Ember’s One Shots:(Not in any particular order) In the Hollowed Out Tree:(Created: 2018) Thornberry waited silently, stood by the ditch which divided both the BranchClan and TreeClan border. He sat half-buried underneath a pile of leaves, so where the grey tabby could only be spotted by a TreeClan patrol, but he knew that they didn’t come around this time of day. He sighed, about to turn around and go back to his Clan, until a screech rang in his ears. Without hesitating, the tom leapt across the borders which separated the two Clans, racing into the forest. This territory was unfamiliar to him, hence why he had a hard time tracking, and walking, since his territory grounds were moist, layered in damp pine needles, where as this was dusty, with pebbles jabbing his paws every time he set foot on the terrain. “Patchfeather?” He called out, his voice shaky as he was scared of being caught in the middle of TreeClan territory. Another wail came, soon after the first. Thornberry rushed to the source of the noise, relying on his ears to guide the way to where he needed to go, as he sunk deeper into the territory. “Thornberry? I’m here.” A weak voice trembled from inside a tree, the grey tabby approaching it curiously to find that his mate, Patchfeather, was sitting there, her tail curled round a small black and white she kit as her eyes glazed over with pain. “Don’t worry.” Thornberry ducked his head, crawling into the tree trunk, giving the kit a small nudge and moving it closer into Patchfeather’s side. “We need to be quiet. Patrol approaching.” Patchfeather whispered, trying to muffle the sound of the kits whimpers and push Thornberry to the back of the hollow. “I smell BranchClan.” A voice sounded as Patchfeather and Thornberry watched fearfully through the hole. It was a patrol of five, including brother and sister Dustpaw and Thistlepaw, their mentors, Thistlepad and Blueflight, and Oaktail, who was scenting the air, his eyes narrowed with suspicion. “Oh no.” Patchfeather hissed, mentally slapping herself for speaking aloud so close to the patrol of cats. “Not as bad as running into a patrol of cats in my Clan.” Thornberry muttered, wincing as he remembered the time Tansycloud had seriously wounded a young apprentice who was completing her assessment. “And that was Sedgepaw.” Patchfeather whipped round, looking at him firmly. “Oaktail’s sister.” “So that’s why that cats so cranky with everyone nowadays.” Thornberry nodded, watching as Patchfeather let out another pained squeak. “Nothing here.” Thistlepaw announced, coming out the bushes, then seeing two pairs of eyes in a hollow tree. Quietly and quickly, she pattered over to the tree trunk, hesitantly taking a few steps to see what was in the hollowed our tree. “Hello?” Thistlepaw spoke into the tree trunk, her small voice barely a whisper. “Why are you speaking to trees now, you mousebrain?!” Dustpaw clattered over, receiving an angry glare of Thistlepaw, who swished her tail and continued alongside Blueflight as they patrolled the territory further. “Thank StarClan.” Patchfeather turned and let out another grunt, as Thornberry leant down and grabbed the second born kits scruff. This kit was a mix between both, he had a white base coat, like his mother, and grey and black patches, and also a black tail tip and paws. “You’ll be fine, just one more kit.” Thornberry reassured Patchfeather, hoping that it would be the last kit. He didn’t think both would cope if they had a litter of five to split between them, it would seem much too suspicious. “It’s a little she kit.” Thornberry tilted his head, looking at the delicate little kit. She was almost a replica to him, but only boasted Patchfeather’s fluffy tail, instead of his thin mouse like one. “What do we do now?” Thornberry looked at Patchfeather. Immediately, he felt the urge that he wanted to take the second and lastborn kit into his Clan, Patchfeather with the first. “You’ll take them two kits, and I’ll take this one. For now, we wait, in the hollowed out tree.”
