Taiyou and Redfleck like this

The winter is always harsh here.
The forest and the river are unforgiving. There is little prey, most of it going to ground with the first snows, except for occasional excursions for foraging. The tree branches are heavy with snow, some of which can easily crush or suffocate a cat if too much falls at once. Boulders and snow also falls from the hillsides. Trees are often blown over by the blizzard winds, and heavy snowstorms make it easy for cats to lose their way and freeze to death.
Still, cats are determined to survive here despite the dangers. Many have made this forest and the surrounding areas their home, whether permanently or just to shelter until spring. Even beyond the weather, however, dangers lurk. Cats, and even bigger creatures, fight constantly for food and shelter. Some cats band together for survival, but larger numbers means more attention from predators, and more mouths to feed.
It is here you find yourself, stuck in this forest at least until the snow melts. Will you survive until spring, in the winter forest?

Roleplay Rules
βοΈ The rules of this roleplay are pretty simple and straightforward, and mostly common sense. Obviously, all forum rules apply. Keep the vulgarity, gore, and all that stuff at a reasonable level (like half of us are adults here, or close to it, so I'm not gonna say don't be vulgar/gory at all, ever. But like, keep it reasonable). Don't troll, don't kit-steal, try to get along with everyone (at face value at least), don't use/control other peoples' characters unless they specifically give you permission, don't steal, etc. etc.
βοΈ As for characters, keep them realistic, in appearance, personality, experiences, and all that. That goes without saying. Please try to adhere to the appearance standards of the Clan you're joining- though they don't have to fit all the stereotypes, there are some things that are required, unless your cat has outside blood, which should be limited to a few characters at most. As for personalities, give them a balance of good and bad traits. Though you don't really see a whole lot of Mary-Sues anymore, what I do see a lot of are extremely emo characters who have had only bad things happen to them, are always outcasts, are always depressed, etc. etc. Don't make your character perfect, but also don't make them over-the-top gloomy and imperfect. It's annoying, and no one is gonna want to do anything with that character. Of course, some characters will have bad things happen to them, sometimes a lot of bad things. Some of them will be sad/depressed. Some will be outcasts to some degree. The key is that some will have some of these things happen. Not many will have all of these things happen. Keep it realistic, guys.
βοΈ Literacy is also a very important aspect of this roleplay. This is not an advanced/literate roleplay, but I do expect everyone to be at least high-end semi-literate. That is, I expect pretty good grammar (it has to be easily legible at least; occasional mistakes are fine; however, I don't want major misspellings every sentence or with terrible punctuation all the way through, just as an example). You should be able to consistently be able to write a decent-sized paragraph (like, 3-5 sentences or so), with a little more or less here and there depending on the situation. And finally, you should be able to actually carry a plot and contribute to the story instead of just floating around trying to bait other people into interaction. On the flip side, though, please don't write a novel unless it's necessary; if your posts are consistently too long, people aren't going to be interested in reading them thoroughly. Similarly, though advanced words can enhance writing, if your average reader would need to go to a dictionary for every other word, you should probably tone it down a bit.
βοΈ Next, activity. I'm not gonna make a strict "be on this often or I'll kick you" rule because that's silly; overall activity comes and goes. Some days or weeks will be more active than others. I just expect you to be on enough to stay involved and your characters to stay relevant. When people start to forget your character exists, or when the roleplay as a whole starts to lag, is when I'm gonna start putting out warnings. Besides that, though we don't have any ranks and therefore no important ranks, if your character becomes heavily involved in a plot or storyline, I would expect you to be on frequently enough to contribute to that story. If not, you may lose your place as a primary character in that story.
βοΈ And finally, chatting. Obviously, I expect you to separate our out of character talk from your in-character talk using brackets, parentheses, or some kind of similar symbol. I expect you to play nice with one another. And though I do hope that you will become friends over the course of this roleplay, I would like it if you would keep chatting on this page to a minimum. For long, continuing, and drawn-out conversations, please take it to PM or another thread. I've seen way too many good roleplays killed off by pages and pages of chatter with no roleplay- don't let that happen. I don't want to see more than 3 or maybe 4 consecutive posts with no roleplaying on them.

Territory
This forest is not particularly noteworthy, all things considered. It consists of rolling, rocky mountain foothills, with small cliffs and ravines, frozen streams, and boulders. The territory is cut by a small river which remains unfrozen except at the edges. It flows from high ground, sometimes slow-moving and shallow, other times tumbling down steep, rocky cliffs in rapids or even waterfalls. In most places it is a relatively simple matter to get across the river, by using rocks or logs as stepping stones, though a single slip into the freezing water means almost certain death from hypothermia.
The trees are a mix of conifers and bare-branched deciduous trees, with pines mostly inhabiting the meadows and flatter lands, and the deciduous trees lining the hills and ravines. There are a few meadows between the trees, places where the hills level out somewhat for a time, replaced with smooth tracts of snow dotted with boulders and small, twisted trees. At the base of the foothills is a large, sprawling twolegplace, which the river runs into, becoming wider and slower as it makes its way into the twolegplace.

Dens
βοΈ Crow's den is a burrow under the roots of an oak tree so large its branches dip to touch the ground. The space around the base of the tree is mostly clear of foliage, and in the warmer seasons covered in sparse grass. Now, the ground is frosty and covered in a thin layer of snow, ice, and mud. The foliage in the forest beyond the reach of the tree is fairly dense, somewhat hiding the location. The burrow itself is mid-sized, large enough for three or four cats to sleep in with relative ease. Roots form pillars in the middle of the burrow and arches in the walls, and the soil is pressed with pebbles and branches to help insulate it and keep the soil in its place. The floor of the den is covered in leaves, dried grasses, and feathers. Crow and Starling claimed the entire clearing as well as several tree-lengths into the forest as their territory, but hunt in a range far beyond that.
