I might add to this later... I also have no idea why it wanted to be written in second person, either...
You stand vaguely confused at your current surrounding area. Lush grass rests beneath your paws, almost uncomfortably soft against your pads.
The grass shimmers lightly as you begin to move, with each paw-step, kicks up a small flurry of golden lights that rub against your legs.
This odd expanse of land seems to stretch on forever, nothing but this rich grass as far as your eyes can see.
A light breeze rustles the flurries of light, a loud sneeze erupts as a few flies close to your face, before sliding gently past ruffles of fur.
After some time, progress becomes apparent, judging by the light gurgles of a nearby stream.
Some success!
Yet it also feels as if no progress was made at all…
The stream comes further into view as you move towards the sound, meeting a space of sparkling blue water.
Instead of drinking from the stream, the body of water also offers a delightful view of the sky.
The sky itself, is even more peculiar than the grass, being a simple dark blue in color with swirls of different colors within the sky.
The swirls of pink, golden, and silver are perhaps, the prettiest and favor the night(?) sky well.
A purr rumbles loudly, shock appears on the stream’s reflection, as understanding slams down like a blow to the head: this is not your purring.
While you are purring yourself, it is more subdued, compared to whoever this louder figure is.
A quick glance to the right, several tail-lengths away, reveals the source of the other sound of content, a feline figure lays in the distance.
The urge to either have answers or merely to have someone else to speak with propels your paws forward in a swift gait.
The dark gray fur of the tabby figure becomes noticeable as you get closer, what also becomes apparent is the cat is lying on their side, half of their face blocked by the soft grass of the bank.
Before you can get close enough to make out any other details, the cat rolls over, afterwards proceeding to tuck their paws underneath their form.
You finally reach them and open your mouth in greeting, instead of words, a near retching sound escapes your mouth.
This… creature can’t possibly be a cat…
A pale blue eye blinks in greeting, with the other eye appears horribly mutilated, almost like a horizontal slit, bits of sinew and flesh are the only thing that resides in this hole.
Then the creature turns its head…
You resist the urge to throw up.
A second face greets you, albeit, it appears to not be… present.
The eyes of the second face are closed, the features more relaxed in sleep, the mutilated eye of the waking face attempts to bleed over into one of the hopefully, normal eye of the second face.
“It’s rude to not say hello.” The first face, the one with the pale blue eye, spoke.
Surprisingly, its mouth moved normally, unhindered.
The voice was also normal, not garbled or hindered at all.
“Uh, hi?”
“You seem troubled.”
“I-uh, is the other one okay?”
The second face’s tongue currently lolled out of its mouth, drool was beginning to form at the tip of its tongue.
You pretended to ignore how the pupil of first face’s actual eye moved to the very edge of the peripheral to get a glance at what you were speaking of.
It was a normal movement but for whatever reason, it made your stomach turn.
“I’m fine. A bit sleepy, perhaps if I was fully asleep, I would be fully awake now…”
“I’m…? But there are two…?” You tilted your head in confusion, you were very lost…
There were two faces, that meant two cats?
“I’m still the same cat. Just like you’re one cat, I’m one cat. Just because I’m speaking to you and sleeping at the same time, does not mean I’m two different cats. I’m one cat, doing two different tasks.”
Your head ached as the first face purred in response, apparently happy with the explanation…
It made sense to it, at least…
“Uh… What’s your name?”
The first face held a thoughtful look, while the second continued to sleep, a small puddle of drool began to form on the grass in said slumber.
“I go by many names, I have a, hmmm…”
There was a moment of silence till the working eye of the first face brightened.
“You may call me Janus.”
The second face twitched in response as the name left the mouth of the first face.
You nod your head in response before testing the name on your own tongue.
"Janus,"
It was a strange name, indeed, fitting for a two-faced cat.
