully give the warrior time to relax, Spiderpaw studied the tom, whose profile he could make out in the dim light. Though his mentor wasn't looking directly at him, the tom didn't have his back to him, thus potentially making it hard for him to sneak up on Slatethorn. But, he had to do it sooner or later. So he gathered his legs under his body, and prepared to spring. Keeping his claws sheathed, Spiderpaw lept out of the darkness, paws extended as he prepared to tackle Slatethorn. But, the leggy apprentice had misjudged the distance of the leap, and greatly overshot, sending himself rolling through the dust with an "oof".
