Hello everyone! My apologizes for if this is too vague, but that just means that there's more room for creative freedom and growth c: Please read everything if you can, there's no penalty for if you don't I'd just appreciate it.
On the day we are born, another star disappears from the sky. You won't ever notice the missing star, but the universe feels its loss so heavily that we are blessed by the universe with abilities. Unfortunately, the Universe did not account for the fear those who did not come from stars would have. They don't understand us, where we come from and why we get these abilities. All they know is that a completely ordinary family could have one completely normal child and then, out of nowhere, that completely normal child has a star somewhere on their body and is then suddenly a threat. We do not know of any other life: as soon as the star is noticed, we are torn from our families and taken where they can watch us, raise us, perform experiments and tests on us, and steal away any chance of a real life. Luckily for some of us, when we were found out, a man appeared at our door, claiming to be of the government, and instead of turning us over, he took us in and gave us new identities, showed us how to use our abilities, and helped us pretend to be normal. He gave us a second chance. Living life in hiding is not something we would ever wish on anyone, but for us born of the stars, it is our only hope of keeping away from a life in a cold, bright, life-threatening facility.
Star Children, as they've been coined, have been around for about a hundred years or so, maybe more. They've lived in harmony with those who are "normal" around them. They became a problem in 2017 after a massive attack by someone who felt threatened by them and thus Star Children became a threat to the people of the world. Our country was the first country to take action, immediately they set a declaration to arrest and apprehend every child, adult, and elder known to be a Star Child. Originally, they released those who were determined to not be a threat (i.e. their abilities were weak or they were old) and everyone else just disappeared. In 2022, another declaration stating that all Star Children were a threat and there was a national scare. No Star Child was left behind. So, in 2023 there began to be reports of Star Children going missing - and I don't mean they were being taken to facilities to be processed. The government was losing track of, at first, ten at a time until the number tripled and then that number tripled. To avoid another national scare, the government covered up the disappearances. There's not much else to report, yet: it's been twenty years since we began disappearing. Thousands of us are captured every day and we can only save so many of them, there are only so many new identities we can craft each year. Many of our rescues elect to remain in the facility instead of being put back into the world. The one man turned into a huge network of Star Children helping Star Children, but we're not done yet. Especially since we have a new threat: The government is starting to catch on, our best recruits are being captured and our rescue numbers are going down. While our network is huge, our resources are still unable to match the governments and we are at huge risk of being completely taken down.
MAYBE: While there is a HQ for our characters, most of the plot is going to be centered around them rescuing/recruiting other Star Children and also fighting off the bad guys.

I'm sure you're all civil and all know how to role play, but here are some basics just in case:
1. There's no "minimum" length for your posts, but I do expect y'all to try to match the length's of those around you. If I'm typing up 5+ paragraph's and you're giving me one liners it gets annoying.
2. No perfect characters or unrealistic characters; of course, your characters have supernatural abilities and we live in a time where body mods are a thing, but just try to be realistic.
3. Forum rules are a thing
4. Be civil. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all and keep drama off my thread, please. I'm not too worried about this, but I don't want to leave it unsaid and then have problems later.
Don't take my laziness in the creation of this role play as a reason not to join, I promise my roleplaying is better. We'd love to have you role play with us!
want to join our ranks? simple! just give us some basic information and a short description, maybe some photos or gifs of your characters, whatever you feel comfortable, just make it so I can add it to this post.
- - { Mona Esmer : x x x twenty-seven | she/her | control over energy (electric) what you see is what you get, but only after a massive wall is in front of them. The hardworking, focused type, she is a fighter every step of the way, she has a vibe about her that makes her seem as though she might start bouncing off the walls, but she speaks with such conviction she might as well be in charge of the whole operation. She's been through a lot, even before her abilities were discovered, but she doesn't often talk about it, she puts on the mask of a good, loyal soldier. She's pretending to be okay, when in reality she's never had a home, the only family she's ever had isn't allowed to exist outside confinement (the star children), and her abilities come from inside her instead from outside sources, like outlets. This means, that her powers drain her energy, so without energy she can't use them. Her star mark is located on the inside of her wrist, so when she's out where normal people can see her she's usually wearing long sleeves. } - - beau
- - { Shelby Gray : x x x twenty-eight | they/them | impossible strength Don't underestimate the size of this person for their might. They're as dangerous as they come. They have the appearance of a young girl, innocent and pure looking. However, their sharp tongue spares no one and their disinterest in the feelings of others is quite concerning. It's hard to tell if they like you and when they do, they're not much nicer to you than before. They're a cute blonde person, with big blue eyes that mock the innocence of a young child, but everything about them is mean to put you off the truth: this little person is as dangerous as they come, don't be fooled. Their star mark is located on her chest, over her heart. } - - beau
- - { Jensen Thomas : x x x twenty-nine | he/him | control over emotions self-disciplined, man-of-few-words, quiet; just a few things to describe Jensen Thomas. He's a large, muscular guy, who looks like a tough guy, someone who could probably put you through a wall. Maybe he can, but Jensen isn't about that life. This quiet man is a gentle soul, he looks tougher than he is. There's not much to say about him, he's a man of few words but many actions. He's a father figure, he's a protector and a caretaker. His ability is limited to touch - he has to be touching the person who's emotions he wants to alter and once he's no longer touching the person, however they were feeling returns within a few moments. Not the most exciting ability, but he doesn't mind. His Star is at the base of his neck, just under the collar of his shirt, more along his spine. } - - beau

