So, I've been working on a warriors' fanfic for the past... (mental math) nine years. I posted the original draft of the first few chapters back on the original forums, and since then I've written quite a lot for it. I wasn't sure I'd ever rejoin the new forums, so I planned out a prequel to it for fun a couple years back, and I wrote the prologue back in December. Now that I've been back for a bit, I'd really like to share my fanfic, but the more I look at my prequel, the more I realize how it naturally introduces a lot of key characters and important plotlines.
So yeah, I'm not sure which is the better idea-- posting the fully thought-out fanfic that I've poured a lot into and I could update regularly, or starting with the prequel for better overall story continuity but sporadic updates. I'd greatly appreciate thoughts/ advice!

It depends, really.
The fully thought out gives you more room and you’d have consistent updates. Which is easier if you don’t have a lot on your plate irl.
While the other idea with more sporadic updates has its merits but doesn’t require your full attention, which is nice.

Those are both good points! The time aspect of it does make me lean more towards the prequel. I guess I'm just a bit nervous about posting something I haven't spent as much time with. But maybe that's okay for a first fanfic? I could test the waters with this one and move on to my fully thought-out story when I have more experience.

I think you've answered your own question right there. It's what I've done before as well. I started with the not-completely thought out prequel so I could get better for the main story. For me, at least, it worked really well. I look forward to seeing what you do!

Thanks! I really appreciate the advice. It helped a lot to talk it out, and I'm excited to get started before too long.