{ Mona - - approximately 7:34 a.m. Black spotted her vision as she shot up from the ground. Adrenaline coursed through her as she lurched forward, her head falling between her knees. Inhaling deeply, she steadied her breathing and blinked the sleep from her eyes. Mona wiped sweat from her brow as she raised her head to look around, her dream - more like nightmare - fading from her mind as she remembered where she was. Her heart rate was still up as she looked around, the nightmare had been like a vision of the past and a reminder of the danger she was in, as well as the danger the people she was responsible for were in. She hadn't been the only one sleeping, there were five other bodies asleep on the ground. One more person made six, but they were awake and pacing as they were the person left in charge of the final watch shift. Light filtered through the leaves of the tree with low hanging branches that they hid beneath. It was a lucky find, this hiding spot, for they party had almost given up on searching for a safe location to rest.
Mona stretched her arms behind her back, and she let out a sigh of relief as she felt her shoulder pop. She pushed herself to her feet before wiping her hands clean of dirt onto her jeans. Yawning, she stretched again before giving a good look around. She was familiar with most of the members of her group, they had all gone through basic introductions before leaving, but Mona didn't really know a good number of them. She was familiar with Shelby and she really wasn't a fan of them as they made her uncomfortable, her disinterest in the feelings of others was a bit disconcerting. It was rather rare for Mona to lead missions, despite her being a mission veteran and a long time member of the technically unnamed Star Child Rescue Company (it's unofficial name), but usually Mona turned down offers to lead, she believed it showed favoritism, since she was one of the longest standing members, she had been here since she was nine years old and the whole thing had only been around for twenty years. Sure, there were others like her who had been around for a while as well, some longer than her, but for the most part, the discovery of abilities was generally when Star Children were older, like say fourteen, fifteen, sixteen (around the age of puberty), but again she wasn't the only one and it wasn't so uncommon that it was rare; additionally, usually rescues were relocated and given new identities within six months to a year of being rescued, so no one stuck along for long. Mona just had no interest in finding a new life, she was perfectly happy giving her life to saving other's like her.
This group of Star Children were just a smaller part of a bigger picture, but they were all from the main head quarters. Their lives were shaped by the constant need to keep moving, to sleep with one eye open. One day could be the difference between tomorrow and never again, there was minimal room for error. It wasn't uncommon for people like them not to trust each other or to not like to sit around head quarters for too long. Their one safe place hadn't been discovered yet, it's been the same place for the past fifteen years, but they had all heard reports of other safe houses being taken down, of other groups of rescued Star Children being captured and depending on who each one of them were, how old they were, and what their abilities were, they were either killed or shipped away to some containment facility where they would spend the rest of their days being poked and prodded. Those on the outside didn't know much about the government facilities and it was a constant fear wondering if worse things than poking and prodding happened. Mona worried for each and every Star Child, but right now her biggest priority were the other six members of group.
Mona scooped up her bag, slinging on strap over her shoulder so she could go through it with the other. In quick succession, she pulled out a comb and pulled the knots from her hair, she popped in a breath mint, and she double checked that she had everything. An unsettling amount of cash filled most of her bag and it was a constant concern of Mona's that she would lose the bag and the group would be screwed. They were about two hours away from the town where their next mission was and they would be staying in a motel recommended by the research team back at head quarters. It was supposedly on the low, a cash based business, and a good place to lay low as they attempted the escape and rescue of the youth who's abilities and birthmark had been discovered.
"Alright team, hurry up and wipe that sleep from your eyes. It's time to get moving." Her tone was authoritative, at a level loud enough for everyone under the tree to hear and hopefully quiet enough not to draw attention of anything of concern. They were deep enough in the woods still that there wasn't too much worry, but you can never be too sure. She cracked her knuckles and let out a sign, looking around at the group as they moved around and collected her things, "We've got about two hours to town if we leave within the next ten minutes so pick up the pace."
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
alrighty, there's Mona's starter. Hopefully it's enough to get the ball rolling. So far, there are only seven members of the mission, so five remaining spots for that, but you can also be someone at HQ or someone in town [i.e. at the motel or at the place where the star child we're looking for is being held] and anyone can volunteer to be the most recent rescue, just as long as you're aware that this character should be about 15-16 years old so they're abilities are hard to control and relatively weak atm so just be aware of that. most characters should be 20+ years old, the only reason there's an exception for new recruits/rescues is that Star Child 9/10 don't develop their abilities or show their Star symbol under around 14-16 years old [with uncommon, but not rare, cases of them being ages 8-13 or 16+

You think by now, that I would've learned not to play with fire if I don't want to get burned.
